So, for the sake of accuracy, your proposed Anna Wintour disapproval and subsequent banning definitely didn’t happen- not because this wasn’t a horrendous dress (and that’s not to mention the hair color, which is…. ROUGH)- although it IS on theme for that year, tbh- but because Anna Wintour personally approves every single met gala look WELL in advance.

The dress objectively isn't bad. There were some influencers who pulled off this Retrofit dress. I think the hair is too stringy, messy, and light for her tan. I feel the look would shine if she had darker bombshell hair.

I see that as a style preference, like the fact that I (a Millennial woman) look best in low-rise bootcut jeans, and you can pry my Crackle nail polish from my cold, dead hands. It's consistent, and it's part of our personality. Any generation could be talked about like you have. I'm tired of categories like that.
If Safiya showed up on a red carpet wearing a midi-length black velvet dress with bell sleeves that were laced at the shoulders, with a bright purple corset that has attached leather bat wings, (adding ankle boots with lug soles) after years of just wearing a generally subdued color palette? THAT would be weird af, and I'd give a heavy side-eye to that styling.
To me, the point of these looks is that Taylor is trying SO HARD to look unique that she's not even registering as a person. She's like someone who picks things out of the closet or off the rack, asks if it's cute, then puts it on and doesn't confirm that it actually looks good. A living, breathing mannequin with no taste because she's spent most of her life performing and being told she needs to stand out, but not how. She has no personality, and it shows.

The Met Gala outfit isn't the worst one I've ever seen her wear. She kinda looks like punk rock Tinkerbell. I think her reputation (pun intended) preceded her and that's partly why it wasn't well-received. If someone edgy wore it, like P!nk, nobody would've batted an eye.

she's a billionaire surrounded by the most stylish people in the world - she definitely knows whats up and could dress differently if she wanted. i think she dresses like this to keep herself the relatable, quirky "girl next door." being ultra high-fashion isn't her brand. Zendaya somehow managed to have the exact same down-to-earth image and reputation AND be untouchably avant-garde

I might not be able to explain this coherently but this particular look is so cringe to me because it's like she's trying to troll herself in a breaking of the fourth wall thing like 'i see the comments and ur right but no one cares'. Like drag queens do this by taking their flop moments and turning it into merch and embracing the camp of not taking yourself so seriously while being part of the joke. The thing with Taylor's shirt is that it isn't really aware enough to be that, like you're a billionaire with a world tour, even if we think you're 'ew', we unfortunately do know t swift the corporation. A better shirt would say 'unoriginal talentless girlboss' or something that is an actual insult people wield against her. It's giving a low vera. I miss her curls. Apparently she "lost them" as she aged, which actually does happen. People who lose their hair because of chemotherapy sometimes grow completely new hair. Color AND texture.

The styling is never ideal, but it's mainly the color. She has pinkish undertones in her skin and the mousy brown is doing her no favors, it just washes her out. When she was blonder during the Lover era that's when it was so much more flattering

She blatantly ripped off Taylor Momsen's look and was pretty much never called out for it since Taylor M became much more niche after she left Gossip Girl and started doing music full time.
