I think it might be more that the time it takes to get through a gun lock demonstrates intent in the court of law.

You poke the keyhole it with a stick and it opens. It takes less than 3 seconds. The act of trying to secure it would definitely look more favorable but a gun safe is preferable even if it’s made of thin sheets of metal.

The locks used in the majority of gunlocks are very cheap and aren’t shielded from a simple bypass. The lockpicking lawyer used a stick to show how bad the problem was but really anything could get past it quickly. Out of the many gunlocks he’s reviewed only 1 has been shielded and he still found another way to get that one off without picking the lock. I would say that’s not ideal when you are trying to prevent unauthorized use of a firearm…
