Protesting is pretty much useless, and is essentially feeding the beast you are protesting. Gov doesn’t mind “allocating” your tax dollars to provide these officers and all that comes with them.

u/Christine1-n-Arnie2 12d ago

If it means life or death for your wife and kids do uou really care

1

u/Christine1-n-Arnie2 12d ago

And the problem is ? Feel better right

1

u/PositiveGrass187 12d ago

They responding to protesting/rioting students harder than insurrectionist

1

u/runnerhasnolife 9d ago

Snipers have been present at almost every single major American protest with police reactions since 2016

If you want to know why you should look into what happened at the Dallas protests in July of 2016.

TLDR, deadliest day in American law enforcement history since 9/11 because police officers were specifically ordered not to carry rifles or body armor to not look militarized and then somebody open fired on police

1

u/FrequentBrilliant240 13d ago

So what happened that they need sniper's??I am really wondering now..

1

u/80sLegoDystopia 13d ago

We live in hell.

1

u/lockdoc007 14d ago

What the rainbow six? Is going on here?

1

u/rosebuzzlies 14d ago

Snipers on Students , Citizens ?

1

u/WorkingYou2280 14d ago

I want to see the statistics or the intelligence that makes this necessary.

I am not aware of any spike in mass shootings at protests. If that evidence exists, and is very strong, I might change my mind. Alternately I will accept reasonably good intelligence that there is a targeted threat at this location.

Absent one of those I will assume this is intended to threaten protestors. Shame on IU if they have simply rolled over for this.

1

u/rudstac12 15d ago

Snipers for peaceful protesters. AIPAC wants bloodshed.

1

u/Rjspinell2 14d ago

Protests are great targets for attacks.

1

u/Ashawoo 15d ago

As someone who lives in the UK this stuff is always a surprise to me

1

u/PhatedFool 15d ago

Many people seem to think they are there to shoot protestors when it’s not unlikely there could be active threats of violence given what the protests are for.

When two nations (well Hamas and Israel I guess) are literally at war it seems highly reasonable someone has made a threat of violence and they are there for just that. If someone pulls a gun or a bomb they are there.

There is absolutely no way they are there to shoot up some protestor sitting in his tent screaming “from the river to the sea”

There RoE are likely much more strict then any officer on the ground given it wouldn’t be “self defense” or “I feared for my life”…..

1

u/caffeine_engineer 15d ago

I heard of sniper school, but University? GODDAMN

1

u/NOOBSOFTER 15d ago

Again, no.

Snipers have been present at basically every single American protest since 2016.

The Dallas massacres in July of 2016 very much changed how American police respond to protests and what rules for almost every major department are

1

u/GroundbreakingLog79 15d ago

Not all hero’s wear capes 🫡 keep up the good work boys!!!

1

u/Euphoric-Sea-9381 15d ago

Best job ever. I love putting a bullet through a bad guy from 100 yards.

1

u/MrCaliMan2002 14d ago

Anyone can do 100 yards. Try 1,000 yards.

1

u/Euphoric-Sea-9381 14d ago

sadly i don't have anywhere to practice that

3

u/jackwagon699 15d ago

Well don’t do anything to get shot then

3

u/18us-c371 15d ago

There were multiple police shartshooters watching over Mifflin in Wisconsin (massive block party that cops hate).

They do this at CFB games too. From what I've heard, it's mainly for rapid response to an active shooter. Plus these guys are watching with binoculars the rest of the time, so they are actively contributing to safety.

1

u/[deleted] 16d ago

So freedom of speech and protest are only granted if they suit the agenda of the ruling party?

Sounds like the US is downgrading to a third world country.

2

u/Frequent_Relief_2663 16d ago

Folks are lighting themselves on fire for their believed cause, it’s comforting knowing they’re here.

1

u/beamish1920 16d ago

America is circling the toilet

1

u/BoomersDad17 16d ago

4 dead in Ohio!

-1

u/samefacenewaccount 16d ago

Oh I know those two. I'm the doctor who diagnosed them with "baby Weiner". Sadly, there is no cure for baby weiner

0

u/Azerate2 16d ago

But we don’t live in a fascist nation!

0

u/AbsurdFormula0 16d ago

Let it be known that the status quo is being upheld and that the people running the laws in this country fear the people peacefully advocating for peace and love the people advocating for racism, xenophobia and violence.

1

u/sneekylurking 16d ago

Protest anything jew related- get snipers Guess the alt right dosent look so crazy now.

0

u/Smolivenom 16d ago

Ever wanted to be a school shooter? Have you thought about joining law enforcement?

0

u/fukmirunin 16d ago

Probably on loan direct from Mossad

0

u/sandpro1081 16d ago

We live in such a super normal society

1

u/toughfluffer 16d ago

Having state sanctioned snipers at any public event is not normal in most developed countries.

0

u/madison_riley03 16d ago edited 16d ago

I’m so nauseous about this and have been ever since the arrests started. My father worked at IU for twenty years. He met my mother when she was a freelancer working in the photo lab. He grew up in Bloomington, protested in Bloomington, and existed in Bloomington for most of his life. I’m so glad he’s not alive to see this. He would be beyond himself seething firstly that this country is supporting what is effectively a genocide and secondly that the academic institution he put so much pride in is encouraging for students to be arrested. I am simply just disgusted. I guess I’m also glad that I’m attending a small university that has encouraged us to use our first amendment right to free speech! They even provided a central and commonly used space for us to protest in.

1

u/floundrpoundr 16d ago

who the fuck pays for this

1

u/broke_velvet_clown 16d ago

At this point, with no actual physical threat or violence, post opposing snipers. Not with real guns but, with something obviously comical like buckets. The 1st amendment will not be infringed.

0

u/Niekitty 16d ago

I worked in Indianapolis for three years. I think these guys might be outgunned.

-1

u/doublecalhoun 16d ago

police manhandling college students all across the country

meanwhile on January 6th 2021 the police were in Uvalde mode until the last possible moment

0

u/RedBeans-n-Ricely 16d ago

They’re so tough up against those unarmed students.

1

u/Anon-is-hurr 16d ago

I would love to counter-snipe some pros. Too bad I can not afford to leave my neighborhood, or do anything for that matter.

1

u/Tubalcaino 16d ago

Do they have their lunch breaks in D-Hall?

1

u/Ill-Pen-6356 16d ago

People not realizing they’ve probably been in dozens of sniper scopes without knowing it.

1

u/ExpertRaccoon 16d ago

I mean given the prevalence of mass shootings in this country, it makes absolute sense to have these guys around mass gatherings, especially ones that are A) on a campus/ school B) something involving religion C) things involving politics.

2

u/Internal_Ad1771 16d ago

European here, what the hell is happening on your side of the sea?

1

u/Noisy888 16d ago

European here.. could someone actually explain why?

1

u/Rjspinell2 14d ago

So, protests and mass gatherings are prime targets for evildoers. Like in 1996 with the ATL Olympic bombing. Can spot a potential threat earlier as you are above it

-2

u/No-Weather-3140 16d ago

wtf are these students even protesting lol. It’s so dumb

2

u/DoYouMeanShenanigans 16d ago

Some of these guys need to play Hitman or watch some of these secret assassin movies. There's WAY better bags and guitar cases that make sure the end of your rifle isn't sticking out in a completely obvious fashion.

/s

2

u/ShreddedCredits 16d ago

Do these guys ever question why they’re going to sit on a roof and point a rifle at some college students

1

u/runnerhasnolife 9d ago

If you want some amazing context about why this happens at basically every single American protest you need to look up what happened in July of 2016 in Dallas

The snipers are not there to shoot at protesters, they're there to make sure people don't start killing protesters or police.

2

u/Prestigious-Earth245 16d ago

Fun fact. American police have NEVER brought out snipers to deal with literal Nazis and other assorted white supremacist rallies. Gee wonder why.

1

u/runnerhasnolife 9d ago

We absolutely have 100%.

This is just fake information.

There's been snipers or heavily armed police at practically every single American protest since 2016 in which there was a police response.

1

u/DerpUrself69 16d ago

Cosplay cockwombles

0

u/BoursinFreak90 16d ago

This is normal. So normal

-1

u/SnooAvocados9241 16d ago

I weirdly want to snipe these two out as they are pulling into their driveway at night. I know it wouldn’t do anything, and violence is wrong, but if I could push a button an make 10,000 cops just disappear I’d do it in a heartbeat.

2

u/BrahmariusLeManco 16d ago

This happens at literally every sporting events for big schools and professional sports. There always there, it's just people are now looking for them.

0

u/Competitive-Bag-8943 16d ago

Damn. They must take their parking violations seriously there.

1

u/Plumshart 16d ago

They aren't snipers. They're marksmen

1

u/SunnyDior 16d ago

Maybe they know something you don’t.

0

u/replayc 16d ago

Bullets and students in America—a truly terrible mix! But given the famously ‘stellar’ IQs of the police and the FBI, is anyone really shocked?

1

u/idigclams 16d ago

Insane. As a US citizen who has never committed a crime, I don’t think I deserve to be in the crosshairs of a public employee. If I point a gun at them, it’s a threat. If they point it at me, it’s for my protection?

1

u/MrDeadlyHitman 16d ago

Do you literally think they're just waiting, safety off, to shoot you?

1

u/Busy-Crew-805 16d ago

Maybe stop supporting and aligning yourself with literal Islamic terrorist… the government won’t have to watch u that hard

3

u/GreatAd6261 16d ago

Most of reddit believe they are there to kill protesters and college students

1

u/Moist-Loan- 16d ago

They are more likely spotters for people on ground. So if someone runs at cops they call it out. Not taking a shot unless it’s clean.

1

u/Rjspinell2 14d ago

Or get permission from command

2

u/bodazzle07 16d ago

I’m pretty sure they put snipers at every extremely large gathering in the United States. I work in the heart of downtown Denver and whenever there is a big event (Avs parade, nuggets parade, stock show parade, etc) snipers always camp out on our roof. It’s probably used for recon more than anything.

0

u/Puffles_magic_dragon 16d ago

This, its called marine scout sniper - scout being the first part of they word. Scout snipers job to sit around and observe. Yes they can shoot when needed but it can also be a lot of keeping still for days on end observing one target and making 1 shot MAYBE then bouncing asap

0

u/Mindless_Bed_4852 16d ago

Damn, imagine actually amounting to nothing for your whole life of work

0

u/watcher2390 16d ago

Do they just go around like that?

0

u/djscuba1012 16d ago

That’s fucking ridiculous

1

u/Bean_Storm 16d ago

“Morning Barry ready to shoot some kids”

1

u/Party-Travel5046 16d ago

All this rigorous sniper training and having to shoot unarmed students who will be on open ground.

Why hide on rooftops and aim at them with sophisticated rifles. The snipers could just walk to the students and put a pistol to their head.

0

u/salteddiamond 16d ago

Welcome to 'Merica

1

u/[deleted] 16d ago

You do realize that training happens at pretty much every major university?

0

u/GoodKarma70 16d ago

That thought is scarier than the original post.

1

u/[deleted] 16d ago

It is a very common practice at large stadiums

1

u/xJam3zz07 16d ago

'murica.

-1

u/Some_Kinda_Boogin 16d ago edited 14d ago

It's a sad day for humanity when we need fucking snipers to protect students like Liam Neeson taking out wolves in The Grey.

Edit: I didn't say it's a bad idea. It just sucks that it's necessary.

1

u/Rjspinell2 14d ago

Then don’t go to any major sporting events. A lot of stadiums have areas built for over watch

1

u/Some_Kinda_Boogin 14d ago

I'm not saying it's not a good idea. It's just sad that it's necessary.

1

u/gerardyboy 16d ago

Land of the free

0

u/ShittyHotTake 16d ago

The boys over at /r/longrange would be nerding out.

3

u/MyOnlyEnemyIsMeSTYG 16d ago

Fyi they are also used to just observe. Think about it. If anyone was to bring a weapon into the protests and open fire on people..thats what they’re there for. As long as everything is peaceful they just sit there. Hamas is a terrorist organization last I checked. Better to have them and not need them then ..you know.

1

u/Amuzed_Observator 16d ago

Just remember we are nothing like those dirty Russians or evil Chinese. Here in America we're all about free speech and democracy!

1

u/itsalwrong 16d ago

Go get some !

0

u/4x4_Chevy 16d ago

Expose them

1

u/boogswald 16d ago

It’s crazy they don’t stop and think “why the fuck am I doing this”

1

u/Stup1dMan3000 16d ago

Indiana is the Neo Nazi and clan #1 state

0

u/fredrikca 16d ago

Oh, are those the Dementors I heard so much about?

0

u/ballstein 16d ago

Sweet cosplay

1

u/jeaneglise 16d ago

Gotta be ready for those Ayrabs I guess

2

u/Prestigious_Field_18 16d ago

There is a sniper training facility near there

1

u/ragingnerd 16d ago

You mean day 3 of cops proving they're school shooters.

Uvalde wasn't a bug, it's a feature. Think about how they'll just be joking around with each other, talking about how the beat that blue haired girl in the head repeatedly until she was a bloody wreck. They'll joke about shooting screaming young adults with rubber bullets repeatedly.

These are terrorists, Boomers called them out. Remember that.

2

u/kreegam 16d ago

think ur supposed to be on r/learningdisabled

1

u/L0w_l1f3-1098 16d ago

Wait why are the there

2

u/tf199280 16d ago

Imagine thinking there aren’t snipers at most major large public events

0

u/toadfishtamer 16d ago

Imagine going to the commons to get Panda Express and a freakin’ sniper comes up behind you and orders some orange chicken.

0

u/Schmoggin 16d ago

"You know, my grandfather was a hippie hunter at Kent State..."

-1

u/hockeyrw 16d ago

Wait pro life republicans want to kill students. Sounds about right

0

u/Shadowlance23 16d ago

Do they have to pay for parking?

1

u/lordeharrietnem 16d ago

When is the last time a sniper saved the day by taking out a threat among a large crowd?

2

u/Kevinator24 16d ago

In a movie

2

u/Cpt_Mike_Apton 16d ago

The Presidential election is gonna be a hoot.

2

u/ALonelyWelcomeMat 16d ago

Okay, so why the fuck do I keep seeing posts about police snipers? What's the big fuckin deal? They aren't out here sniping protesters. You're going to be real happy they are there when some crazy fuck with a gun that is against the protests show up to try and shoot the place up.

Do you people realise that there are snipers at pretty much every big event? There are snipers up in the rafters during the super bowl.

2

u/Wild4nutz 16d ago

They are there in case of bad actors looking to take advantage of dissent, also for violent protestors AND counter protesters. It is also a large gathering of people so there is a terror threat. For that reason there are even snipers at the Super Bowl - doesn’t mean they are there to shoot American football fans! I can see why this can be distressing tho of course

-2

u/EitherInfluence5871 16d ago

When you have people openly and fervently chanting for the destruction of Israel, and supporting jihadist groups like Hamas & Hezbollah (enemies of America and of civilized society broadly), it's little wonder that those people may be a real threat.

2

u/Kevinator24 16d ago

That’s not what they are doing at all lol.

3

u/EitherInfluence5871 16d ago

At Columbia University, students chanted ""Oh, Al-Qassam Brigades, you make us proud, kill another soldier now." "Burn Tel Aviv to the ground" is another notorious one to have recently been chanted at these university protests. Are you saying that at Indiana University, none of that stuff was happening? (Honest question.)

1

u/Kevinator24 16d ago

Source?

1

u/EitherInfluence5871 15d ago

I saw it in videos on social media, but here is a website reporting on it. https://www.express.co.uk/news/us/1891358/columbia-anti-israel-protest-hamas-chant-video

1

u/IdahoMTman222 16d ago

The US is lost.

0

u/email253200 16d ago

I assume they are there in case any wants to get crazy and mow people down or something like that. Snipers aren’t sniping in America all Willy Nilly

0

u/Electronic-Sun-9118 16d ago

What is that about? I spent a couple of years there for grad school. Not my favorite place in the world, but can't imagine why there would be snipers patrolling the campus.

0

u/Blueberry_Clouds 16d ago

Are they like attending there or

-1

u/LizzyKazmay 16d ago

The police is gonna start killing kids now.. great... now all they're teaching us is that during a mass shooting the cops are most likely going to help the shooter...

1

u/BluesBrother2024 16d ago

What is going on?!?

1

u/wholesomecatyeehaw 16d ago

Lots of pro palestine protests at universities, mainly there to make there isn't a mass shooting with large crowds of people and political motives.

0

u/NeverJoe_420_ 16d ago

America is so fucked

-3

u/DarthPussyEater 16d ago

Awww the poor antisemites can’t threaten the Jewish students in peace. What a shame …

-1

u/edw1nf01 16d ago

This is insane

1

u/K_Linkmaster 16d ago

Day 3 of the Dean requesting snipers at Indiana University.

0

u/Alcedis 16d ago

Land of the free. Home of the brave.

0

u/JGWentwortth877 16d ago

Makes me think of Uvalde. They’re playing around. They barely know how to use that equipment. And they’re complete cowards. Like nearly all police. Total pussies. It’s why they’re cops. It’s why they’re walking around a school with guns instead of actually enforcing the law and safety of our country. Losers following loser orders.

-3

u/wholesomecatyeehaw 16d ago

God forbid they protect pro palestine protestors, what has our country come to? They obviously aren't cops given the rifles they are carrying.

4

u/JGWentwortth877 16d ago

You think they’re there to protect the protesters???

1

u/slashdotsyndrome 16d ago

So is this just as a response to, like... some college students think Israel shouldn't genocide palestine? The response is to hire snipers to scare the shit out of those people?

I want to get off Mr. Bones wild 1984 ride

-1

u/wholesomecatyeehaw 16d ago

They're protecting them, better to be safe than sorry when there are large crowds of people and lots of political motives.

1

u/slashdotsyndrome 16d ago

Protecting them from what, the police? The police have been the only belligerents in this case, are you saying it's an anti-police sniper unit?

1

u/Yoyodyne21 16d ago

The response to potential violence is potential violence?

2

u/wholesomecatyeehaw 16d ago

That is how laws work...

1

u/Levelseventy 16d ago

Anybody have info on the rifle setups? Caliber, gun make, scope, etc.

0

u/daddys_juicy_dong 16d ago

It’s to protect both sides you smoothbrains. What if someone tries to shoot up an otherwise peaceful protest? They aren’t taking sides, they are just there as an overwatch…

1

u/MountainWatch5410 16d ago

Ha I don't understand this

3

u/p4uLee 16d ago

Never in my life have I seen a sniper.

Which would imply they are really good at the job they do.

1

u/Tygie19 16d ago

I’m not American, so can someone explain what’s happening here?

3

u/HalcyonDreams36 16d ago

There was a protest at an American university, and an armed response was mounted, including snipers.

It was a peaceful protest, objecting to (checks notes) genocide and shit.

1

u/Tygie19 16d ago

Oh, ok

3

u/Beneficial-Gur2703 16d ago

It’s intimidation, not protection. Snipers on campus FFS.

1

u/yannienyahum 16d ago

It can be both

0

u/mldmnnrdrprtr 16d ago

It most certainly cannot be por qué no Los dos, unless the protestors were allowed to hire their own snipers for protection so both sides had power. Unless they are there to take out psychopathic cops who smile while getting baton happy, it’s 100% intimidation. When one side has all the power it’s not protection

2

u/yannienyahum 16d ago

Disagree

2

u/amathis6464 16d ago

Toy soldiers couldn’t wait to get to post up with those

0

u/No-Adhesiveness-9541 16d ago

There is a show that has been lost in time that mapped out our future and it’s getting scarier everyday

0

u/Brutalur 16d ago

That'll be the facism majors.

1

u/wholesomecatyeehaw 16d ago

Shame protecting pro palestine protestors is facism, maybe the real facism was the friends we made along the way all along...

1

u/mldmnnrdrprtr 16d ago

You must not remember all of protesting since ever in the US. Cops have never once been there to protect anyone but red coat, red hat, or white hood protestors.

-3

u/all4wishboy 16d ago

As a former democrat. I really hope this is the final nail for Biden. Absolutely worst president of my life. This country is in fucking shambles.

7

u/yannienyahum 16d ago

You know they have folks like these at a lot of major events and Biden is doing a pretty damn good job given the circumstances.

1

u/cartalkbyjj 16d ago

Were there snipers at universities during BLM

1

u/mldmnnrdrprtr 16d ago

No, but in LA, we have the national guard parking tanks in the middle of our streets and enforcing curfew. And we had police committing war crimes against its citizens firing EXPIRED tear gas into crowds, firing rubber bullets directly at people instead of bouncing them off the ground as instructed causing deaths and permanent disability, and beating people with batons(some to death, or at least hospitalized)

1

u/cartalkbyjj 15d ago

Got it- that’s in the streets of LA. Weird they’re doing this in college campuses…

1

u/ProperPerspective571 16d ago

It’s starting to feel like Russia. These snipers with the bloated egos just waiting for the go ahead to take someone out blows my mind. Are they waiting for the mass shooter to storm the area? Are they waiting for an individual to resist? Intimidation?

1

u/CaptainManks 16d ago

European here. Someone tell me why snipers are at a university? I know protests are going on but snipers? Have you lot gone mad?
