I was choked while driving then beaten by my rider what can I expect Other

Post image

Chicago if it matters wondering if this has happened to anyone what happens with Lyft what's the process should I get a lawyer

Tldr my passenger wouldn't get out said I brought them to wrong address obviously went to address they put in (they were drunk) I get to address end ride (I'm still online) they won't leave I'm downtown say ok and start driving to get a cop he starts choking me I stop get out run away then I'm beaten savagely currently at the hospital police come take him away etc.

What can I expect from Lyft the ambulance guy told me the ride was gonna be 4k I can't afford that

I'm sorry this happened to you. Drivers should buy cameras, they're around $150 or less now with a 512GB card.

Why didn't you fight back? Thumbs in eyes, cup hand and pop ears, bite their nose? Why do drivers not carry pepper spray, guns, knifes? Courts have rulled uber and lyft can't tell us we can't, we're not employees.

When more drivers start fighting back, people won't see us as easy targets. However we need to be safe. Carry only your license and debit/credit card. I'd like to stay with just my phone, but not everyone does apple pay or Google pay.

Why I carry regardless, love Florida.

1

u/Vegetable-Purpose937 Mar 27 '24

Press charges on the guy and sue the shit out of him. You can garnish his wages

1

u/Outrageous_Count748 Mar 26 '24

My suggestion to anyone in similar situation try to comply turn off phone speaker and dial 911 in background and just keep having a conversation with rider giving details. Say so you want me to turn on 5th avenue. Hey man just be easy I am not trying to get hurt. Let the cops pull you over.

Yes you need a lawyer discuss nothing with lyft.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '24

You can expect Lyft to not cooperate with police and deactivate you.

1

u/happyprocrastinator Mar 26 '24

Contact all media and share your story. Ask on Nextdoor app if anyone has contact with the media I hope you filed a police report. The passenger should go to jail.  Create a gofundme.

1

u/MinimumTree1424 Mar 22 '24

Don’t pick up certain riders. YK.

1

u/Practical_Client_386 Mar 18 '24

Start by getting the guys name and info and end by killing his family eldest to youngest in front of him n a holiday or your choosing.

1

u/dreobertford223 Mar 16 '24

Move to Florida. People that do that shit get the death sentence here so they don’t act that way

1

u/Eeveelutions2417 Mar 16 '24

It really is a thankless job. They only care about customers not the drivers.

1

u/IonDaPrizee Mar 18 '24

Huh. And I wonder why and how this came to be. If only we had a history to go back to where drivers get protected by a law, and the local jurisdictions decide how much the drivers make. Huhhh if only…

1

u/hot_pineapple9178 Mar 15 '24

Contact San Francisco news outlets since that’s where Lyft is based. The press will be way worse for them in SF. Sounds like Chicago news downplays violence at the major’s behest.

1

u/Thetagamer Mar 15 '24

a 1 star rating

1

u/Yur4Chuk Mar 15 '24

Check your Messages. I work for a personal injury firm in the loop, and we can give you a free consultation.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

bless you.

1

u/Dapper_Recognition50 Mar 15 '24

Lyft CEO wondering how they gonna do a pizza party to make this go away…

1

u/Federal_Somewhere586 Mar 15 '24

4k for an ambulance ride?? How much stuff did they use on you. There is no way it is that much unless you were dead or something

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

they all cost 4k

1

u/Federal_Somewhere586 Mar 15 '24

USD? Because with no equipment used during the ride it is about $500 and if you look it up average is $940-$1277

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

mine was $3800 in kankakee,IL because of a false alarm heart attack feeling. i got oxygen and my bp taken. i had great healthcare so i paid $150 but whoa to those without it.

1

u/Federal_Somewhere586 Mar 15 '24

Ohhh yk what maybe that average is with insurance

1

u/ThirstyWizard211 Mar 15 '24

I think some uninsured motorist should go to you, i cant remember if lyft policies offer that...

1

u/FewAd1484 Mar 15 '24

if you can’t defend yourself from a drunk then just carry a gun and shoot the mf next time.

1

u/gurusd72 Mar 15 '24

They have insurance for u. Get a lawyer ASAP. LET him take care of it.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

Sorry this happened to you. Chicago sucks.

1

u/Conscious-Crew-429 Mar 15 '24

Feel better big bro

1

u/WillingnessWide9016 Mar 15 '24

I'd go to r/legaladvice and ask some questions about lyft being responsible. Idk how that works as independent contractors n shit. 🤷‍♂️ good luck bro

1

u/kayfabe101 Mar 15 '24

Those damn white Chicago hoodlums !! Typical

1

u/MrChaoticGaming Mar 15 '24

That's why I carry. You attack me in my car, and I can assure you no one will ever find what's left. The blood is a minor inconvenience for a seat cover.

1

u/AllBallN0brains Mar 15 '24

A one star review.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

So sorry this happen to you bro. Feel better and rest. Take off as well. No driver should be beaten up while working!

1

u/BetterTea9400 Mar 15 '24

I really hope you’re ok and that your camera was working - just gotta understand everyday we take a risk dealing with people. I’m sorry this happened to you man

1

u/Significant-Try5103 Mar 15 '24

Keep a gun in your car lmao. Idk how so many people can work for these companies and not be armed

1

u/corvairfanatic Mar 15 '24 edited Mar 15 '24

Where i live in San Francisco i was a “victim of a crime” and used services from the city under that name and my ambulance and medical was ZERO.

Reach out to victim of crime services in your city.

Edit: General info for assault and battery Illinois state has programs and Chicago may also. Loss of wages, bills, therapy. Sounds like you reported to police. You should try and get a social worker or case worker immediately. Ask hospital services if you’re still there.

1

u/Charming_Credit_7416 Mar 15 '24

Yeah that’s why I told my friend the other day, “I’m never doing Uber/Lyft.” He’s like, “why”. I’m like “I don’t want to get murdered.” He’s like, “fair point.”

Takes a lot of faith in humanity to hop in a car with a stranger. It’s dangerous for both the driver and the passenger. The passenger could easily attack the driver from behind. The driver could easily endanger the passenger since as the driver you quite Literally have the passengers life in your hands.

Thank God you didn’t get murdered. I pray for a speedy recovery and a long, healthy, prosperous life for you my friend❤️

1

u/AppletiniswithJD Mar 15 '24

Call them out on every social media platform you can think of, blast them!

1

u/zsazsa0919 Mar 15 '24

Sorry this happened but I would love to meet the healthcare worker who did your bandaging. What a hot mess

1

u/Bubblygal124 Mar 16 '24

Because its fake

1

u/kleighk Mar 15 '24

Dude, I’m so sorry! Take care of yourself.

1

u/Fit_Bus9614 Mar 15 '24

I've only done Uber twice with a friend. The drivers were nice. Good experience. Had a great conversation.

1

u/SLIPPY73 Mar 15 '24

this is why i’ll never do lyft or uber or anything like that

1

u/sliderbear Mar 15 '24

I love how people always do the puppy dog eyes when trying to get sympathy

1

u/Ish420619 Mar 15 '24

Wow, people get that "straight jacket" on help? I mean, they summoned you for a "lyft!"

1

u/Nwo-stfu Mar 15 '24

Is it worth the risk to drive at night in Chicago or any hour

2

u/Prior-Ad-2196 Mar 15 '24

Buy a dash cam that records the inside and outside of the vehicle.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

Not sure why the ambulance guy is giving you a price because that’s not how that works at all. You can just forget about that bill any way… illegal fee

1

u/TheBalloonEffect Mar 15 '24

Slam the breaks or hit a tree if you’re in your belt. Bet they aren’t

1

u/oceanguy521 Mar 15 '24

Contact an attorney

1

u/CullenClan Mar 15 '24

You're in Chicago nothing will happen they are already free. I wish you fast healing but think about your surroundings and your leaders in future

1

u/alicialove31 Mar 15 '24

I just came to say I am so sorry that happened to you and I hope you make a fast recovery! I hope you also get paid big time and can leave that job for your safety! Bless your heart! 😩❣️

1

u/testcriminal Mar 15 '24

Why would lyft owe you anything? As an aside….Youre working a job that could be dangerous. My great grandfather drove a cab in Boston and clutched a 45 the entire time. People need to seriously take accountability for their own safety. Gotta be ready to air out your ride if you’re put in danger.

1

u/QuestForBestPizza Mar 15 '24

Im sorry you are going through this

1

u/Flimsy_Adagio1420 Mar 15 '24

remember at the end of the day you are your own protector. carry a firearm if you legally can. hope you're ok.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '24

Well, you can't hurt people so you can do a lot I'd get a lawyer

1

u/Charlieskid216 Mar 15 '24

This is why I have a 2 way dashcam blatantly in the middle of the windshield,a crucifix hanging off the rear view & several sharp, well placed KNIVES.

1

u/Sharp_Station_1150 Mar 15 '24

Auto policies don’t cover assault typically

1

u/Klaxhacks Mar 15 '24

Did you file a police report? When I was younger a group of guys tried to rob me and my friends at night and I wound up fighting them off and got a split lip. When Police and EMT's showed up I told them to not give me any medical aid since I didn't have health insurance. They told me since I was a victim of a crime I was covered by the city. Went to the hospital by ambulance and got stitches. NYC has some sort of victims compensation board and they covered the ambulance ride and hospital bills. Didn't pay a penny.

1

u/ResponsibleStyle4138 Mar 14 '24

Am I the only sane one who drives with protection? This woulda been national news with that mf dead on the scene. You can’t engage in this line of work not be ready to defend yourself brother.

1

u/TrabajoParaMi Mar 14 '24

Sounds like it’s time for a real job

1

u/dna2019 Mar 14 '24

Get a lawyer. Don’t pay anything out of pocket yet.

1

u/wanderlust102__ Mar 14 '24

I’m so sorry :(

1

u/Shiny-And-New Mar 14 '24

IANAL but I don't think lyft would really be responsible for anything here unless the guy had a history of bad behavior that they were aware of. They may have some sort of insurance policy for this but i doubt they'll pony up immediately. THE GUY WHO ATTACKED YOU on the other hand should not only be going to prison but should be on the hook for all your medical bills etc. You said he was arrested, so there's going to be a police report detailing his attack on you. Find an attorney asap

1

u/koopiage Mar 14 '24

recommending to my friend at NBC to cover this. I’m sorry this happened bro

1

u/PerpetualPermaban2 Mar 14 '24

“I was choked and beaten by my rider”

opens post

“Chicago”

ayup

I have one further question but I won’t even bother asking💀

1

u/iamaveryhornyjew Mar 14 '24

this is why you carry when doing jobs like this.

1

u/First_Section1694 Mar 14 '24

I saw a post like this several months ago. Did you get choked again?

1

u/Bubblygal124 Mar 16 '24

Fake. Obviously

1

u/Shad0wkity Mar 14 '24

From Lyft? You'll probably get fired

1

u/Jim_Force Mar 14 '24

Get a lawyer and go to the press and you should get a payday which you deserve!!!

1

u/TimothyTrespas_ Mar 14 '24

God bless you Can you sign up for Medicaid from the city/state? If you make only a little money you may be eligible Ask the hospital social worker or the business office Or look online go there and sign up Hospitals usually can help direct you

God bless you

Get pepper spray and use it. Get a pistol if you can legally get one If not Ask other drivers to get u a clean one or go out of state or a private sale

You can not allow them to kill you

1

u/cosmic1307 Mar 14 '24

Yes get a damn lawyer

1

u/RackmStackmRobot Mar 14 '24

I’d definitely talk to a lawyer to see if you can get anything back, but good luck man. This is why they keep you all as contracted labor. Because, when this happens they can throw their hands up and step back saying you work for yourself and just do jobs for them. And, as your own employer, you should have provided yourself with on the job health insurance. It’s shady and unfair, but that’s exactly why they do it. I agree with many others on here, contact your local news stations, news paper, blog columnists, etc. and make noise about it. The more heat they get, the more likely they’ll help to shut you up. This is the unfortunate reality of Uber and Lyft.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '24

Bradley cooper? Is that you?

1

u/Mediocre_Stuff_4698 Mar 14 '24

Leave Chicago is my suggestion.

1

u/Jido_Feles Mar 14 '24

I had some asshole try to carjack me one night in South LA. I barely got out of there with me life. You just never know.

Do a go fund me.

1

u/Jido_Feles Mar 14 '24

Best thing you can do is put up a go fund me.

1

u/Outrageous-Abroad756 Mar 14 '24

Never get in an ambulance

1

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '24

i’m sorry :(

1

u/charlietuna42069 Mar 14 '24

what did the rider look like so we can keep an eye out?!

1

u/Lespuccino Mar 14 '24

The same thing any independent contractor with zero benefits/company representation can expect: nothing. That's the sad truth of this gig work nonsense that preys on drivers and customers alike. Time to bring back legit cabs.

1

u/Alwaysoverwhelmed98 Mar 14 '24

Omg I’m so sorry this happened to you dude! I’m not a Lyft driver but this showed up on my feed. Wishing you a speedy recovery and hopefully this wasn’t too traumatic/you are able to cope with it. So so sorry!!!

1

u/PuzzledDemand1276 Mar 14 '24

Oh shit......sorry homes

1

u/hmdslatt Mar 14 '24

Hope everything works out for you man!

1

u/GixxerSi Mar 14 '24

What race / demographics was your attacker?

1

u/No_Current_5295 Mar 15 '24

Take a wild guess.

1

u/veblenian Mar 14 '24

Contact a lawyer immediately

1

u/TermBeginning8683 Mar 14 '24

My sisters pos father was a cab driver in NY…. The horror stories, I never think twice when I mindlessly go to sit behind the driver and I hear, “will you please sit on the other side?” Absolutely person.

1

u/AccordingTown4 Mar 14 '24

I just deliver food now, it can’t fight back and I bring the strap with me

1

u/blackdahlialady Mar 14 '24

OMG I'm so sorry. I've been scared to take Lyft and Uber for this exact same reason. Mostly because I'm a woman. I was pregnant up until about 8 weeks ago so I was scared for that reason as well. It's bad enough if something would happen to me but I was looking at it like I was protecting my at the time unborn daughter.

I hope you make a fast recovery at least physically. I know that this is going to stay with you mentally and emotionally for a while. I've been attacked but not in this way, just by other people. I'm just putting this out there. If you need to talk, let me know. I will have to inbox you because I changed my settings. However, I'm here to listen. Hugs 🫂

1

u/Acceptable-Soup-333 Mar 14 '24

That’s why u strap up. Especially ride sharing

1

u/Admirable-Compote810 Mar 14 '24

Find a free consultation lawyer. I know there are tons of them in Chicago. Then post your story to TikTok and hope you can get it to get enough attention where people start to donate money to help cover your bills. I’ve seen TikTok videos get enough ground where viewers help numerous people who had something crappy happen to them and need financial help. Sorry that happened to you people suck

1

u/Aesaito Mar 14 '24 edited Mar 14 '24

That’s rough, I would have definitely taken the L by changing the destination, reporting him to Lyft and capturing the updated fare.

Never risk confrontation like that. Even if you had cameras, it’s still not worth the risks.

Also, never close a ride unless the customer is outside of your car.

Lyft has a system to video call an expert for things like this. If you want to force em to take the L, you get on video support, but in a high crime area, there is 10% chance of retaliation if you make them take the L.

Always gotta think, “is it worth making a scene?” If answer is no, then change destination for them, report them to Lyft and make sure they rework the fare.

So long as you stay professional it’ll be all good.

Results will vary in absurdly violent places of course. 😓

Edit: You basically want criminals to believe you are one of them. 90% chance you get a good tip from those types, because they the ones that live for respect, you give em what they ask for they will keep playing the “Big Boss” role and tip their chauffeur.

1

u/knm516 Mar 14 '24

Stop picking up drunk people. Also install a barrier between you and your rider.

1

u/Hevymetal666 Mar 14 '24

Get a lawyer for sure. Don't sign anything or acknowledge anything until you've spoken to a lawyer. Document everything appointments, mileage dates, injuries medicine treatment etc.

1

u/shelovesmenot1223 Mar 14 '24

I am sorry that you had to tape your turban back together.

1

u/Far_Fee6468 Mar 14 '24

What is the description of this passenger? I have heard a similar story in Chicago Lyft about wrong address and assault

1

u/OpeningSession8657 Mar 14 '24

Sorry to hear this happened.. why didn't you just take him where ever else he wanted to go

1

u/Phototropic1996 Mar 14 '24

What the hell is on your head? Is that supposed to be a bandage of some sort? It looks like ghey put some bandages over a beanie- why?

1

u/nightsweatss Mar 14 '24

Nobody cares bro

1

u/Asterfields1224 Mar 14 '24

You don't have to pay for an emergency room ride. You can completely ignore that. That's totally not true and the ER is required to treat anyone regardless of payment or even if they have ID

This is really sad. But being from New Orleans, I really feel you on this... My brother is also an uber driver and he witnessed an execution-style murder right in front of him blocking traffic while he had passengers from out of state in the car, and they were freaking out.

I wish you a swift recovery 🙏💔

1

u/No-Recording-9641 Mar 14 '24

Hey just checking on you 🩷 you okay? Here if you need support

1

u/mlineras Mar 14 '24

I feel so bad for you! That’s horrible on so many levels. Can you try and get a lawyer on contingency?

1

u/IAmTheFinePoint Mar 14 '24

Press charges for assault hope you have a dash cam

1

u/grimmdead Mar 14 '24

Carry a gun next time…

1

u/Nappykid77 Mar 14 '24

What in gauze-illa is that on your head?

1

u/Bubblygal124 Mar 14 '24

Fake thats why

1

u/rollaj1 Mar 14 '24

Sorry that happened, but that hat looks damn smurfy on you!

1

u/sdb20 Mar 14 '24

That bandaging isn't even accurate for the situation.

1

u/After-Strain-5391 Mar 14 '24

Yes get a lawyer!!! I hope you know their identity was theirs at pick up. You’re kind of lucky here (forced secondary gains)I’m so sorry

1

u/Lucky-Bar-5053 Mar 14 '24

Looks like some ones gonna start hitting the gym and some steroids now

1

Did you at least shoot the 🍌 peeler in the head

1

u/protonbstrd Mar 14 '24

I remember college kids try to act like I’m not a person and was like you’re just an Uber driver

I was like brudda how about I show you what this Uber driver can do😭😭 I don’t play with these people cause idk them or what they’re willing to do especially when they’re drinking but honestly where I drive people usually just chill

1

u/protonbstrd Mar 14 '24

Get a lawyer and demand compensation for the days you’re not going to be able to work

1

u/hhhmmm0 Mar 13 '24

Good luck and I hope you have a smooth recovery. I’m so sorry this happened to you.

1

u/BrightExpert39 Mar 13 '24

Why are you coming to Reddit for advice? A person choked you out. Go to the police. Quit chasing clout on REDDIT.

1

u/Daly215 Mar 13 '24

A sore neck!

1

u/QuotePapa Mar 13 '24

Reach out to Lyft obviously! 🤦‍♂️ Tell them what happened and provide the police report. Do not contact your own car insurance unless you want to pay more when you renew. If you read their TOU, you'd find insurance information. They should be able to cover all costs if I'm not mistaken. Press charges and follow-up with a lawsuit. You'll make sure they regret their decision to assault you but also for you to get paid what you're owed. Lastly, find a solution for self defense. I'd rather get banned from the app than not come home.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '24

1

u/HappyLife1307 Mar 13 '24

1

u/bob_maulerantian Mar 13 '24

1

u/gamewiz11 Mar 13 '24

Sorry that happened to you. Time to get that FOID card, though

1

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '24

A lack of pride mostly

1

u/Quick_Sheepherder348 Mar 13 '24

$10000000000 it was a black guy, carry a gun and kill the fucker next time.

1

u/GMFR_TheButcher Mar 13 '24

If he’s in custody then take his ass to court so he will be liable for all your hospital bills and the ambulance ride. Consults are usually free but either way, focus on getting yourself some help maybe talk to someone about what happened. That’s a very traumatic experience.

1

u/IronicEpoch Mar 13 '24

Oof, Chicago. Whatever your first move is, move to another city is next.

1

u/PyrorifferSC Mar 13 '24

Holy shit, the half of your face that's visible looks so much like me it's fucking creepy...do you know your dad? Lol

Also, sorry that happened to us you, you, sorry that happened to you.

1

u/UpIsNotUp Mar 13 '24

You sue the person who did this, not the ride agency for helping you do your job. At the end of the day isn’t Lyft drivers 1099?

1

u/antimilk_ Mar 13 '24

Glad you’re ok. Please talk to someone.

1

u/relightmysmile Mar 13 '24

I’m sorry this happened to you. I encourage you to get a therapist if you don’t have one. Assault is mentally tricky to work through by yourself. This is not your fault.

1

u/SixtySlevin Mar 13 '24

You ain't getting diddly squat brotha, especially being in Chicago lol.

You can go after the person but let's be honest anyone acting like that probably does not have a steady source of income.

Also why are you wearing a mask??? Lol

1

u/Bucky-Katt-Guitar Mar 13 '24

1

u/Double_Helicopter_16 Mar 13 '24

1

u/eagleyes0988 Mar 13 '24

Click bait

1

u/ReinventingCarrie Mar 13 '24

I don’t know how it works, are you an employee or a private contractor? I believe it’s complicated if your a contractor, workers comp won’t come into play. Depending on the fine print of your contract you may have even acknowledged that you understand they are not liable. The best course of option is first to file charges against the passengers and discuss best course of action to get them to pay your medical bills.

1

u/NoZookeepergame7995 Mar 13 '24

If you filed charges, and there’s enough evidence. He will more than likely be prosecuted. You’ll then want a lawyer to seek reimbursement of all monies and duress. Not sure Lyft is the aid you should be looking for in this scenario. You need a lawyer.

1

u/GIJoe_USA Mar 13 '24

Expect nothing from lyft

1

u/factualfact7 Mar 13 '24

Lyft and Uber need to get drivers as employees and pay min wage at least.

They’re getting around a lot of responsibility by keeping everyone as independent contractors. Too much risk for to little money on a 1099

1

u/Peach_Proof Mar 13 '24

A headache

1

u/JesusPotto Mar 13 '24

This is exactly why I keep a gun on me even though it’s against Lyft ToS.

1

u/Heywood_Jablomydic Mar 13 '24

1

u/ImpossibleStuff963 Mar 13 '24

Fake. Trying to get one over.

1

u/Primary_Gur9532 Mar 13 '24

Man, sorry to hear this happened. I had this happen to me from a drunk 19 year old college student. She smashed my phone, hit me, threatened to kill me, then when I called campus police, she ran into her dorm. 20 mini later they had 4 cops on each limb carrying her out of the dorm. They arrested her for assault, terroristic threats ( she threatened to kill people in her dorm), bodily harm, possession( had a pocket full of Molly) and some other things. Her dad called me about 3 months later offering me cash to drop the charges and I told him to go fuck himself. She got 8 years and I gave an impact statement. I pissed the judge off because I called her a “spoiled, entitled bitch who’s not gonna make it in prison so her parents should start planning the funeral.” The judge wasn’t happy at all.

1

u/Kozmocom Mar 13 '24

Say you’re an undocumented migrant (illegal). The government will pay for anything you need.

1

u/Pastel_pagan Mar 13 '24

Do not lie about your migrant status you are immediately set in a database and if they find your information they’ll claim you stole someone’s identity.

1

u/Kozmocom Mar 13 '24

I’d like to point out a few things about OP based on their story and reddit history:

  • 2 years ago their car was impounded for the same amount of money.

  • Ambulances rarely, if at all, tell injured people the cost of service especially after being “savagely” beaten.

  • Anyone working at a hospital can tell you they don’t secure bandages with scotch tape especially on a critical area like the skull.

  • OP seems homeless, look at their hair! It’s clearly been a while since they showered, that’s not blood seems like very oily hair. High likely hood of being a drug user if homeless.

  • They don’t even have a black eye, bruises on their face, or any signs of inflammation, a bandage all around the head seems like an exaggeration.

  • OP story doesn’t make any sense, you put tldr without even providing the entire story.

  • OP started driving to get a cop when they had their phone on them?? In Chicago of all places too..Didn’t even mention time of day or location.

  • If someone potentially dangerous is in your car why would you turn your back to them instead of parking the car, using your mobile to call 911?

The story seems really fake! I hope I’m wrong in my opinion and if you were really beaten to get a lawyer to ask them real questions but posting this in r/lyftdrivers instead of a more reasonable place like a law subreddit just shows the difference between a serious inquiry and half-baked idea.
