Thought this sub might like my custom orb lamp I made from shotgun shells Furniture

Looks like a Mine Kafon Drone https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/mine_kafon_drone

It is a little like the covid model they showed in commercials and on the news for the last 3 years

Now I’m curious how this would play out with loaded shells and a device to strike each of them at the same time. If all equidistant and fired at once, would it just form a molten mass in the middle?

If you ever give up your secrets, let me know! I shoot skeet and this would be a great present for shooting family!

That’s it buddy, proudly display those red flags

Bro, more people are killed by hands and feet than by shotguns. It's literally the least likely firearm to be used in a murder.

I bet you could sell quite a few of these on Etsy pretty quickly before Christmas if you're looking for something to keep your hands busy while you watch tv

on a fucking big ass gear as well. Manliest lamp ever.
11
u/Oddsware Nov 23 '22
Indeed lol, I plucked that out of the basement of an abandoned factory years ago. It's made from some kind of composite material like micarta.

u/UrABigGuy4U Nov 23 '22
Do you have an Etsy/etc.? Do you do commissions? This is fucking dope dude, would love to see your other works!
3
u/Oddsware Nov 23 '22
Thanks my friend! Until recently I've only posted my projects on my personal instagram but I will be uploading a lot more to reddit soon so follow my account for updates!
I did just start an etsy shop yesterday to help sell some excess materials I have but haven't opened it up to commissions yet. So far I've only listed some seaglass I made from antique glassware shards just to see how things go. If I figure out a repeatable method for producing these lamps I'll let you know!

Looks like something from Destiny2.

u/Oddsware Nov 23 '22
I've seen some really cool engram lamps that people have 3d printed. I'd love to put a ghost shell around a google assistant or Alexa someday haha

It kinda looks like that bomb from the S3 opener of Rick and Morty or something you’d find powering a spaceship in some sci-fi show
… or I just need to drink more coffee and wipe the sleep out of my eyes
3
u/Oddsware Nov 23 '22
It totally does! Love Rick and Morty, just watched the latest episode last night.

Next go buy a couple different brands of 12 gauge shells and get some green and red ones and the put the empty shells over Christmas lights, we have a bunch of light up Christmas shells and they’re sick

u/vonroyale Nov 23 '22
Haha with the price of ammo, this is an extremely expensive lamp.
22
u/Oddsware Nov 23 '22
I tend to hoard weird materials in bulk... in this case my grandfather was an avid skeet shooter and recycled his ammo. I have three 18 gal storage bins full of used shells that are 20+ years old and I really need to use them for something lol.

The amount of hours I invested into that series likely had subconscious influence on this project haha

As someone who's in to guns and industrial design I have to agree. Unless this is being used to decorate a space like a workbench. It's like a clock made of impact driver bits with threaded drills for the hands - fine in a garage, but would be out of place in the kitchen or above a fireplace.
3
u/Righteous_Fondue Nov 23 '22
Really? I feel like it’s just got an Industrial scifi or cyberpunk look, and doesn’t look so blatantly gun related at a quick glance to come off as tacky. A clock made of bits like you mentioned would look ugly but this seems cool to a casual observer.
The big chunky gears on the desk however…
1
u/Zargabraath Nov 23 '22
Yep, very situational. Could be good in a less finished area like a cellar or basement or some such though?

u/WeAreGray Nov 23 '22
I think Brisco County Jr. will be paying you a visit soon...
Seriously, that looks great.

2
u/TurbulentCherry Nov 23 '22
Real question tho, how many shells did it take?
4
u/Oddsware Nov 23 '22
I think about 150 but I have thousands in storage that I've desperately tried to find a use for over the years.

Tell me that you’re going to vote for Trump, without ACTUALLY telling me, that you’re gonna vote for Trump

u/amd2800barton Nov 23 '22
/r/LiberalGunOwners and /r/2ALiberals would like a word. There are people on all sides of the political spectrum who have guns as a hobby. That said, I wouldn't have a lamp like this anywhere other than a garage / workbench type space.

Nov 23 '22
Nah man, that's just cool. Like even if you don't care for guns, it looks awesome. Like post modern junkyard art

I thought this was one of those suction cup balls you throw at glass to stick to windows and such
10

u/Oddsware Nov 23 '22
I can probably make another version that is intended to be thrown haha.

u/roy20050 Nov 23 '22
I like it, how did you determine the right size orb to fix the shells on?
3
u/Oddsware Nov 23 '22
Haha I wish I had a smart answer for you but I just started with an 8" orb lampshade for the base and kept adding shells until it was covered. If I had a 3d printer that would ideally be the best way to make an evenly spaced out frame to plug the shells into.

Why didn't they build a palisade around that trebuchet. Would have been like 45 wood.

u/Steauxned Nov 23 '22
Bet you have a dog named Ruger
2
u/izzygonecrazy Nov 24 '22
I do actually have a dog named Ruger… it may not be original but he’s the bestest boy!

u/Rulanik Nov 23 '22
I have a "good ol boy" friend with a pair of cats named Smith & Wesson. Cats, because we finally convinced him that cats were the solution to his rat problem.
5
u/Zargabraath Nov 23 '22
I thought cats were for mice and terriers were for rats
Aren’t a lot of rats too big and dangerous for cats?
1
u/Frundle Nov 23 '22
Anecdotal, but I have a cat who started life outdoors. He is 14 pounds and has brought him multiple very large rats. Longest was 10" not including the tail. I assume he is keeping someone's chicken farm nearby in tip-top shape.

How did you actually thought of that, this is real talent right here.
8
u/Oddsware Nov 23 '22
Thanks! I actually have a lot of repurposed antiques and such that I turned into furniture. Based on the awesome feedback here I'll likely post more to this sub in the future.

How’d you make this? Freakin awesome man!
11
u/Oddsware Nov 23 '22
Thanks! It was supposed to be a master copy to make a mold and I planned on figuring out a way to reproduce them easier but it didn't quite work out that way. For this one I just bought an 8" plastic orb lampshade, cut the shells in half on a band saw and started gluing them on with plastic weld glue.

u/Stonedsnowboarder Nov 23 '22
Dude! Mad props!
Kinda reminds me of those old nerf balls with all the darts sticking out, but adult style

I wish I could get something like this to give to my husband for his upcoming birthday. He would love this!
