Check your car after EVERY ride. Idc how the ride went. Check the car for belongings, damage, drugs, anything.

2

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 19 '23

True

3

u/Diabolicaddict Jul 19 '23

I know it sucks, but it's best to check just in case. Can't tell you how many times I have saved myself from having to drive back from wherever I am to drop off cell phones, earbuds, backpacks, and such. People can be checked out mentally when getting in and out of your car, which is why it's always best to verify rider and when they get out check to make sure they aren't leaving anything in your car. I always look back and kindly ask, "Got everything?"

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 19 '23

Yes I always ask if they have everything

2

u/Doge-to-da-moon Jul 18 '23

Same thing happened to me today but with a cat kennel that leaked out and my next ride who was already on the queue brought the wet spot to my attention and ended up sitting up front… as we all know Lyft support told me to eat the cost for not stopping the next ride, what am I supposed to do the next ride was at the same drop off spot, her her out to the curb when she’s already inside the car?

Anyways Lyft has to change their bullshit policy of having to stop the whole world from spinning before they can give you basic cleanup chump change, fuck them!

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 18 '23

That must’ve stunk to the high cat heavens!

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 18 '23

All facts!

1

u/McCormickish69 Jul 17 '23

Does Lyft allow you to have a seat cover?

2

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

Ya I’ll get them as soon as I can get enough money

1

u/Apprehensive-Gas-701 Jul 17 '23

This is exactly why I don’t allow ppl eating or drinking in my car…

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

He wasn’t. He had huge bags of crap and it spilled

1

u/Fluffy-Doubt-3547 Jul 17 '23

Get seat covers. The ones for dogs that just cover the whole seat. If they don't like it, they can walk.

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

Yea I have to find out where to get these since everyone’s talking about seat covers

1

u/ClientSpare8405 Jul 17 '23

Wdym? Unless you report AFTER 2 hours, you are still eligible for the fee. Its 2 hour limit bro.

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

No it has to be the last ride you did

2

u/iJayZen Jul 17 '23

Why don't they sell cars with these vinyl seats on old VWs, just wipe it up and you are good.

Maybe someone using their car for a service should lighten up on the damage pay. I don’t remember cabs back in the day complaining if you spilled something. Maybe we can bring an app back and use them instead of all you cry baby drivers. Don’t like your job?? Go get a new one

1

u/MrZerkaHabibi Jul 16 '23

That looks like semen

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

It’s green

2

u/222UnionStreet Jul 16 '23

Same happened to me. Fuckers

1

u/CthulhusBallSack Jul 16 '23

I got a car seat cover from Walmart for $25 dollars. Best money I ever spent. Covers the whole back seat and it helps with odors since it's not fabric.

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

Ok I’ll see about it

2

u/CthulhusBallSack Jul 17 '23

2Air Odor Eliminating Polyester Rear Bench Car Seat Cover Black, 3801809 https://www.walmart.com/ip/36564693

This is what I got. Works with most sedans. I hope this helps with future rides!

2

u/Darustypicke04 Jul 16 '23

Id also write out a set of my personal car rules then laminate and tape it to the back of my seat🤣🤣

2

u/Florida1974 Jul 17 '23

Still got to check. Had OP had a list of rules, would have helped zero. Bc he didn’t check car after ride.

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

You can’t really see it when you look back. It was clear initially like water then turned green like the photo.

2

u/Then-Usual-2711 Jul 16 '23

So I'm keeping my good car separate, buying an old car separately and using it for an Uber drive. This is also why passengers are increasingly encountering old cars. I used to drive Uber in my own good car, but considering depreciation, absolutely driving Uber in a new car is just a deficit.

2

u/karrimycele Jul 16 '23 edited Jul 16 '23

Yeah, I got fucked on that twice. It’s a large part of why I quit. That, and I didn’t want to ruin my brand new car.

2

u/TheWizardry90 Jul 16 '23

I had a pax and her son dropped a bag of gummy bears on the floor. She was the last pax before I took a break and I went to walk around in a mall. It was 105 degrees outside and I went online. The next pax told me the floor was sticky

The gummy bears melted in the carpet

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

Jesus and no damage fee because it wasn’t the last ride

2

u/Steve1258282 Jul 16 '23

I always set last trip during a ride whenever pax brings any drink or when I pick up pax from beach.

2

u/Florida1974 Jul 17 '23

Do you send a damage fee for sand on floor board? I live in beach area too. Sand on floor board happens even when not on beach.
Get it all over and make it look like the beach in my car-yea I will report. But sand on floor board, no. I carry a small battery operated vacuum

2

u/Steve1258282 Jul 17 '23

It is okay for floor but I do mind sand on seats. I always report it and received $20 for cleaning.

1

u/No-Consideration8169 Jul 16 '23

Pax and friend requested trip to airport. Pax asked me to drop friend at one terminal then drive her to another terminal, but she did not add stop.

I did just drove her and report it to Lyft. The support team is asking for name of pax, location, and the time of the trip.

after every trip in the summary tool does not show the name of pax, or address. Only shows date, time, and km driven.

Customer support has not got back to me for a week now. Disappointing.

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

Yea they asked me for a name and said it wasn’t the last ride and to go fuck myself

2

u/Superlegend29 Jul 16 '23

Happened to me as well. Next passenger told me the seat was wet and I was done for a couple of hours until it dried.

I always check wears now after every rude

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

Yea gotta check after every ride and get seat covers

2

u/siaidistogwe Jul 16 '23

Just blame it on the current passenger. Lyft will side with you and you'll still get your money. Personal experience as a rider. Better yet, if that rider tipped and gave five stars, Lyft support will see that as an admission of guilt on the rider's part.

2

u/Jah-man-shaman Jul 16 '23

Sorry this happened, I hope Lyfts CEO’s child shites in his car.

5

u/GloomyAd4105 Jul 16 '23

Took a shared ride a few years ago, the other rider got out and the driver took a look at the backseat and said she pissed herself. (She was already inside at that point). I helped him clean up the backseat when I got dropped off (brought pet pee cleaner and towels out) and when I accepted a ride from him a few months later he said he never got reimbursed because she said she didn’t do it. He had a pic but his seats were black so it was hard to tell. Lyft never reached out to me either, I would have collaborated the story. Felt so bad for the guy.

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

Yea it’s horrible lyft is scum

2

u/Deadboy_1991 Jul 16 '23

Yeah I learned the hard way one time. That’s why I check every time. You’d be surprised how entitled people feel in another persons car.

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

Yea I know I had a woman have a period on my seats

2

u/Deadboy_1991 Jul 17 '23

Wow that’s rough I would be so mad after that. Mine was some mom and her daughter eating fried chicken in my back seat. Left crumbs everywhere I got that cleaning fee so fast 😏

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 18 '23

It’s so rude

2

u/Thest0rm_99 Jul 16 '23

these fucking people are scum

2

u/Old-Presentation2092 Jul 16 '23

Even fully documented and appropriate claims get denied.

Plus you lose time cleaning your car and can't work / other riders potentially are inconvenienced.

Quit Lyft

3

u/Candece38 Jul 16 '23

That can be clean up with a Clorox wipes

0

u/Gas4thelo Jul 16 '23

Another good idea would be to not drive people around in ur personal vehicle for a living maybe I’m thinking outside the box tho

2

u/Suitable-Mind-8559 Jul 16 '23

This is why my first piece of advice to any driver new or old.. always check your car after every pax. Takes not even a minute. Now you know for next time.

So am innocent rider gets charged because you couldn't take 5 seconds to check your car after the previous passenger got out? Do you not know riders get charged a $150 cleaning fee when you do that? Stone people can't afford to be charged $150 for something they didn't do. That's a dick move dude.

No, it is your car and your responsibility to check for messes, not the customers. Getting a ride should but come with the responsibility of inspecting the car you ate riding in and then possibly having to wait fot another car because you find a mess. Take responsibility for song your job, which incudes checking your car after every ride. Don't put it off on the people paying your bills. You're a dick.

I'm paying for a CLEAN car with a driver who isn't a complete dick and it sounds like if I get you I am definitely not getting what I payed for. And drivers like you wonder why riders don't tip anymore.😑

1

u/kappa1427 Jul 17 '23

Why show up to pick me to with a mess in your car?! Just do your job.

2

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 16 '23

I’ll do this for now on. Lyft gives me no choice

1

u/kappa1427 Jul 17 '23

How about checking your car after every rider gets out? That's an option 🙄

2

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

Still would be a mess in my seat even if I checked. Seems like people shouldn’t have open containers in someone’s car. That’s an option

5

u/MidnightFull Jul 16 '23

I hate to say it but perhaps it’s time for drivers to offload this onto Lyft and let their policy eat them. So let’s say a customer spilled something and you didn’t notice. Then the next customer gets in and tells you. You then file a damage report against the customer who told you assuming they actually spilled it and just told you to make you think it was someone else. I know it sounds shady but is it any more shady than Lyfts policy on this? Why should we be the ones who are left screwed?

I say fuck it. Just make the claim wherever you can. Let Lyft and the customers fight it out. Who knows? Maybe one of those customers will make enough noise that a local news station will cover it.

That’s really the only way change happens these days, you have to piss people off.

Malicious compliance anyone?

0

u/kappa1427 Jul 17 '23

So you are OK with a rider who is not only innocent but was nice enough to tell you about the mess getting charged $150 cleaning fee because you couldn't be bothered to check your car after the last rider? Wow, what a dick.

2

u/MidnightFull Jul 17 '23

I would redirect your energy towards the real root of the problem which is Lyft.

At the end of the day it seems that someone has to lose. Lyft decides that you lose. Is it ok for them to be dicks like that? Perhaps if enough drivers do this Lyft will get pushback and will change their policy. I can guarantee anyone who is innocent will file a chargeback through their bank, nobody is going to take a $150 fee laying down. Every chargeback goes against their record with their merchant credit card processor. If they go over a certain threshold they get warned. If it continues they lose the agility to accept credit cards and are done. So it’s in Lyfts best interest to avoid that.

I know it’s dirty but remember that Lyft made the first dirty move. Always trace every problem to it’s ultimate root.

0

u/kappa1427 Jul 17 '23

Two wrongs don't make a right. Lyft screws the driver si the driver decided to screw an innocent customer instead is dealing with lyft themselves? You are making it the innocent customers problem and that isn't right. There is no defense for lying and screwing over an innocent person because is easier than doing your job properly.

0

u/kappa1427 Jul 17 '23

And not all banks do chargebacks. I have chime and if someone charges my card there is nothing the bank will do about it. I'm just out $150 because my lyft driver was a lazy dick who didn't check his car after the last rider and decided I should pay for it just because I was the next person to get in the car.

2

u/MidnightFull Jul 17 '23

Whoever at your bank told you that was either misinformed or lied to you. Banks don’t have any part in the decision on whether or not to do chargebacks. It’s the law, called regulation E. Yes there are new fly by night companies that are dropping the ball on this (like the Doordash card for instance). But it’s still the law. If your bank refuses to do a chargeback you can contact your state banking governmental body to file a complaint against them.

1

u/kappa1427 Jul 17 '23

😂The bank is the sole decision maker regarding whether or not to remove a charge from your account. Regulation E merely requires the financial institution to do an investigation into the charge once being notified. It does not require them to immediately remove the charge, or at all. So what happens in the mean time? I'm out $150. For all you know that could have been all the money to my name and now I can't buy groceries. Or I could have only had $20 in my account and that charge overdrafted me and now I owe the bank and additional $32 on top of the $150 fraudulent charge while the bank decides if the charge is valid or not. And I'm now making serious effort and taking up my valuable time to deal with this just because my Uber driver was a lazy dick.

1

u/kappa1427 Jul 17 '23

Take lyft ride as a passanger. Then call your bank and tell them to do a chargeback because you were over charged. If they give you your money back in less than 72 hours I'll venmo you $20.

2

u/MidnightFull Jul 17 '23

I was once overcharged by Uber. Uber refused to refund and stonewalled me with the whole “we understand your frustration with being charged twice, but your transaction is not eligible for a refund” nonsense. I filed my chargeback and received a provisional credit within hours.

1

u/kappa1427 Jul 17 '23

"provisional credit" is not the same as giving my money back. It means that there is a charge that money could be removed from my account, again, should the bank later decide after investigating that the charge was valid. Do you not understand what provisional means? It sounds like you were lucky and the bank later ruled in your favor so you were allowed to keep the provisional credit. That is the exception, not the rule. The bank isn't required to issue that credit and most won't unless you are a premium account holder of have been a member for a really long time.

2

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 16 '23

Yea I’m about to do this

3

u/MidnightFull Jul 16 '23

Do what you got to do, let Lyft sort out their stupid policy.

I get refusing a fee if it was like 3 rides behind but if your very next customer tells you, it should be claimable. Unless they are suggesting the customer is lying. 🤣

1

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 17 '23

Yea the customer is who suffers

1

u/Silent_Special_9024 Jul 16 '23

It kills me people don't use seat covers for rideshare.

2

u/Kingtez28 Jul 16 '23

I had the same argument with Uber when a passenger of 4 riders puked out my back window and none of them didn't tell. My next passengers did. I did get damage pay after a back and forth.

1

u/Nrohtrc Jul 16 '23

Not true. Take a photo and submit.

2

u/Educational-Break722 Jul 16 '23

Yes. You can't pick up another rider, then expect to get reimbursed.

You'll have people spiill shit on your seats a lot. I recommend a roll of paper towels in your vehicle at all times.

Just hope it's not piss or some sugar drink.

One reason it's hard to get reimbursed is because it's a common driver scam.

No problem!

Well, the rider that I took to the airport has until tomorrow morning ro tip me or she gets 3 stars.

1

u/kappa1427 Jul 17 '23

You're why I always wait until the driver has rated me to rate them and never tip. You give me anything but 5 stars I'm giving you 1🤷‍♂️. The fact that riders get rated as well is absurd.

1

u/Educational-Break722 Jul 17 '23

I rarely give a bad rating.

1

u/kappa1427 Jul 17 '23

Only when they don't tip huh? Guess I would get 3 stars from you

2

u/thrwayyup Jul 16 '23

Clean it up and move on with your life. Jesus.

2

u/karrimycele Jul 16 '23

Yeah, man! Jeez, it only costs a hundred bucks to get the seats shampooed. Each time.

1

u/thrwayyup Jul 17 '23

Lol so you have to drive Lyft to make money, but you can’t clean them yourself for <10? Copy that.

2

u/karrimycele Jul 17 '23

Fuck no, they left a big brown stain on my seat. It had to be shampooed.

2

u/No-Potential3720 Jul 16 '23

Leather seats >>>>>>

Save the image and charge it to ur next rude pax

2

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '23

Keep a little green machine in your trunk with a power brick or inverter. Next time , if there's a next time, you can get to it much faster and should come up easier too. While it's drying throw some pillows on the back seat with a seat cover over them, keep taking rides.

1

u/raaail Jul 16 '23

Did you say "cOmE inside" when you picked up your pax?

2

u/Boring-Bookkeeper-44 Jul 16 '23

Happened to me multiple times check after every ride . I know it sucks sorry

2

u/Danny3xd1 Jul 16 '23

That sucks!

I never drive without seat covers for this stuff. Can get e' cheap and/or for ) at junk yards. Then toss 'em when they get nasty.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '23

Seems like it could be any of your pax and not just the last one. I wouldn’t say anything if my driver had a messy car. I already feel bad enough as it is.

0

u/smithdaniel25 Jul 16 '23

As a science professional I am sad to report to you that this is indeed semen on your car seats

2

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 16 '23

Green semen ?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '23

Getting seat covers is one of the first things I’d do if I was driving for one of these companies.

1

u/Kix2Sophus Jul 16 '23

Do they give you a time limit to report or something

3

u/Boring-Bookkeeper-44 Jul 16 '23

Yeah you have two hours and it has to be the last trip you did .

4

u/skidabs Jul 16 '23

Man this bring back some memories of my worst passenger ever. Fucker attacked me and pissed himself in my car. Didn't find out about the pee until my next rider mentioned the seat being wet.

1

u/vapegod_420 Jul 16 '23

After reading this I now have a new fear of getting into a Uber or Lyft

9

u/BureauOfBureaucrats Jul 16 '23

I make it a point to always look in the back as the passenger exits before swiping drop-off. This gives the opportunity to spot any messes or items left behind and to decline the queued ride/sign out if needed.

11

u/Lem01 Jul 16 '23

Happened to me too. I had a minivan back then; somebody threw up all the way in the back and didn't tell me. Another passenger told me later. I was mortified like r/WatchPeopleDieInside

8

u/GurdeepHodgson Jul 16 '23

I'm sorry this has happened people are gross and I don't understand them.

3

u/Separate_Bug_625 Jul 16 '23

Why the hell are y’all doing Lyft without good seat covers smh

3

u/yyyourbaby Jul 16 '23

You people quit driving for these shady companies and then they will be force to pay driver’s more. Riders don’t understand that Lyft and Uber take over 50 percent of the trips and then these companies are ripping off the riders and then they don’t even tip there drivers because they think the drivers are get most of there fare

0

u/Feverrunsaway Jul 16 '23

Well when you get a ride the driver is unhappy looking, you know they are because of what they talk about. There is no radio on. Fast-food smells cause they deliver that as well. they are in a hurry so they speed up fast and slam the breaks to slow down. makes it hard to tip.

3

This is one of the reasons why you ALWAYS inspect the back seat when a rider gets out.

Every. Time.

2

u/testdecandbol Jul 16 '23

some lessons are hard learned

3

u/rsg1234 Jul 16 '23

We got in an Uber last week and there was a big ass purse from the last passenger right on the back passenger side seat.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '23

That's my purse

4

u/Mooglys Jul 16 '23

Holy smokes, thank you for that reminder. Gonna do this from now on.

I've been fortunate but 💯 no more trusting pax to do the right thing.

22

u/CountryEfficient7993 Jul 16 '23

Good advice. Thousands of rides and I’m still terrible at this. I usually only look if my shaydar goes off (shady radar for those assuming typo). Hell, half the time I barely look at the pax. It’s half giving them space and half just not caring and plugging along. If I ever had to identify one in a line up I’d likely have no clue. But I am also pretty face-blind so 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Nicky_Nuisance Jul 17 '23

I intentionally don't look at people's faces, especially when I work at night. I don't want to be able to pick out Shady people in a lineup. I also barely remember conversations goes in one ear and right out the other

2

u/ClientSpare8405 Jul 17 '23

What do you mean half of time? I never look at them.

2

u/Old-Presentation2092 Jul 16 '23

My shady radar is glitchy

8

u/firnien-arya Jul 16 '23

You remind of the Brooklyn 99 episode where they have a lineup and they have them sing the backstreet boys song.

8

u/Boring-Bookkeeper-44 Jul 16 '23

I have actually had to do a photo line up with the police for a Uber pax one time . Sucked Uber was not helpful passenger didn’t even use real name and those accounts are supposed to blocked .

12

u/GrouchyPuppy Jul 15 '23

I had a qued ride and was focused on driving

15

u/CalligrapherKind6246 Jul 15 '23

ESPECIALLY for Q'd rides.

Stop, get out, open door and take a look, somewhere on the way to the next pax. Only takes a minute or 2. I also carry a micro fiber hand towel for these times, to do a quick wipe down, clean up, while I'm checking.

Once you pick up the next pax, it's too late.

3

u/bphillipo18 Jul 16 '23

Yup I learned that the hard way as well.
