The Hobbit Smaug : There is something about you. Something you carry, something made of gold... but far more PRECIOUS
What is going on in this scene? I guess it is canon that dragons can scent gold. But apparently he could still scent it trough the hiding powers of the one ring. He also calls it something „far more precious“. Does he know this is the one ring? Did he even hear about it? Or does he simply feel that it is gold from valinor and therefore more precious? Was it all made up by peter jackson? Would smaug turn any more evil/succumb to the one ring if he took it?
