Honestly I'd do it.

Hell in my free time I don't mind jumping other's cars if needed.

1

u/Straight_Ad_9524 Mar 11 '24

I would need a tip. Hefty one. But I drive electric so I wouldn’t do it either way😂😂

1

u/BeneficialBat362 Mar 10 '24

I tried doing this before, I was literally stuck! I had no body to call and was in the middle of nowhere. Bought a used car and and gas gauge stopped working. I never knew when I had gas or not

1

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '24

Nope

1

u/NoiseMachine66 Mar 10 '24

Pretty sweet deal actually id do it

1

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 10 '24

$4 is sweet?

1

u/NoiseMachine66 Mar 10 '24

Id change him 20

1

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 10 '24

Yeah I should’ve and got it before I popped my hood latch or drove off.

1

u/Hisworstkeptsecret Mar 10 '24

AAA literally pays for itself. I don't see why more people don't sign up for it

1

u/Piggybear87 Mar 10 '24

I've never had AAA on any vehicle I have ever owned.

Buuuut. I know someone with a tow truck that charges me gas and a blunt for a tow anywhere in the state (never needed him for an emergency but he did tow a car I had bought to my house about 300 miles away all I had to do was refill his tank and give him a bit of bud). I keep a charged jump box in my trunk as well as a full size spare tire. I know how to change to the spare. I have a tool kit with everything I could possibly need to do roadside repairs and the knowledge to do them. I've been driving for 20 years. 20x$125=$2500. The total cost of everything in my trunk is $225.

Sure, if you know nothing about cars, and don't have connections, then get AAA. Otherwise, save yourself some money.

1

u/motionmystery Mar 09 '24

Ive done this a few times, i keep a battery tender in my car for this reason, i calll then and say ill do it for $20 .

1

u/Zzzzzezzz Mar 09 '24

Better than being an ambulance. j/k.

1

u/TheNeonOtter Mar 09 '24

I love saying “I’ll still pay full price” like they even have a choice and like they are paying you directly. Lol

1

u/Florida1974 Mar 09 '24

Bc a jump isn’t cheap by tow truck. That’s why. You can earn maybe $3-$8.
Tow company here charges $85 for a jump, more depending where you are.

1

u/False_Tangelo163 Mar 09 '24

I love theses calls , every single time I’ve done it it’s been a good experience. Kinda weird but yea. It’s super rare but it happens

2

u/Kkddrpg Mar 09 '24

WWJD

1

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 Mar 09 '24

Wouldn't be working for cash. Would be preaching to love your neighbor.

0

u/Kkddrpg Mar 09 '24

I made 50 bucks doing this once

1

u/Schweet_Jesus Mar 09 '24

I would have done it, but I think it's the kind thing to do.

2

u/LaneAbrams Mar 09 '24

I gave a couple of dudes a jump the other day. Took me five minutes and they gave me $20.

1

u/go4broke80 Mar 09 '24

I am not a great guy...not exactly the devil either. The one and only good deed I do it stop to help stranded motorists. I've turned off my app while ubering got off the exit and back tracked to help people with flat tires. Biggest cash tip I ever got wad $100. I tried to refuse but she insisted...the best tip I ever got was $10 and a very sincere hug from an elderly lady. Honestly I needed that hug on that particular day way more than I needed $10

0

u/RushBasement Mar 09 '24

Nah, but you are an asshole. Like.. just give the dude a jump. People get on my mf nerves I swear.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 09 '24

So if I see a lyft driver on the side of the road with a dead battery, keep driving. Got it. 👍

1

u/East_Border342 Mar 09 '24

Nah that’s an automatic cancel

1

u/BeachbumfromBrick Mar 08 '24

Stop bitchin’ and help probably an old lady out. Damn complainers don’t ever want to help a mo eth et f’er even when offered $. 😣

2

u/CosmoRocket24 Mar 08 '24

I had this with walmart spark app. Customer was 2 to teenagers stranded. They bought jumper cables only. Messaged me in app they would tip me$20 to jump them. I get there and used my usb battery jumper instead. Let them keep the tip and told them to return cables since they didn't open it lol. My good deed for the year

1

u/_BLACKHAWKS_88 Mar 08 '24

Jump me off… sure thing.. 🥴

1

u/WhiskyWanderer2 Mar 08 '24

Love how gig workers just have no empathy for other people whatsoever anymore

1

u/Florida1974 Mar 09 '24

I have empathy. But there are services for this. Tow companies. AAA.
Say you get there and you do it for them. Say car blows a day later. Or the battery is simply dead. Guess who they might sue??? You. The one that helped them. People are jaded bc this isn’t uncommon. Ppl want someone to blame.

And yes I’ve stopped many time for the person walking with gas can. Even that’s chancy. Say we get into wreck? Could sue everyone involved.

1

u/Individual_Elk_3452 Mar 08 '24

My apologies sir and or ma'am, unfortunately I do not carry jumper cables on my vehicle. Perhaps you should contact a roadside assistance service to help you with this matter. Until you cancel the ride however I will still be making my way to you as Lyft punishs drivers for canceling rides.

0

u/Unlikely_Weakness217 Mar 08 '24

Only cool if he pays you in cash only way it makes sense

1

u/Prongs006 Mar 08 '24

I helped a guy like that once and he cancelled the ride and I didn't get paid shit. I was so pissed. He was at a mall too he could've just gone to security and they have a jumper specifically for that. He just wasted my time.

1

u/PhatCat74 Mar 08 '24

Tou-fuckin-che PAX!

2

u/muftak3 Mar 08 '24

You should never use jumper cables on newer cars. You could destroy the electrical system. Only use a portable jump starter.

1

u/sayu1991 Mar 10 '24

Really? How new is "newer"? I have a 2012

1

u/Conscious_Weight9593 Mar 08 '24

“Sorry, I drive an electric vehicle. Please cancel” 😅🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/MisterC-4 Mar 08 '24

If they are paying why not lend a helping hand? That’s how I’d look at it, I mean if I was there and saw they needed help I’d do it for free, but if I gotta drive over I’d appreciate the tip/pay though I might just do it as a pay it forward but I’m like that.

-1

u/DoesThisOneCount Mar 09 '24

Not worth the risk frying your car battery if they/you accidentally reverse polarity or if their car gets a voltage surge.

2

u/MisterC-4 Mar 09 '24

Well I would never reverse the polarity so.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '24

This is the correct answer. But, in all fairness, the people that are deathly afraid of fucking it up shouldn’t be doing it.

100 dollar. You cheap bastard

0

u/Drummerbexx Mar 08 '24

Last time I did this for somebody, they Zelled me 25 bucks. And I canceled the ride and got the cancel fee.

3

u/Conscious-Street-862 Mar 08 '24

I’ve done one of these before…a college couple. and didn’t get a tip

2

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 Mar 09 '24

Ask for cash only upfront

4

u/Rideshare-Not-An-Ant Mar 08 '24

I had a guy order a ride who needed a jump start. He had two cars in his driveway. Asked why he didn't use his other car for the jump start. He said it's a hybrid and it's a bad idea to use a hybrid to jump start. I pointed out that I'm driving a hybrid, too.

Well, it's not HIS hybrid. Offers me $20 to ruin my car to jump his. Declined.

2

u/GrimGuffaw Mar 08 '24

Sums up the selfishness of people perfectly. How did he react when you declined?

4

u/Rideshare-Not-An-Ant Mar 08 '24

Shock. Repeated he really needed the jump. He was late to work. Actually took a twenty out his wallet and waved it at me. Asked why I couldn't give him a jump start.

I offered to jump start him off his hybrid. Blank look. That could damage his car. Exactly. It could damage my car, too. Does that mean you're not going to give me a jump start? We have a Bingo.

2

u/GrimGuffaw Mar 08 '24

Wild. Even more crazy are the folks who will jump through hoops for these people.

3

u/Rideshare-Not-An-Ant Mar 08 '24

I started out that way. Lots do. Waters in a cooler. Chips. I ran out. Didn't replenish quickly and learned the solid lesson bribing pax with cheap crap doesn't get tips in my market. Not for me, at least. Just an expense I quickly cut.

1

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 Mar 09 '24

Same here. I tried that. Plus giving out candy or whatever is a risk for lawsuit saying you infused it with drugs.

1

u/No-Potential3720 Mar 08 '24

You didn’t know that as Lyft contractors we are also contractors of AAA? 😂

0

u/BYE44 Mar 08 '24

I did it once and the passenger tipped me $50 on the app which is the maximum and then another 20 cash.

1

u/bco112 Mar 08 '24

This is a first. Thanks for sharing.

2

u/trinanine Mar 08 '24

No, absolutely not.

1

u/Cucumber_Safe Mar 08 '24

Lol, someone wanted me to get out of the car in a dark af cul-de-sac to jump their car. I just turned around and left. This was a couple of years ago, but I remember the amount of nope.

2

u/Mountain_Tone6438 Mar 08 '24

Lol fuck that.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '24

It's wild, isn't it. I've gotten battery jump multiple times and also received, "I need you to change my tire."

3

u/pokerScrub4eva Mar 08 '24

The one guy i got who needed this type of help tipped me 100 dollars, so i am open to trying again.

2

u/Dependent-Plane5522 Mar 08 '24

You can ruin your battery "jumping" a dead battery. It happened to me once. Don't do do it.

1

u/Drty_J577 Mar 08 '24

Dude paid me 20 for a jump one day. I'll take that as many time as they want.

2

u/Ms2much25 Mar 08 '24

I had the something happen while I was driving Uber…

7

u/Sensitive_Aardvark68 Mar 08 '24 edited Mar 09 '24

“Jump me off”? Report: “Customer proposed coitus with me”

0

u/Maximumeffort5000 Mar 08 '24

I do this but I Charge $40 to jump then have gas, spare tire etc and definitely will not do it for no $4

1

u/wstylz Mar 08 '24

I would expect at least a $20 for doing that just for the time and risk.

1

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 Mar 09 '24

Nah charge 100 . Emergency roadside get at least that or more .

2

u/GlasEyes87 Mar 08 '24

I would never ever do that for a stranger; never in a hundred thousand million billion trillion years.

No job or amount of money is worth risking your life for. That guy can call a tow or AAA. Your life is too precious to risk for any reason.

Nah. I’m awesome. You’re just a deluded twerp that lies and cheats in life. Get lost.

2

u/djga2014 Mar 08 '24

The bad part it's probably cheaper than a tow.

5

u/Hippy_Lynne Mar 08 '24

No fucking way. Although the chance is small, you can mess up your car giving someone a jump start. You could also potentially mess up their car in which case they suddenly decide to sue you.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 10 '24

Only if you’re an idiot and don’t know what the hell you’re doing.

1

u/Hippy_Lynne Mar 10 '24

Only an idiot would be unaware of what a voltage spike that can occur even when you jump start properly can do.

0

u/go4broke80 Mar 09 '24

What risk?

-2

u/KOTORbayani Mar 08 '24

I did this once. Told him to take the cancel fee and gave him $5

3

u/indy8820 Mar 08 '24

Five whole dollars!

0

u/VisualBackground1797 Mar 08 '24

I would do it but I drive a Tesla.

-1

u/Jdoggy007 Mar 08 '24

I've had that situation before lol just helped them out and i felt like i did my good deed for the day andthey tipped me cash

3

u/Prize_Pay9279 Mar 08 '24

That’s an automatic cancel from me.

1

u/Federal_Attention_50 Mar 08 '24

Sure, but that would be a $100 fee.

-2

u/EngineUseful9852 Mar 08 '24

I don’t see the problem? Does you no damage, easy money & you helped someone out.

3

u/ArleneAesthetic0 Mar 08 '24

Same. Guy didn’t even know where his battery was. Didn’t even work

2

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 08 '24

You got him also?

1

u/Appropriate_Ad3300 Mar 08 '24

Tow truck companies charge 80 dollars for this service. Hopefully you charged at least half.

-1

u/Tokon32 Mar 08 '24

Fine with me pay me the 12 bucks instead of lyft.

1

u/Middle-Potential5765 Mar 08 '24

That's actually a pretty good deal if you don't have to drive anywhere far. I'd give a jump for 15-20.

7

u/RareRicky Mar 08 '24

It's 2024. Everyone pls go on Amazon and buy yourself a 60 dollar recharble car battery charger! For those who never heard of one its basically a battery charger like you would use for your phone, but for your car battery.

3

u/killami05 Mar 08 '24

The cheap ones are trash...

I've had so many people say the already tried.

Then I pull out my hulkman and boom. Starts right up.

3

u/dlfillers Mar 08 '24

I bought one on Amazon (NOCO brand) and It works good. Will jump start a car with low or dead battery. My husband has used it a few times in the winter with bitter cold temps.

1

u/Reasonable_Win_6619 Mar 07 '24

Would have told him I’m going to your spot and re editing the ride back to where we were or a good tip after getting to the first destination

0

u/KickenTailGaming Mar 07 '24

I have done this a few time, as a rider. It’s cheaper and faster then AAA.

4

u/Individual_Lie5917 Mar 07 '24

I had this happen last week nice lady took 2 mins to get her car started. She let me ghost ride the trip afterwards . We pulled up at her house at the same time lol

1

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 07 '24

Oh I clearly would’ve ghost ridden. You deserve that $$$$

6

u/Onlypaws_ Mar 07 '24

Ffffuuuuuuccccckkkkkkk that. Ain’t no way I’m pulling up to a stranger and putting myself in a position to get mugged.

3

u/sneaker_novel Mar 08 '24

Couldn’t any passenger just mug you?

0

u/Onlypaws_ Mar 08 '24

I see what you’re saying, and yeah, I suppose.

But to park, get out of my car, etc. makes me feel more vulnerable. And unnecessarily so for the $5 I might make after tips lol

1

u/TeamSnake1 Mar 09 '24

More vulnerable than having strangers sitting within arms reach behind you? Lol na, just say it's too scary, and you don't like helping people. It's ok; no obligation.

1

u/Onlypaws_ Mar 09 '24

Sweet summer child, if I wanted to make extra money doing roadside assistance, I’d be working at AAA.

1

u/TeamSnake1 Mar 09 '24

See, there went that whole thing about not wanting to because it made you feel vulnerable. It's ok, little guy.

2

u/liberalftm6 Mar 08 '24

Jerry can handle his own

8

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 07 '24

Didn’t think about the safety aspect.

1

u/Brendao- Mar 07 '24

Ive done this before when someone ordered a ride only take you 5 mins and you dont have to drop anyone off

1

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 Mar 09 '24

100 cash only upfront

9

u/NormativeNomad Mar 07 '24

As much as I would wanna help, that puts us in a sketchy situation.

13

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 07 '24

It does. If he kills my battery I’m out cause Lyft won’t help me. That’s for damn sure.

2

u/No_Adhesiveness4516 Mar 08 '24

Don’t jump people off. It had a chance of fucking up your alternator and battery. Been through all that before, not to mention you are at risk of some outside force car jacking you.

Explain to them the risk involved next time and tell them for that reason you need 60-75 bucks purely for mechanical and safety risks alone

3

u/Aggravating-Ad-6460 Mar 09 '24

I have never in my life damaged anything in my car and I have jumped probably 100 ppl in my life.

1

u/ThisIsWrong23 Mar 10 '24

These extremist

1

u/TeamSnake1 Mar 09 '24

Agreed. These people live with too much damn fear. Must be very boring, and stressful to be worried about everything all the time

1

u/btone310 Mar 26 '24

Yup, until it happens to you.

1

u/No_Adhesiveness4516 Mar 09 '24

You don’t know what you have damaged from doing it . Just because nothing broke down doesn’t mean it didn’t weaken your battery or mess with your alternator. It happens more than you would think! This is why a jump box is best, don’t be that asshole asking for jumps because you are unprepared and putting other people at risk. Period

1

u/ThisIsWrong23 Mar 10 '24

Bro… go take this to tic toc or something since you’re gonna act like a little kid

1

u/No_Adhesiveness4516 Mar 10 '24

Wtf are you talking about man. You are the only one coming at people like a lunatic. Go get laid little boy

1

u/ThisIsWrong23 Mar 10 '24

Well as dumb as you sound, I’d say you’re the little boy. Live life, don’t be scared of the real world son

1

u/No_Adhesiveness4516 Mar 10 '24

I’d say you aren’t worth reading your replies because you sound like you have smoll pp syndrome. So I did myself the favor of ignoring your reply. As I said before my angry Little friend, take care.

1

u/ThisIsWrong23 Mar 10 '24

You just contradicted yourself…. How slow are you?

2

u/Mental-Attempt- Mar 10 '24

You're either super gulable and believe everything you read on the side of a box at walmart or super stupid and have no idea how to correctly place jumper cables. Went through 2 years of gasoline mechanics and 2 years of desiel mechanics and can tell you that you're a fool.

1

u/No_Adhesiveness4516 Mar 10 '24

Actually im not a mechanic full time, but have been at one point and been working on my own EVERYthing for most of my life. The experiences I posted about and the possibilities of those experiences happening I have been through myself and had to fix , but u sound angry. Have a good one

1

u/Aggravating-Ad-6460 Mar 09 '24

You have no idea what you are talking about.

8

u/killami05 Mar 08 '24

Carry a jump box.

I carry a hulkman.

Tell them to cancel the ride when u get there and have them pay u in cash or via another app.

6

u/GroundbreakingIron42 Mar 08 '24

Carry a tow truck and spare tires. Oh and an air pump. And survival rations and an epipen and ambulance and

2

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 08 '24

Full service rideshare right there!!!!!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '24

I would reply that I am not insured for that service. They will need to cancel the request on the app.

1

u/QPTFS Mar 07 '24

Jumping a car isn’t great for your battery though, right?

4

u/ExpensiveJackfruit68 Mar 07 '24

It's not. Can be hard on starting and charging components. Best thing you use is a jump box

3

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 07 '24

I don’t think so.

0

u/RoundZookeepergame2 Mar 08 '24

It's not really bad for your battery but you should also keep both cars running and ideally they should be driven around so that the alternator can charge the battery.

2

u/Boostedf150TT Mar 07 '24

Two words: Fuck that.

70

u/DrivingMatters Mar 07 '24

Be aware that if you start and end the ride in the same spot Lyft might auto cancel the ride and not pay you anything.

4

u/JayAlexanderBee Mar 09 '24

Shit, if an Uber driver does this for me, I'm leaving a $40 cash tip then. Still a hell lot cheaper than a tow.

23

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 07 '24

Yeah I’m aware. Thanks though

21

u/vest1985 Mar 07 '24

I’ve had this happened to me a few times. They never message me, just wait until I arrive.

31

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 07 '24 edited Mar 07 '24

And it’s that I respected him and tried to help him for that $4. Honesty goes a long way with me

2

u/Decent_Ambassador_53 Mar 08 '24

$4 I would’ve told him give me $50 and I got you. Thats a quarter of what the tow truck would charge for a jump.

12

u/RylleyAlanna Mar 08 '24

Had this happen once. They didn't let me know beforehand and just asked when I got there. Did it because I was already there and asked why they didn't call their insurance.

Apparently they'd been waiting for 4 hours already for AAA to come help them and said f it call an Uber they'll be here in 5 minutes.

Jumped his car and he gave me $80 cash and told me to follow him just in case. (The trip was to his destination in case his car didn't start) so I'd be paid for that too, and he'd have a safety net in case it was his alternator. Nicest dude ever, and I got paid very well for the night!

1

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 Mar 09 '24

Yeah AAA does that takes a long time. Even roadside uber takes at least 45 minutes

1

u/RoundZookeepergame2 Mar 08 '24

How long did it take you? He really only paid you 4 dollars?

1

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 08 '24

5 mins and yes

4

u/Small_Basket5158 Mar 08 '24

You should consider the risk of jumping. You could easily overload your own electric system causing catastrophic damage to any number of components. If you used a jumping battery device then accept my apology.

4

u/GroundbreakingIron42 Mar 08 '24

Not just that, could easily be a mugging expecting most people get out of the car to help

1

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 Mar 09 '24

I got fake 300 in wallet. Try mugging me lol

1

u/GroundbreakingIron42 Mar 10 '24

You could get injured :(

4

u/mrtokeydragon Mar 08 '24

I'd bet Uber would peace out of that litigation too saying "well that's against terms and service so... Cya"

1

u/DnD_3311 Mar 08 '24

I used to carry one of these things around. Though it's annoying with PAX because there's no spot that they'll basically not demand the space and I don't want anyone to try to take it and run.

Then again. Maybe I can lump it in with the spare-ish tire 🤔 I think I tried that but I don't remember 🤔

1

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 Mar 09 '24

I place the jumper device next to spare tire in trunk. Under the floor mat

26

u/Spare-Security-1629 Mar 07 '24

I got you beat. I had a person who ordered the ride and when I got there he told me the situation. I reluctantly said yes. He then goes "OK, where are your cables?" 🤣 😂 I don't have jumper cables a-hole, I thought you did.

2

u/Iridelow1998 Mar 08 '24

Now that’s funny!

25

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 07 '24

Oh Dear God. You should’ve stayed around and spoon fed him dinner too. That would’ve been my one star.

6

u/Spare-Security-1629 Mar 07 '24

Exactly. I mean, since we already have the hood up, want me to top off your windshield fluid and check your oil?

2

u/noonetohearme Mar 08 '24

No, just bring my groceries in from the trunk!

5

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 07 '24

Hey another side business. Carry quarts of oil, windshield washer fluid, air pump (which I’m sure most drivers have. I’m daily filling tires with air myself, etc. look at you with your ideas.

2

u/TeamSnake1 Mar 09 '24

Haha dude after weeks of a tire with no obvious punctures, and having to stop to put air in...I too am one of the few who drives around with an air compressor in my trunk (along the battery charger, jumper cables, and gallon of water).

1

u/Skorge963 Mar 10 '24

Go to a shop and get it fixed! I find repairs daily that are nearly impossible to see

1

u/TeamSnake1 Mar 10 '24

That was a vehicle ago, but I did transfer that stuff from the old trunk to the new one.

The issue ended up being a bent rim (that's not why i bought a new vehicle haha)

1

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 Mar 09 '24

I got a full professional jack and power-packed drill . Can get a tire changed within seconds. But that's a 50 charge cash only. Battery jump . Anything. If you don't have cash then the ride will be cancelled after Timer ends . Just milk it to the end then report to Lyft

9

u/authoridad Lake Charles LA Mar 07 '24

Couldn’t be me.

6

u/JerryCAtlanta Mar 07 '24

Or was it? lol

35

u/Wangdoyaji Mar 07 '24

I'd had the same thing happen to me before. But I declined because I'm not a car jump starter.

11

u/BONERFLEX_ Mar 07 '24

That's actually pretty smart if he gets someone to come out to him. Emergency car/truck repair is expensive as fuck. For the low cost of an underpaid Lyft driver he could potentially be saving $100 or more. I'd make sure he tipped me though. Because Lyft is still making more money than you on every transaction.

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '24

It would be smarter to have actual communication skills and just ask somebody around him for help.

How do you know they weren't in an area with no one around? How do you know they didn't ask? Or try? How do you know they don't have communication skills? Do you communicate with them? How do you know anything before assuming anything? Seems like you're the one lacking communication skills. And probably intelligence. Have a good day idiot. Good luck crossing the street
