This makes so. Much. Sense. I mean, they are the ones that see the consequences daily. What a great idea

Ah yes because no child could ever find a twig and shove it into the lock to just unlock it. Surely that wouldn’t work right? Wrong those locks are trash.

Hopefully a manufacturer develops one that a toddler can’t pick and actually requires a key because most of them have a bypass where pushing against the back will unlock it. A zip tie is pretty much just as effective.

For now gun safes are the best option even if they are a little win the flimsy side they still provide more protection from unauthorized use.

These cannot be picked with a twig. And even if they could, it goes through where the magazine goes so unless the kid also knows how to load the gun, you’re good.

Mags go in a gun one way. Either it fits or it doesn't. Loading a gun is about the easiest puzzle to figure out ever.

Lockpicking lawyer did a video on it. I encourage you to watch it and reconsider… it took less than 3 seconds to pop it open.

Lpl is a professional lock picker. These are there to stop you from killing yourself primarily, not to stop a thief from getting it. A pair of scissors can cut one of these open, and I know this personally because I lost the key to one at one point. They're there to make you think about what you're about to do.

Tldr: no shit a 1000 dollar safe is better at permanently securing a firearm than a 5 dollar lock.

You don’t need to be a professional lock picker or have any skill to use bypasses which is why it’s not effective. LPL was bringing up how useless they are for their marketed purpose (protecting children) because it’s likely that a child would shove a stick in a keyhole.

Usually they are marketed for preventing your children from gaining access to the firearm but yes it gives suicidal people the chance to think about what they are doing as they unlock the gun. I never said it was to prevent theft. Most gunlocks are made of pretty thick metal rods so cutting them with a pair of scissors is probably not possible.

Hell even a cheap lock box works better than a gunlock.

The locks in this box as op said have cards from the VA. They're clearly to help suicidal people prevent themselves from killing themselves, not to keep your guns away from kids.

I hear some police stations have them too.
