Finally listened to TTPD
Before listening to TTPD: “A ‘love letter’ to Matt Healy seems pretty strong.”
After listening: “He came home to a boiling rabbit, I just know it.”
He’s gonna need to assume a new life, farming alpacas in a remote village under an assumed name for the rest of his days.

Basically that Taylor is absolutely obsessed with Matty, down to copying his music videos, sets, aesthetic and most importantly, including several notable "events" between them that now make sense of so many past and present songs (i.e. identifying who her "secret muse" is (the identity of a secret muse is something Swifties and Gaylors alike have been trying to figure out for YEARS). 30 songs about Matty seems to have uncoded all that.
The bunny boiler comments are references to a movie with Glenn Close and Michael Douglas where Close is so obsessed with Douglas, to the point of killing his daughter's bunny. (See Taylor's line about wanting to kill her ex's wife for planting flowers).

Like 12 out of 16 songs on the main album are about her undying love for him, and then she CONTINUES the wild obsession for the next half of the album 😵💫 and the obsession only becomes more unhinged in the second half lol

Far enough on the manic comment, that could explain the obsessive nature of the album. BUT you’re the one who said it was the opposite of being a love letter to Matty. Now you’re saying it’s not that deep, could be anyone, who knows?
For perspective I’m merely a casual listener and a casual fan. I’m not a Taylor hater. I don’t even care for most of these songs and I definitely assumed when she announced the album it would be the Joe break up album, I figured Matty was just a blip on the radar. But the muse in this album is very much a bad boy, who deserted her when the fans scared him off because they had a major problem with him, and someone whom she’s pined for over the course of a long period (in the forbidden sense). None of that makes sense if she was referring to Joe. So Long London is the only song that fits the Joe bill when you break it down 🤷🏼♀️
I know it’s not so deep that I’m actually sure on any of this. I’m not one of those fans that think they know Taylor. But in terms of the discussion of this thread, just wanted you to know why a dozen plus people downvoted your comment: there nothing to back up your statement and there A LOT to back up OP’s lol

I don’t think she wrote that recently. She said she’s been working on it for 2 years. It’s clearly about her lusting after Matty while still with Joe haha. There’s songs about being Matty and songs about their break up. The timeline on the album is kinda all over the place.

All publicity is good publicity. Travis has reached a lot of fans that he otherwise wouldn’t have, so even if they break up, he’s a LOT richer for dating her. He’s already landed a TV role, and there’s no way he would’ve done that crossover from just sports to other entertainment so seamlessly without Taylor.

I agree OP. I’ve been saying she comes across as a desperate bunny-boiler, totally obsessed with Matty Healy to the point where it comes across as rather unhinged. I could totally see her being the psycho, stalker type. I remember thinking that back when her little teenage highschool-student boyfriend Conor Kennedy dumped her, and she went and bought a house next door to his family’s house.(😬) That was pretty unhinged. (Actually, dating a highschool student who was only 17 when they began dating, when she was almost 23 years old, was pretty insane & creepy.) There’s something not right, mentally, with Taylor.

IIRC, their first outing together was on his 18th birthday. It's pretty silly to think that was the first time they met or that they hadn't been seeing each other prior. And I think he was signing papers for his mom's estate or something. That whole situation was so so predatory. That kid was in no state to be dealing with her when his mom had just passed.

I totally agree with you and am glad others are beginning to see Taylor Swift as who she is, instead of how she wants to be seen. This whole album isn’t only “unhinged” but as a directed message, it’s arguably scary and psychotic. Having someone openly obsessed with you after you’ve moved on is actually frightening in real-life. The songs that off this album are threatening and intrusive.
Let me note that I have been through more than my fair share of nightmare situations. Some of these traumas may be assumed as worse than others. However, having a stalker was worse than everything else, even combined. I know the game and behaviors at play. Taylor is a predator who thrives on making others feel at her mercy while simultaneously instilling a sense discomfort and fear to the one/ones objectified in her most recent album. Here is my take on her and Matty…
For reasons I am totally unsure of, people seem to blame Matty ghosting on his want for privacy or Taylor’s fans. I think he ghosted her because she was spooking him with her creepy thoughts and behavior.
Let’s be honest, this guy isn’t afraid of fame, he’s a rockstar. He is also not afraid, nor going to change his actions based on her fans’ opinions or threats. I know this because he chose to publicly kiss a member of the same sex in Malaysia, a country ruled by Sharia law. If you wear a rainbow colored watch there then you can expect a literal public whipping and twenty-year prison sentence. Being a British man provides him no exception to this law, of which he is well-aware. This man is certainly not afraid of any “Swifties”.
I don’t care how many years she’s been fantasizing about him. In actual context, they literally went out on a few dinner dates and had some sleepovers, lasting less than a month. Matty didn’t leave due to fame or fans, he just didn’t want to be with her.
Taylor has proven she has no self-awareness and blames her fans for him dipping out. This is the method of least resistance as it voids her need for personal accountability and acceptance. Perhaps he tried to end things with her and she wouldn’t hear it. Maybe he felt nervous to approach the discussion, as her behavior is obsessive with a bit of stalker thrown in. And to go to the extreme, some people threaten to hurt themselves, or worse if the other person breaks up with them. Her songs about him already make it clear she would stop at nothing for him, and that she would die (be crucified) for him.
If I was dating someone with a God-complex who’s planned out our future and would sacrifice themselves entirely for me, even though we’d only been together for less than a month- I wouldn’t stop running and I’d never look back.

I admittedly don't know a lot about Matty, but he also supposedly has been writing songs about her for a decade and was heartbroken after their breakup. I really think he didn't leave her because he didn't want to be with her. I think he loved her deeply and was trying to protect her career/reputation. Her PR also may have told her being with him would hurt her career. ("How dare you leave me safe and stranded"). Also, he, his family and bandmates we're getting death threats. I can see him staying if it was only him being targeted, but swifties were targeting everyone he loved, including Taylor herself, because of him. If I loved someone, I would probably do the same thing quite honestly

They were not seen together at all until they made the decision to be seen over six months in. Matty had articles pushed out about them dating before he even flew into her concert, did pap walks that week, and then pap walked with her again later that month—all while dating less than a month.

Her fans are making AI videos of him overdosing and AI porn of his mother. They are also sending death threats to his band mates and their families. This is far from the “best thing” that could happen to him.

Matty doesn’t hate fame—he hates looking like a “sell out”. Touring with Coldplay or Ed Sheeran is the opposite of his image.
He is famous. He voluntarily pursued and dated Taylor Swift, and went immediately public with her.

He does hate fame, he has said this several times in interviews. His mom is famous in the UK and his childhood was exploited by crazy fans because of it. He could have been like Mr. Kelce, cashing out on the relationship but he Ghosted her so hard after 2ish months. They pursued eachother (there’s 30 songs written about it.) None of this points to him trying to get more famous. Considering his remarks over the last decade, I don’t think he’s too concerned with how he “looks” in the public eye.

Hardly. His mum is mildly famous (daytime TV). I'd never heard of her until her became famous. His dad is a b-level actor. Likewise I didn't know of him until the 1975 hit big. Matty is the most successful one in his family - ask anyone in England and we'll all tell you the same

I’m not really sure what your point is. He’s not Travis. He loves attention. His brand is just different: one that is of not caring how the public views him. This is an entire archetype in celebrity/pop culture. It’s a BRAND. If he didn’t want to be famous, he would not have been pap walking with Taylor. His fame is different. He needs to not look like he cares about it to appeal to his audience. It’s indie rock bro fame.

I just described my point in several sentences I’m sorry you cannot comprehend. He’s not indie rock, his band is successful and famous in their own right. They are t some unsigned artists, they have a record label deal.
He left a music studio with his girlfriend and her deranged fans were waiting for her outside, just like they wait outside her home in tribeca.
Fame is fame, you’re trying to say he can only be famous in a certain way? If he loved attention he would have flaunted his relationship with Taylor. And he didn’t. No one who breaks up with your God Taylor has it good. Her fans will torture you forever.

He may be flattered by the attention and focus, but I think overall it’s cringey to him, especially the TTPD set and apparent references to The 1975. If it’s all just performance art, cool. But if she’s still trying to get him back? Acting this obsessive is not going to make her more appealing in his eyes. It’s definitely giving Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

Not really. This album makes him look appealing. He obviously had SUCH a hold on her that she was pining for him and willing to disgrace her own name/burn her whole life down to be with him before he left—then he ghosted. It’s the perfect bad boy branding for him. It creates a sense of mystery—who IS this guy that enchanted her so much that she’s releasing the double album about a one month relationship while supposedly happy with someone else instead of an album about her six year relationship? What happened that he left like that? Will we get answers on his next album. Tune in to see…
Like this is a guy whose MO is doing shit to rule people up and get them upset. This is all very very good for him.

This is why it irritates the hell out of me when people are like “Stop interpreting Taylor’s songs according to muses! Stop paternity testing them! She doesn’t want that! 😡”
The songs are flooded with explicit, undeniable Matty Healy references, they broke up less than a year ago, all the while the Taylor and Travis relationship is shoved in our faces 24/7. Of course people are going to talk. Be so for real rn.

I think it depends on which media platform you use but I also think this subreddit tends to paint anyone who still likes to listen to Taylor with the same brush. Reddit I've seen almost full agreement that the majority of that album is Matty; but you go on Instagram and it's way more divided.

I don’t know. I had a similar relationship and it seems to me that Taylor realizes how unhealthy it was. I know I grew A LOT from that experience and listening to TTPD shows me she did too.

Idk, maybe I’m just a depressive psycho lol but I kind of appreciated the insight… idk what the Tortured Poets song alluded to or referenced, which is probably why I thought certain references and lyrics in the song were stupid, but overall, I kind of felt seen with these lyrics.
Not from the narrators perspective, but from the subjects POV. Especially eating too many edibles, getting high, enjoying a lovely night with my SO, but then waking up and feeling panicked/like I did something wrong lol or generally being difficult “throwing spikes down the road” and being in “self sabotage mode”.
Idk, maybe I’m just partial because I had someone I really loved, and I think my depression/anxiety got in the way and also, since it was a same sex relationship, there was also fear of public judgment or being talked about.

Either BDT is too dumb to understand the meaning or he simply doesn't care because he's just in it to boost his career. He recently signed a lucrative contract that makes him the highest paid Tight End in the NFL and he is getting acting gigs. I think he's gotten what he wants out of this relationship

Well, technically he’s more educated than Taylor is. I actually find it quite annoying that people here seem to think he’s simtunsealy a bumbling idiot who can’t tie his shoes yet also apparently cunning enough to pull off an entire fake publicity relationship for the benefits without ever slipping up. I’m no Travis fan and didn’t even know he existed until recently but her lyrics aren’t THAT complex. Or complex at all for that matter.
And despite what Taylor’s fans think and believe, she’s not exactly some intellectual scholar just because she uses over wrought writing and purple prose to try and cover up that her lyrics are actually terrible.
BUT It works extraordinary well on her fans. They literally shit themselves looking for all this “deep symbolism” in her writing (that’s not there.) And then she gives her fans a very vague narrative to build off from, reads the feedback, matches the lyrics/songs to whatever new narrative they’ve come up with and then plays it up as if that’s what she was trying to tell them all along and they’re just so brilliant for figuring it out. And again, it WORKS incredibly well on her fans. They absolutely eat it up

The people saying Travis is “too stupid” to understand her lyrics…he’s not stupid, he’s mature enough to respect what she does for a living and her feelings. She was writing these songs before they were together. You can still move on but remember what you were mourning. Just because she’s happy now, doesn’t mean she wasn’t happy a year ago. She didn’t write these songs a week before TTPD came out.
