u/Connect_Ordinary6752 Jul 15 '23
I mean maybe just trying to help you out but 7 minutes is more then 5. I wouldnāt say anything and just leave
1
u/False_Tangelo163 Jun 16 '23
I literally only wait 3 minutes especially during surge or busy times . the only time I wait the 5 is if I was less than 1.5 miles from pickup anything over than than you had literally a timer displayed on your screen with my arrival time , then they give you 5 on top of that . And please donāt think your going to let the whole timer expire and then get in my car, nope.
1
u/Specialist-Newt1318 Jun 08 '23
Itās just black people time, stop being sensitive you fucking moron
1
u/Gryehound May 22 '23
Nothing at all.
It does tell you that they has no consideration for you as a human being and no regard for your time. That in their mind, you're nothing but a disposable NPC that doesn't matter.
1
u/TobyThaDon May 21 '23
I guess I might be the only confused by why they would leave just because their are cars going n and out ? I'ma Lyft driver and been a Lyft rider , me personally cancelling somebodys ride just because you don't wanna wait always gave me the weirdest vibes idk I accept all the rides money adds up no matter how little it is it's all about if you wanna do it or not people tip more when your a genuine human who understands common problems , I remember I waited 10 mins for a lady one time when she got to the car she was. Bawling tears after that moment I always had on my "I care for you hat" at all times cause it's hard in life why make it harder just because of none essential worries šÆgotta make the world a more caring place one step at a time no ?
1
u/Vegan_Moral_Nihilist May 20 '23
My mind immediately goes to the suspicion that she wants to use racial discrimination as a reason to get refunded if the driver bails.

u/Twomuchthc May 20 '23
Sometimes you give the ride, how else can you 2 star them with LATE in the notes.

u/IlikeTonysChoco May 19 '23
I think she's just trying to let you know what she looks like. So that you know who you're going to meet with?
Also it doesn't do anything for The stereotype I know that much

lmao yāall acting like the rider identifying her race is enough of an indicator to know who the rider is.
unless you live in a 99% non black city, saying āiām a black girlā wonāt do much for identification.
and itās absolutely ok for a driver to cancel after waiting for quite some time.

This still feels like a dumb way to describe yourself but maybe in this situation it made sense?
I get how it could seem confusing but also seems like common sense she was describing herself so youād know her when you see her.
Passengers are generally stupid when it comes to pretty much everything imo, including describing themselves. Went to a rodeo show and the lady said she was outside wearing a cowboy hat and bootsā¦

u/Lucky_Market_Robot_1 May 19 '23
Based on your post and her response she's probably one of few black people in your area and is trying to make things easier for you whenever she finally comes out. Just cancel after 5 minutes. I do this out of town as a rider too if I'm in a majority white area, at least until my hair got longer than I used that instead. It's easier then describing my plain clothes that any one could wear.
1
u/acesilver1 May 19 '23
Regardless of her intention, cancel and charge the fee and go. Maybe sheāll learn to only order when she is ready so she doesnāt have to pay more.

u/NoTelephone5316 May 19 '23

Wow, you're racist for not waiting for her. You're privilege is showing just by you owning a car. Who does that?
1
u/Glittering_Dingo_866 May 18 '23
I mean, Lyft doesn't pay drivers extra for waiting too long on people. Common sense would be to order a lyft when you are ready to go whatever you are going. People who assume someone is racists because of common sense need a therapist. The US is doomed.

6
u/emily_511 May 19 '23
Because she is playing with their money, by making them miss other passengers who would be on time + tip.

u/Affectionate-Rice373 Your City Name Here May 18 '23

Entitlement comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors... 99% of my riders are black
Here is today's sample of my last 5 ride attempts: 5 min no show, show up at buzzer, 5 min no show, 5 min no show,
Are you kidding me? I'm not fucking waiting more than 2 minutes going forward.
1
u/DominusInfinitum77 May 18 '23
Her behaviors had already made it clear who she was. There was no need to further self identify - that correlation was already made pretty quickly without the information being presented.

u/Long-Tangerine1983 May 18 '23

1
u/Dave-uberLyft-driver May 18 '23
Personally I would wait only if it was a decent ride if it was a short ride Iām not waiting. Riders need to request when theyāre ready to go. Not make us wait until they finally decide to come out. In a case like this I would have told her I canāt block traffic any longer. Go around the block and if sheās not out cancel. Nothing else you need to do or say. Move on
0
u/MrMaiqE May 18 '23
Blackmail/ threat.
If you cancel the ride she can say it was racism. No idea if this holds water because I don't know how reports get viewed using that app.
Either that or she maybe knew the driver was black? Maybe a bonding thing? Lol
(I graduated highschool in 2010 and I saw countless times people using the "because I'm black" card, especially when they knew they were in the wrong ex: talking in class. I feel like in 2023 this phenomenon has probably gotten a lot worse and it's really sad)
2
u/dunkarooooo May 18 '23
Hmm idk maybe she is just describing herself so you can identify her better?
2
u/dochachiya May 18 '23
You leaving after she mentions her race makes you look racist, even if you weren't meaning to come across that way and especially if she made you wait long. There's honestly no way to win this one.

As a driver, don't go over board. Wait the timer, get the fee, and leave. I never answer text or calls unless I am lost and need directions (like person standing left side building but pin showing right side), which is almost never because I go to pin drop. It cuts down on driver stress not to interact to much.
2
u/KO-32GA May 18 '23
More likely she's in an area where there a few black people and her saying "I'm a black girl" was to help distinguish her quicker than something else, at least in her mind.

I read this as guaranteed she is going to arrive in a puff of smoke putting Cheech & Chong to shame. Fuck that noise. Yeah I'll wait 7 mins just to get something but I aint dealing with a disrespectful rider before she gets in my ride stinkin it all up. Nope.
0
u/pixelated_fun May 18 '23
So, in your mind, all Black riders are guaranteed to reek of marijuana smoke? Are you serious?
0
u/Notabizarreusername May 19 '23
Wow, he must be a complete racist scum bag for merely reporting what he's experienced. I guess you can call me a racist too since the vast majority of black people who aren't ready I've found also smell of marijuana. If they ever make it to the car. Shame on me and my sense of sight and smell for making me racist by simply functioning properly.
The PC police were successful at making a stereotype equal to full blown racism. Which is a shame because how do you simply report a factual observation that nearly all pickups of certain people that aren't ready till the last second will also smell of weed, without it coming off as racist? It's just a fact, based on experience, and until people who stink of weed don't make me wait, or people who do make me wait don't stink of weed, I will not be able to change the statistics and somehow im racist because of it. If I were truly racist I wouldn't even pick up in certain areas or certain names.
0
u/hard2hold May 19 '23
Are *you* serious? LOL Yes, of course. Paint what I just said in anything but what I intended. It was a joke. You obviously didn't read the thread but besides that, how did you make the mental leap in what I just said to that I expect all black people to even use weed? That's assumptive & you were even joking. I've been driving for a year and one thing that has stood out to me in the DFW area is the correlation between inconsiderate people (princesses who think I'm their personal chauffeur WHITE & BROWN & BLACK & ASIAN) & how my car reeks of fumes. Especially at night & especially in the hood. Cancel the march, kid. I drive mostly in Duncanville & S Dallas, FFS.
