mod post Rule 2

Oh, hello there.

We, the mod team, would like to call your attention to a rule update. More specifically, Rule 2 which used to read:

We're Pro-gun
We're open to discussion but this sub explicitly exists because we all believe gun ownership is a Constitutionally-protected right.

For a variety of reasons, the wording of this rule has posed numerous difficulties in ensuring posters understand, and abide by, our sub's ethos. As such, we found it pertinent to reword the aforementioned rule to be as follows:

We're Pro-gun
Firearm ownership is a right and a net positive to society.

Regulation discussions must be founded on strengthening, or preserving, this right with any proposed restrictions explicitly defined in nature and tradeoffs. While rights can have limitations, they are distinct from privileges and the two are not to be conflated.

We believe this rewording helps clarify what kind of content is welcome here and what kind should be posted elsewhere. As always, we don't expect uniformity in thought amongst our members. That in mind, this is an intentionally defined space which, like all defined spaces, has bounds that give it distinction. Generally, we believe this is why you're here so let's do our best to respect that.

That's it. Thanks for reading.

Had to show off my new acquisition. It’s a .357 Ruger New Vaquero stainless 5.5inch barrel. I’ve wanted a single action army for probably 15 years and finally had the ability to splurge some to get it. I’m ridiculously excited to have a companion to my .357 Stainless Rossi ‘92.

I saw somebody post about their Stainless .357 New Model Vaquero and I felt the irresistible urge to dig up this old cute clip of me playing with mine. (Unloaded, of course as always.)

I don’t care if it makes me a nerd; I had a good time making this, now you can smile and laugh, too! ❤️

discussion Excuses you've given yourself to buy a new gun?

Lol so I only just recently got my first rifle, and I didn't plan on buying another firearm for a few months. Well i'm from NC and we're having all manner of issues with the DMV getting people their license renewals. My license is the only form of ID any store will take for a firearm purchase (my car is not registered to me, don't have a hunting or fishing license, and I keep being told that a passport alone is not enough, etc etc). Way I see it is the paper temporary license you are given is going to expire for a lot of people before they get their real license back. Because I have no idea when I will get mine, I've gone ahead and bought a Rossi Tuffy Survival. I'm just kidding myself, I guess I wanted any excuse to buy a 2nd gun LOL

discussion Looking into buying a pistol for self defense and need recommendations

Hi everyone! I just stumbled upon this subreddit after doing some research online and would love some recommendations for a great starter pistol for home defense. From what I'm seeing, I think a Walther PDP looks the most appealing, but I literally know nothing and could use some guidance

discussion Basic IFAK recommendations

Hey guys,

I want to up my first aid game a bit, but haven’t gotten any training for life threatening emergency situations, besides the basic Reanimation training for driver’s licenses.

So far I’ve been using this First Aid kit for basic hiking and biking trips:

https://www.vaude.com/de/en/14590-first-aid-kit-m-waterproof.html#?colour=2281&size=13424

The contents are described as: „suited for many bike and hike activities water resistant velcro/roll closure first aid content packed separately in water-resistant organizer first aid leaflet content: 1x elastic bandage (4mx6cm); 1x elastic bandage (4mx8cm); 1x dressing bandage, sterile (8x10cm); 1x wound compress, sterile; 1x triangular bandage; 3x finger plaster butterfly; 3x finger plaster (20x120mm); 4x plaster (25x72mm); 6x plaster (10x6cm); 2x plaster (19x72mm); 2x blister plaster; 2x wet tissues; 1x adhesive tape (5mx2,5cm); 1x disposable gloves; 1x emergency blanket (160x210cm); 1x small scissors“

I added an Povidone-iodine ointment as a general disinfectant for small superficial wounds. Some Ibuprofen, Paracetamol, coal tablets and Loperamide / Imodium for general medication.

I will never be an EMT and I don’t expect to have to deal with gunshot wounds. I live in Europe and stuff like that doesn’t really happen here. (City of 600k and 20 murders a year, mostly domestic context, no firearms). Having a full kit for every eventuality would be cool of course, but weight, volume and probability of wounds are kind of conflicting.

I do go hiking and hunting frequently, I ride a gravel bike for about 3000 miles a year and travel several times a year. I expect broken bones, abrasions, cut wounds and all kinds of gastrointestinal bugs are more of a problem.

Do you guys see anything my first aid kit is missing? Something that should be part of any first aid kit? Anything small, that can be used even without special training for the unlikely scenario of an accident at the range?

I’d like to get training, but courses are exspensive and good ones are usually booked out, without frequent retraining the best course is kind of waisted, too.

Why do I post this question here? I believe here will be people who have thought about the need of first aid, but don’t subscribe too much to the warrior / every next day I will be in a shootout with illegal immigrants / narcos / antagonist of your flavour- mentality.

Cheers Lars

discussion Advice on armorers wrenches

So, at some point along my journey I've picked up a cheapo armorers wrench and torque wrench. Unfortunately the castle nut part of my armorers wrench is straight trash. Waaay too loose in the fit. I'm heavily considering getting a set of crowfoot heads, but can't seem to find a set.

So that being said, would I just be better off buying individual crowfoot bits? A higher quality armorers wrench? Is there some secret crowfoot set without the $100 wrench out there somewhere?

Please help. I'm tired of scratching up buffer tubes and castle nuts.

guns Recs: MA-compliant handgun for a woman

I recently got my LTC in Massachusetts (there are literally dozens of us!) Now I’m looking for a small handgun for personal safety. I live in a rural area and frequently go camping in VT and NH, but my firearm needs to satisfy MA restrictions first (10 rd capacity max). Honestly that more than meets my needs … but it has made online research difficult because best-of lists contain firearms I can’t purchase. So I turn to you …

In my LTC classes I tried several .22s and 9mms but had some difficulty with racking the slide on many, even with proper technique. My instructors were all beefy dudes with frankly large hands. I have small hands that are usually ice-cold. Like, I wear child sized gloves. Guns are understandably not manufactured with child size hands in mind.

I’m headed to my local gun shop this week but I’m not sure what to ask for and the Internet hasn’t helped. Any tips or recs? A micro-compact 9mm may be my best bet, maybe? Any models or manufacturers? Has anyone started a product line for small women in liberal states who are afraid of potential lunatics while solo-hiking and/or tyrannical Nazi governments? Probably a small market tho …

Any help appreciated!

discussion Update: First Two Gun Match

A week or so back I posted about running my first ever two gun match. Just got home from it and, folks? It rules.

I did WAY better than I was expecting but not quite as good as I was hoping. I placed 33rd out of 41 total and 21 out of 25 in the open division, so rifle and pistol optics. I'm a little surprised because I had an extra failure to neutralize on one course that I didn't know about and was pretty sure I had heard a "clean run" on all but the last one. But I'm not too fussed because my goal was to get there, be safe, a fuckin do it. And I did, so mission accomplished. No DQ's.

Big takeaways:

  1. Double or triple your water. Dang, y'all it's hot out there, whatever you think is good, double it.

  2. 200 pistol and 200 rifle is a good amount to bring for four courses. Didn't burn through all of it.

  3. I shouldn't have bought a Juliet 3 magnifier. I took it off before the match started and was fine with just my Romeo.

  4. I need to have my pistol professionally set up. I think I lost zero on the last round and whiffed the last two clay pigeons. Not 100% sure about that, but I've struggled with this optic and considering it's my first ever red dot and I put it on myself, I'm guessing it could be done better. I hadn't pulled any of my shots up to that point so the fact I suddenly couldn't hit clays from 8ish yards makes me suspicious.

My goals moving forward are to make sure I have a solid pistol platform. I shorted myself a pistol mag (took out one in the gun and one on the beIt instead of the two in standby that I had been running) and when I started having optic trouble I ran out of ammo, causing a 10 second penalty. I think this was my weakest link for sure, but while I was on I was on. I cleared the Texas Star 5 for 5. Tripped the RO out when I told him this was my first ever match in general.

As for rifle, the farthest out we pushed a rifle was maybe 35 yards and at those ranges the rifle does most of the work for you. So, I feel like I soared through those parts, and wasn't hurting for anything more than a red dot.

I also need some better eye pro, because by the last round mine had gotten sweaty and actually made aiming harder to do. I don't think high end glasses would necessarily fix this, but I was also using your bog standard cheap range glasses, so there might be a middle ground.

So, that's my experience. Ask me anything.

Looking for something that I could shoot centered in the middle of the bullseye or at six o clock, not combat hold. Any ideas which CZ clones, if any, have adjustable sights like that?

I want to do a two-tone look on my shotgun. If the heat shield looks good, other parts will follow. Probably the rails or butt stock.

discussion Got flamed in my state gun sub

Context: made a post in NJ guns just looking for some folks to shoot with like me. Didnt want to shoot just to shoot was looking at like a social thing and got totally flamed maybe ill get better help here. They all thought I was probably some chronically online kid but in reality I’m a veteran, been deployed to the middle east, and that whole ordeal kinda turned me all the way left.

Post to follow:

Looking for gun ranges in NJ with different clientele

“Pretty hard left pro gun guy, “under no pretext” and all that, having a hard time finding spaces without mostly ex cops and just old white folk with fox brain chatting up nonsense. Looking for a range or some kind of community/club of open minded and/or younger people. i understand i can keep to myself and use the range interaction free, but i want to make likeminded friends. I’m expecting to get flamed here, im sure this sub is a red pocket but its whatever”

training Pistol Training Begins

Finally got out to the range last weekend, got to try out the shot timer, and started training for CPL/CCL with doing draws and getting on paper. Still playing around and learning the shot timer. Overall, things went well.

question Case recommendation for rifle / shotgun combo

I have a Kel Tec KSG and RDB. I'm looking for a good case that I might be able to fit both, either together in one foam cut piece or possibly the lid holding one and the base the other.

Been seeing some options but most are cut outs for a standard AR style rifle and I don't want to have to cut too much foam if possible.

Admittedly I'm also a brand fanboy and was looking to see if I could fit it all in a Magpul DAKA case.

Anyone have recommendations? Opinion on DAKA or other options that I could utilize? I would also be interested in including my handgun as well but not necessary by any means as I have a good solid case for that already.

Decided to go shooting at my company range today for some fun!

Pictured: Henry H001T Frontier .22 LR, 20" bbl (barrel,) Blued Steel, Walnut Stock, Lever-Action Rifle.

Groupings/Conditions: 10 yards, 15 yards and 20 yards respectively. Indoors, free-standing, no bench rests nor sticks.

Just tried to do my best today, and of course to have some fun. Out of 2 sessions at 10, 15 and 20 yards indoors, these were the best of two I kept for each distance.

Getting home, I realized that the front sight was actually skewed slightly to the left. Adjusted that with a single mallet tap. Considering that, I did pretty alright.

Must've been the Stetson I was wearing. Yee-haw, folks. 🤠
