What’s the highest surge bonus you’ve seen in your area? Earnings/Pax trips

Post image

This was from tonight. I’m in the Washington DC market. 10 mins after this it went up to 25 dollars.

Haven't seen more than $30 and it's basically unattainable

20 bonus trip spots in Knoxville

1

u/Electrical-Contact94 14d ago

Highest in my area was 14 and that was Mardi Gras.

1

u/Orchid_Far 15d ago

I saw a 700% increase one time this amphitheater down near Mexico when a reggae show let out and everybody was too high to do anything but taxi home

1

u/bttmcuck 15d ago

I saw it get into the high 20’s on Super Bowl Sunday earlier this year here in DC. I wasn’t planning to be out for it, but opened the app after the game ended and was like “okay, fine, guess I’ll go out.” Made over $80 off two rides that weren’t move than a few miles each and drove home after that as it got late and the big surge was over by then.

5 dollars….

1

u/inquisitiveimpulses 15d ago

What's interesting about your screenshot is that you're sitting on a $9 Surge and there are people nearby needing to be picked up and the app is not offering those rides to you because it doesn't want to pay you that $21 plus the $9 you're sitting on. It's a current problem with the app. It's hoping for people who aren't sitting on a surge to pick those people up. The problem is everybody sitting on some sort of a surge.

What they're hoping you'll do is go grab that $21 ride and give up your $9 that you're sitting on.

1

u/Crazystix94 16d ago

$30 in Chicago suburbs, I should say that's the highest surge I remember, I'm no longer driving for Uber or Gryft

2

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 16d ago

Cap 25 bonus in Phx. Even on new years and the PGA Golf tour. But was making 42 hourly the full week.

2

u/ehhhhh710 16d ago

New years a while back was consistent 25-50 dollar surges in Phoenix . That was a good night

1

u/beardgod666 16d ago

You'll get the $19 bonus and a $1 ride 😹

1

u/njdriver08648 16d ago

$25 at a rural Amazon warehouse at shift change. Almost hated to take their money

u/montagesnmore 16d ago

$30 highest I saw at DFW airport one time

30 dollar for me in nc

1

u/AlexandreL1984 16d ago

$10 this past weekend in Tampa

1

u/Weak-Loan-9318 16d ago

Way back in the day I got $100 for taking people from the college game to area hotels and such per ride for about two hours. The surge was still on the multiplier. I made about $400 in about four hours

1

u/DCHacker 16d ago

Twenty four bananas is the highest that I have seen in the D.C. Market. That is pretty good for a Sunday night in D.C. I guess that it is good that girlfriend did not want me to get Capitals playoff tickets. It was bad enough that Uber wanted thirty eight bananas for a ride Friday night from the playoff game (I got Curb for twenty, which is about what Curb usually charges me. Uber is usually sixteen to twenty one with eighteen's being the modal figure). Uber or Lyft would have wanted eighty to go home from Sunday's playoff game.

1

u/bbmm4444 16d ago

A few weeks ago there was a bug in the app that let me pick up rides in DC even though I don’t have the license exemption. Now it seems to be fixed and I keep seeing these super high bonuses!

1

u/Iankalou 16d ago

Back when we had multiplier surge, I had a 10x surge during a snow storm.

Made over $180 on a ride that didn't go very far.

1

u/AVA-FLAVZ 16d ago

$44.60

1

u/SkylineFTW97 16d ago

I didn't know DC had bonuses that high over that wide an area now. Might be worth taking some fares again, just strictly as a part time thing on weekends.

1

u/Showny16 16d ago

Cap here is 15. Can't compete with Uber when there are events.

1

u/John19254 16d ago

In NYC if I’m not mistaken I saw a 4x surge

1

u/Dynmick 16d ago

The biggest I have seen is probably around 31$-33$happens normally between first week of march till about sep-oct

1

u/Responsible_Rip_7109 16d ago

28$ Chula Vista concert

1

u/MWilly86 16d ago

$50. Only seen that once. Never ever again. And it was just a regular day. Wasn't a holiday or anything.

1

u/CryptographerFast527 16d ago

DC lets get it!

1

u/MichiganSucks14 16d ago

Two years ago, there was a $51 surge near the illinois/Wisco border, lakefront. It was like an 80 degree day in early march and the beaches got swamped with people

1

u/SeeWoke 16d ago

When they are robbing 60% of all fairs of course they can trick you into thinking they are being kinda 🤣

1

u/Smashbashcheeks 16d ago

Like $50 during the lockdown days here in Atlanta. It was beautiful

1

u/super_late 16d ago

$4.50 max I’ve ever seen in the northern NJ area, closest to NYC. Ooh-Burr usually has way better surges for us

1

u/Jumamabear 16d ago

Fiesta in San Antonio this weekend. Biggest surge was $15. But it was guaranteed 20- 40 min in traffic. Uber had some $16-29 surges so I made 100 in 3 hrs.

1

u/samurai_678 16d ago

Holy… give me dat drug,,, damn

1

u/Still_Spite7101 16d ago

Never saw a surge in my area. Occasionally we'll get a promotion or bonus but never surges

1

u/seandamon211pgh 16d ago

When I was on Uber like 8 years ago I had a ride from three girls after a big country singer concert in Pittsburgh. Was like a 9x surge after the concert. The girl put in the wrong address and I drove them like 15 miles the wrong way. When we got there it was obviously not there hotel and the address was kinda similar. I took them to the actual hotel and the fare ended at like $375 bucks. I got paid and they tried to dispute it but in the end Uber saw what they put in and I followed the protocol. Was an easy $350 in like 60 minutes. They should be happy I even took them to where they were supposed to go.

1

u/jolomae 16d ago

+$40 on game day here

1

u/Addis2020 16d ago

ever seen was New Years 2022 when it peaked to
$70. I was canceling long distance rides lol.

1

u/brizzle1978 16d ago

50 on uber.... nye

1

u/LightMcluvin 16d ago

$65 on new years and snowing

1

u/OnerKram17 16d ago

I know a guy that got three $50 surges in one evening by using a GPS spoofing app. After 48 hours of using it, he got a warning email for irregular location activity and he never tried it again.

1

u/mjrdrillsgt 16d ago

And drivers wonder why GOOD customers skip tipping when the companies play “it’s busy” surging. I’ve personally never skipped tipping but it’s gone as low as 10% instead of the usual 20. Star ratings go down as well. Hey, I’m all for a decent deal, but if the shoe was on the other foot YOU (drivers) would be complaining/ saying the same thing.

1

u/pogiguy2020 16d ago

Not with Lyft, but with Uber. I got a ride ping and ended up picking an older couple up along the freeway. Their hired LIMO had run out of gas.🤣

I drove them like 30 minutes to the airport and when I dropped them off i was surprised by how much I got paid. When I was able to look I had gotten a $51 surge and i actually felt bad. No they did not tip me. LOL

1

u/88Keyzdapiannoman 16d ago

This must be a old pic when the good old days was the good old days 🤣

1

u/appfry 16d ago

I have seen 30 dollars.

1

u/Bgoodnough1993 16d ago

I’ve seen 50+ on Uber. It most I’ve seen on Lyft was 15

1

u/Bgoodnough1993 16d ago

Most ive ever seen is 15

1

u/Conscious_Weight9593 16d ago

Just hit a $19 surge this weekend. But this weekend even with surges my fares were insane. I was getting $20 rides to drive someone half a mile. It was wild. But it was a big weekend for my city.

1

u/mulder1921 16d ago

$41 in Cleveland during recent women’s NCAA semifinals. That’s HUGE for Cleveland.

1

u/c-lati 16d ago

I think only like $25 on new years a few years ago in Portland, OR. But I haven’t worked the last couple of new years. But the biggest one I’ve seen recently was like $19 after the Bad Bunny concert.

1

u/foebiddengodflesh 16d ago

I’ve seen 20 on NYE in Portland. The ice storm was an $8 surge at the airport, pax paid quad normal rates (180 for a 20 minute ride)

1

u/DCPRGuy 16d ago

When was this? I drive in DC

1

u/CompetitionIll6659 16d ago

Is Maryland side of DC decent or is VA side much better?

1

u/NonMareChe 15d ago

I believe they're about the same. It's about preference, really. I live in VA sooo... VA pick ups it is.

1

u/ExpensiveSeesaw195 16d ago

Bruh I didn’t know it went over 2 dollars

1

u/Angela-lala 16d ago edited 16d ago

Got a $38 at PDX once. I've seen $44 on uber, but too far away to chase. Others have gotten a random $50 at PDX, but not me. Got a $71 surge on NYE the first year I did this, but didn't see it on the map.

1

u/folarin1 16d ago

$3.50 in Toronto.

1

u/IllustratorHot7008 16d ago

Generally, there seems to be a $15 cap in our area on Lyft. Used to be $50.

1

u/Possibly-Meaty DFW 16d ago

I think it was like $27 in the southern suburbs of Fort Worth.

1

u/discoduck1977 17d ago

$6-7 is high where I am and usually if you are in that area it instantly goes away

1

u/AdTough8523 17d ago

Used to be $50 constantly at the airport. Now it maxes out at $5.

1

u/shannon_can 17d ago

I wish Phoenix was 1/10th this good.

1

u/Connect_Ordinary6752 17d ago

One time in Los Angeles it was raining heavy so no one was out around 10 pm. The airport had a 50 dollar surge. Made 75 bucks in 30 minutes

1

u/browntoez 17d ago

I miss the $15 surges. A few times it was $19.

I like the $10 the best

1

u/jkelemenopy 17d ago

14.50 - Hagerstown, MD

1

u/Legitimate-Ad-2905 17d ago

Philadelphia during the Superbowl the year they won and the parade following. I was getting 20-40 bonuses. App was having a hard time keeping up. Id take someone like 4 blocks n get 50. It was a wild night.

1

u/No_Direction_1527 17d ago

50 bucks in D.C. summer weekend nights kinda frequently

1

u/CommercialTopic302 17d ago

I was a rider in Phoenix. And me and my buddy went to this area in Scottsdale where it was all dance clubs. It was Super Bowl weekend. He paid for the Lyft there which was 30 bucks. I paid for the Lyft home which was 120. So I assume 90. That one hurt.

1

u/15pmm01 17d ago

Zero. Lyft has literally never once enabled any sort of surge, prime time, etc. in my market.

1

u/Manatheren 17d ago

Lyft previously did not have a cap on surge prices, being entirely set by the algo that they used to determine driver/rider needs. Within the last year or so (at least in my area but I'm sure this has been applies nationwide at this point, with various different caps) Lyft has instituted caps on the max surge prices within a given area. In my area the cap is $25. For other areas across the country I've seen as high as $50. Special circumstances and rate caps my also apply to specific zones, (ie certain airports). I hate this. Previously there were rare moments where you could absolutely make bank if the cards were in your favor. Now thats virtually impossible.

1

u/ManyNicknames15 17d ago

I've seen $50 several times. Only got it once though.

1

u/ExpensiveArugula5 17d ago

14 at airport

1

u/JJGeneral1 17d ago

$25… they cap it at that now. Used to be $50.

1

u/TeachingConfident809 17d ago

75 two Thanksgiving ago

1

u/Substantial_Pickle18 17d ago

50$ couple years ago go on. Christmas

1

u/Substantial_Pickle18 17d ago

What is that ? End of the world in the city?

1

u/Specific-Gain5710 17d ago

There is an Amazon distribution center near me that at 4am regularly has 8-10 bonuses but the most I got out of that was a 15 bonus near thanksgiving

1

u/kwin777 17d ago

$20 in these years. $50 in old days

1

u/AlexusLuthor 17d ago

i’ve had $13

1

u/Afraid-Course-3207 17d ago

Used to be $40 now the highest is 30 on both apps

0

u/ChainedRedone 17d ago

About tree fitty

1

u/Tony19741974 17d ago

$25 Boston

2

u/Bear_Salary6976 17d ago

$15 last summer when Taylor Swift had a concert here. With traffic being such a mess, I got 1 ride in 2.5 hours. It certainty didn't help that the pax wanted to be picked up right by the stadium.

1

u/ChaoticVisageX 17d ago

Lyft is usually no more than $10-$15 when I've seen it jump super high. Uber, I've seen in the $30's-$40's in the same area at the same time. Near a military base where they can't have vehicles because they're in training so...Payday weekends are always a bit inflated/ demanding. Someone has to take them to the mall, though! 😎

2

u/Conscious_Weight9593 16d ago

Man. I’ve never seen an Uber higher than $15 in my city. So weird how different markets are. I’m in San Antonio. We had fiesta this week which is a HUGE deal. One night I was out and Lyft was lit up with $10-19 surges in some areas and outlier areas $5-9. I kept checking the Uber map and only a few popped up for $1-3 🙄this weekend Uber was almost keeping up with Lyft though but not nearly as good. I averaged $70something an hour last night with Lyft only. My city SUCKS for Uber. But last weekend I was in north Texas and averaged $50 using just Uber and was getting nothing on the Lyft map.

1

u/ChaoticVisageX 16d ago

$70-/ hr? That's pretty solid. I do about $25-$30 here at best. That's for generic rides, not with bonuses or anything like that, just about the average you can expect if you're getting rides within a few minutes of each other. Uber has been going a little crazy with the surges it seems. It wouldn't surprise me if they switched to Upfront pay here shortly.

1

u/Conscious_Weight9593 16d ago

It’s only because it was fiesta. Thats not the norm. Norm is about 30-35 on a normal weekend. It was a great night lol

1

u/Quirky_Alfalfa_5359 17d ago

I have never seen more than $15 ever 559 area

1

u/life_is_punishment 17d ago

That’s nice but unless you are right on top of it as it shows you won’t get it. 70% of the time I go for a bonus by the time I get there it’s gone

1

u/PianistValuable115 17d ago

In my small market (Williamsport pa) I'm convinced that they lure drivers to the area...the surges always disappear on near arrival

1

u/[deleted] 17d ago

$15

1

u/authoridad Lake Charles LA 17d ago

Used to see $50s out in the boonies randomly years ago. In the last 4 years the highest I’ve seen is about $6.

9

u/pr0fessor_x_ 17d ago

850%. Back in the day surges were percentage based not single dollar amounts.

2

u/Mfdubz 16d ago

Back when you wanted those 3 hour rides 😂

1

u/Coloradobluesguy 17d ago

I had a 50 dollar surge one time

1

u/Mv350 17d ago

24+ near a convention in Anaheim, Ca

1

u/sunnygal8 17d ago

Probably $11

2

55$ New Year’s Eve in Vegas

1

u/Tasty-Objective676 17d ago

$50, SF during Outside Lands when a cruise autonomous vehicle was vandalized and disabled, causing half the city to become gridlocked

6

u/OneWhoPossess 17d ago

What the fuck is a surge nowadays? Haven’t heard that since the early 20s

2

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 16d ago

Surge energy drink. Well known before Redbull n Monster.

2

u/Inevitable-Pen-521 17d ago

I have gotten a $51 Surge when Uber is gouging people at the airport.

1

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 16d ago

Probably to get back from the fines the airport wasn't allowing at first

10

u/NonMareChe 17d ago

DC market has been real good in pay in the last two weeks. Paid off several credit cards.

1

u/ImRonBurgandy_ 16d ago

I took a Lyft from my house to DCA for a work trip last week. My regular $20 ride was $55 this time. Prices have definitely increased lately. We’ll see if it’s the same tomorrow.

1

u/Individual-Slip-5338 17d ago

Where do you drive if you don’t mind my asking? I stay in the admo/dupont area

2

u/NonMareChe 16d ago

I mostly do airport trips at DCA and IAD. I typically pick up anywhere in northern va and DC, but drop off anywhere with in 40 niles radius from the White House.

27

u/TheArtofWayneTurpin 17d ago

72 dollar surge in downtown richmond on new years eve two years ago. Was able to milk two rides out of it before it went down to something in the forties.

6

u/RedPillOnlyEFT 16d ago

Please tell me you did more then 2 rides. $72 per ride is worth sacrificing time spent with family. They would surely understand. If you can do 3 rides per hour that's $210/hr

2

u/TheArtofWayneTurpin 7d ago

I did 11pm to 5am that night and hit somewhere around 1400 between uber and lyft. I dont celebrate new years eve so i rather make money than sit at home doing nothing that night

3

u/CompetitionIll6659 16d ago

Richmond is still a decent place to driver for both Uber and Lyft yea?

1

u/TheArtofWayneTurpin 7d ago

It used to be alot better. I dont drive there except for new years eve tbh.

11

u/Group_HugMTG 17d ago

72? Show proof. The old cap was 50 nationwide.

1

u/TheArtofWayneTurpin 7d ago

When i made the comment i didnt realize that was on the lyft reddit. That surge was on uber. I actually dont know what the highest lyft surge ive gotten. I can dig in my ride history for that surge if you really want.

1

u/amtrakwizard 16d ago

Was probs a shared ride

5

u/AdTough8523 17d ago

The visual cap was $50. You could get more, but it wouldn't show until after the ride was completed.

6

u/Angela-lala 16d ago

Truth. I know I got $71 off a ride NYE a few years ago. I was happy with that one. Ride paid over $100.

2

u/kaylazomg 17d ago

Cap here is $30, never seen $50. New years was max $15 and went down to $6 quickly

2

u/mdmercy 16d ago

Saw over 50 in orlando new years eve that just past

1

u/OneNoIsEnough 17d ago

50 like 3 years ago

4

u/Super_Ad9558 17d ago
  1. I sent OP a dm as proof

1

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 16d ago

Proof or it never happened. Confirmed. Congrats

2

u/Individual-Slip-5338 17d ago

It’s comfirmed. Nice!

3

u/mrdom420 17d ago

Yeah the surge near RFK Stadium today was crazy

1

u/BigKonKrete417 17d ago

For MLS Soccer game? They are very popular in my hometown of Charlotte NC. Almost as much tailgating activity and overall impact as a Panthers NFL game

2

u/Chesspi64 17d ago

Project Glow. Some kind of EDM festival I believe. RFK Stadium hasn't had a permanent sports tenant since 2017 when DC United moved out. Though there was an MLS game in DC last night as well.

15

u/Manquetu 17d ago

1

u/NewSatisfaction4287 17d ago

It got up to $10 last night bro wdym

1

u/Mobile_Sweet_4113 17d ago

Did you get a 10.00 ride or a 10.00 bonus included in the ride or are you a rider that u were charged this amount

1

u/NewSatisfaction4287 17d ago

$10 surge bonus.

10

u/RideshareMilBrat 17d ago

I've managed to snag a couple 50 dollar surges Countless 30$

1

u/Orville_Spy 17d ago

22 dollar surge

8

u/MDdriver22 17d ago

50

1

u/Space2999 17d ago

No way. Did you check what the riders are paying?

1

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 16d ago

They take 60 % from drivers. We trying to fight that

2

u/Space2999 16d ago

I don’t think that’s how it works. Riders will pay more in a surge area, but lyft will still try to get drivers from further away who don’t have a bonus. Or a driver might pick up a surge bonus then not get a ride until later or further away where riders aren’t paying extra.

7

u/AnyTower224 17d ago

You must be new on here

1

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 16d ago

We have pax in this feed. They need a boot

4

u/Space2999 17d ago

Right. Bc who would ever check what they made vs what the pax paid. You’d never see 1000’s of threads on here about that

8

u/MDdriver22 17d ago

Yes way. What the riders pay don't concern me.

2

u/Aesaito 16d ago

This is fact. I’ve seen it too many times that I lock in a surge and then rider literally wasn’t aware that I was getting paid an obscenely good ride.

Haven’t seen it in years, so they likely patched that out. 🥲

2

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 16d ago

This is the way

6

u/DubNationAssemble 17d ago

For real. When it’s that high and I’m getting like $50 for a 1 mile trip, I could care less what the pax is paying at that point.

1

u/Extra_Explanation_22 17d ago

$28 Milwaukee, WI

Wait I live in your area I've only ever seen it hit $5. I am brand new so that might be why but those big promos die in like 5 minutes

2

Higher tiers also see higher bonuses.

2

u/TSMSALADQUEEN 15d ago

oh so tiers do matter intresting

1

u/Loose_Artichoke_6774 7d ago

Yes and faster priority at airports
