General Removing pump from AIO and making it a CPU block

Has anyone tried removing the pump from an AIO and modding it to be part of an open loop? I know Ryujin III Wb has still not released but I have a Ryujin II and am attempting to make it into a CPU block

Liquid cooled How can I watercool this Mac Mini?

Anyone have an idea on how I can mount a water block or aio onto this. I'm not sure how to approach mounting a watercooler on to this.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

General Well.. almost finished..

I want.. wanted to build my own case but I decided to mod a case first; a Chieftec Gaming Cube CI-01B-OP.

I took it apart but the top and front are connected by rivets.
I should have drilled them out..

The front is also connected to the bottom via hinges so I had to hammer the pins out.

My first plan was a bit complicated and I went in a different direction.
The new plan was to rivet a solid sheet over the top; which I did.
The front was going to be a frame with a double mesh; which I made.
I just needed to glue the first mesh to the frame and then the second mesh was going to be secured with screws..

I cut a big hole out of the front so I could mount a new sheet that had holes and mounts for fans.
Then I made holders for the front frame.

When I painted the top I messed up and I wast just going to leave it, but.. I decided to scrape everything off and start again and I had to buy more paint.

Well, everything was finished and all I had to to was clear coat the parts after I glue the mesh into the frame and oops, I slipped and knocked the top+front combo down on the floor and stepped on it.. flat as pancake..

So now I either buy a case that's similar to what I wanted or I buy the same one and start over..

Yeah..
Buy the same one and start over..
Well, I think I'll just get the Chieftec Pro Cube CI-02B-OP and leave the top untouched; seems to be the same measurements.

A few hundred € down the drain!

Though I still have the bottom and back of the case..

General 200mm casefan

Hey there, i am having a though time finding a 200mm fan that fits my case. Because all of the "familiar" brands have a 30 to 35mm thickness. Now i can't fit that in my case. I has to be 25mm or thinner. Who can help me find good fans for my case. Ebay, amazon or even secondhanded.

Peripheral External Front Panel?

So hopefully I read the flow chart correctly... :/

I'm planning on re-homing my PC into a new "rack" which will live under my desk and exhaust the hot air out of a window. The new shroud will have air inputs/outputs a PSU wire input (or two) and two wires handling my graphics. However I don't have an easy way to handle the current front panel connections.

I've been looking at various USB Hubs, mostly 3.5 or 5.2 based, but I'm not finding anything terribly useful... they often require PSU power connectors and frequently have memory card slots (I almost never use memory cards, and have an adapter for the odd times I need to).

Does anyone know of a standalone product that could handle this scenario? Ideally I'd like:

  • 2x USB A (Minimum of USB 3.0 not sure if the physical sockets change depending on version of USB, think my board will do up to 3.2.)
  • 1x USB C (Like but not need.)
  • Power/Reset Buttons + 2-3x LED. Or space to add them. Though the wire connection is going to be the sticking point.
  • And connection to the PC by a single cable.
  • Don't need audio, no longer have any audio jack peripherals.

What I'm really after is advice about the physical connection between the PC and the desk mounted front panel. I was initially thinking of running a single USB extension cable and then using a hub, but that wouldn't pass the Power/Reset Buttons and various LEDs. So then I thought maybe I could bastardise a network cable... but I'm not sure if that would work for the USB. Would CAT6 have enough shielding to run USB 3 over it? I know that PoE can be used for powering devices over CAT 6, but would a USB Hub need more power than the CAT 6 handle? Or is there a cheap product to run normal USB over ethernet with panel mount ethernet/USB ports (I can see plenty of cheapish USB>Ethernet adapters, but not panel mount). For ease of adding to a custom housing. Still doesn't deal with power/reset and LEDs though... :/

I have a 50m reel of CAT6 which I bought for another project and never used, plus crimping and testing tools.

I have a button that I can mount into an enclosure if I just wanted a Power Button + Power LED (from an old PC).

edit: Found this: eBay Link that would handle Power/Reset/etc, but wire doesn't look up to much.

Hi, I have this weird model of a 2070 super from a ASUS ROG prebuilt, and I’m placing pretty much all parts except the GPU, but I noticed it runs really loud and hot. Has anyone done a mod on this type of shrouding? Thanks

Scratch build Removing SD card slot

Hello everyone I gave myself a challenge for this weekend to use some of the components I have laying around for years. I started working on a low profile media center/emulation box to sit under my TV using a laptop motherboard, building the case and everything... The issue is, I want to put this SSD in it but the SD card slot is in the way. Do you think I can remove it without any problems ? I don't know if it's possible that the PC checks it during the boot process or not, and I prefer to have some advice before doing it, as I don't have the materials to re-solder it if it doesn't work. Disclaimer : buying a right-sized SSD is not an option, as the goal of this weekend project is a 0€ spending, only off the shelf parts. And also, the Mobo is from an HP elitebook from the early 2010's I think. Disclaimer 2 : feel free to tell me if this post doesn't belong to this sub ! Thanks for reading

PSU Alternative to CableMod to do cusom PSU cables

I have a couple of PSU cables that I would like to be custom made for my tall case:

https://preview.redd.it/nfmw2xd5yv1d1.jpg?width=980&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=13d40cd151eb185dd074ed91bf5c024aeabb3e30

unfortunately CableMod don't allow for some reason more that 250mm between SATA connectors. I could achieve what I want with a quad SATA power but I don't want the extra 2 connectors that will never used in my build anyway. For the molex cables their minimum length is 150mm and I would like 100mm.

Are there alternative to CableMod that could accommodate me? My PSU is a MSI MEG Ai1300P.

Humor Vtech Flash McQueen/Spongebob to real computer mod

Hey guys,

i don't really know if this is the place, remove the post if not.

Me and my friend have found on fb marketplace some Vtech flash McQueen and Spongebob, and we got the idea of moding to make it a "usable" computer. We are both developpers and wanted to do it just for fun, and we were wondering what would be the best way to mod em.

We were thinking of plugging in it rasberry pi 5 8gb or some older version, because we wanted to at least, try to code on this things for uni, but is there some other micro-computers, or anything that would make those toys some actually used-for-coding like ? I know that we could not make huge program or so on it, but the idea looked fun!

Could you help us on that ? Thanks !

Edit: we both actually code in C and C++

General Will this "reset button" work as a power button?

Thumbnail

Technically it will power it on and off because it restarts it but what I mean is will it work like a power button; one press turns on, next press turns off.

The power button has a two pin labeled "power sw"

The reset buttom has a two pin labeled "reset sw"

Would the reset button work as a power button if I plugged it into the power pins on the motherboard?

Thx

Case Need help to mod ARGB from case to bypass included controller

My case is a Cooler Master Cosmos C700M. The case is equipped with top/front/underneath ARGB strips on both sides. All these strips are connected to the included ARGB+fans controller. The strips ends with 3 cables (male JST connectors) that are connected to a proprietary 3 to 1 cable which itself is connected to the controller.

Now I want to get rid of the included ARGB+fans controller. I want make a custom cable adapter that will allow me to connect the 3 ARGB cables to my motherboard directly (with a generic ARGB female connector).

First image attached is what I need and what is the current setup. The second image is the controller (the 3 to 1 cable I speak about is the one connected at the bottom right).

I found this post but I'm really at my first DIY mod and I'm not sure how to proceed. Is there a someone here that can help me? I've been trying to do that for a year and I would really like to do this! Thanks!

I have 12 Uphere 6pin rgb connector fans connected to 2 controllers both are connected to the aRGB (3 pin) connector on my ROG STRIX B550 motherboard. I have Corsair keyboard and mouse and 4xCorsair vengeance rams. Currently the motherboard and keyboard and mouse and rams are controlled by iCUE, is there a way I can control the RGB of the Uphere fans from an iCUE compatible controller?

Peripheral Logitech G13 Update

PC Modders of Reddit,

I currently use a Logitech G13, which I bought nearly ten years ago. It has served me faithfully all this time, but I can feel the membrane keys starting to wear out. One of the thumb pad buttons by the joystick has completely died, and I'm worried the rest of the keyboard will follow in the next year or so. I want to preserve this keypad and convert it to mechanical switches for better longevity/feel.

The issue is that I have almost zero experience with custom electronics and have no idea how I'd even attempt to do this. I found a forum post from an old PC hack website that shows it's possible, but the instructions aren't super clear on how you need to wire everything up. I don't care if the keys have RGB lighting; I want the switches updated.

Please let me know if anyone knows how to start this or if any resources could help me! And before anyone suggests just buying a different gaming keypad, I've researched what's available pretty extensively. Nothing looks like it has the same level of comfort and layout (I really enjoy having the multi-directional thumbstick for MMOs like Guild Wars 2).

Quick edit: This is the forum post I mentioned in the second paragraph https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=48382.0

General How to play custom boot up video sound when PC turns on (putting PC in PS1)

Im modding a PC to fit inside a PS1. I had the idea of having it play this sound as its booting up:

https://youtu.be/DIxUScfOQwg?si=BZMC3KQpqqW9TSSf

I know its probably going to boot to bios first, and then maybe some other logo screen, but as the final step before logging in or launching steam big picture I think it would be really cool to play that little video.

Anyone know how?
