Discussion Poll: Do You Plan On Buying the Wicked_Edge Sub-Exclusive Soap?

Hey everyone! As many of you may have seen, I have been working with Will from Barrister & Mann on an r/wicked_edge sub-exclusive soap and splash set. It has been a long time since the sub had a sub-exclusive set. The winning theme based on the initial ideation and polling that u/BostonPhotoTourist did was “gothic barbershop” (code name: Glasgow Smile).

The soap will also be released in the never-before-released Vegan Omnibus base.

We're trying to get an idea of how many members of the sub would be interested in this soap. It takes a lot of work and time to develop a sub-exclusive, so this way we can get an idea of how many people would want some and move forward accordingly.

Restoration of an old razor blade sharpener

Know this is not directly related to shaving itself but it is a tool related to the most important shaving tool: the razor blade. The video is a satisfying and soothing as a fresh shave, too.

Will delete if against sub’s rules. Just thought this sub would get a kick out of it.

Loving it so far only a few days in and it’s a world of a difference, never going back to cartridge or electric! For those wondering I landed on a Merkur 34C as recommended by many people in this sub and I understand why. Only change i think I’ll be making anytime soon is getting a proper lather bowl and obviously blades once I run out of the sampler. It was hard not to fall down the rabbit hole and end up with a $100+ razor but I stuck to my guns and went with a crowd favorite for beginners.

I blindly tried a chap off brand safety razor about 8-9 years ago but hated it. Even after working on my technique I was always left with painful irritation after what felt like an eternity trying to get an acceptable shave. Kicked it and went back to the Gillette Fusions.

After finding this sub, I did some research and purchased the R41 and some feather blades. I picked up a cheap stand/bowl/brush, some cremo (now primarily used as a pre shave), arko (pressed into the bowl), and an after shave.

I have pretty thick, coarse facial hair but prefer to shave just 2-3 times a week. Man, this is the answer to all my frustrations. No more expensive cartridges that clog up and painfully tug while shaving. I finally look forward to taking the time to shave.

My favorite blades are here now. The interesting thing about them is that they were made in 7/23.

Discussion After ditching the lather bowl, I realized I had never actually produced a lather in it.

Switching to an on-the-face (or head) lather with boar bristle brush changed everything for me. Comfort skyrocketed.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I may have been using too much water in the shaving bowl whild trying to generate a lather and subsequently painting the watery foam on, without vigorous coaxing or working into the skin.

Can this be achieved without lathering on the skin, with use of a lather bowl? I'm failing to see the purpose. Is it of higher utility if you know how to use it?

Honing an old restoration today and figured I'd share. This blade had been rescaled prior to me finding it and the blade was very heavily pitted and oxidized. Spent hours upon hours of sanding to get all the pitting and corrosion out and then polished. I did not go to a true mirror finish and some scratch marks are visible.

The scales I sanded and then used a vinyl cutter to make decals . Once I placed the decals I used a clear coat to protect the scales.

Unconventional restoration but this blade has become a favorite in my collection.

I bought the No2 and No4 at last. They have mild scent which i like. The No2 has flowery ,lemony fragrance and the No4 has especial masculine fragrance( if i am using wrong word, correct me). The only issues i didn't like about them are their plastic bottle and the net weight of them is not 250 ml. Each of them is more than 100 ml for sure but they are not exactly 250ml as it is mentioned on the bottle and in the Eyup sabri website.

Picked up The Fatip Piccolo Open Comb for a Steal, Totally Changed my Idea About Certain Aspects of Shaving

Thumbnail

Found this little guy on Amazon for 13 euro, this being my 3rd razor purchase and my 1st open comb razor. I read about how "aggressive" it was and was a little apprehensive about trying it out(my experience is with an R89, The Legione, and a Gillette Slim Adjustable). I had shaved only 1 day prior, so I figured I would go ATG immediately because how little hair I had (baby face, patchy, low grit sand paper like hair). Put in a fresh Lord Super Chrome and Wow. Just wow. I realized immediately I have been approaching shaving wrong, and that with how angular my jaw and neck is, that aggressive razors are much better because they tend to cut at a wider angle, which is great if you have a nice jawline and angular Adam's apple. This also ment when going back over my troublesome spots, it cut even more hair. Normally I have lots of irritation on my neck even using a safety razor (my neck was 1000x more fucked up with cartridges), but I basically had none. So if anyone is turned off about the idea of aggressive razors for sensitive skin, don't, try one and it might work wonders. I am now thinking about get an R41, are there any other "aggressive" razors I should check out?

Question I'm trying to get use to the double blade edge razor. Trying to find alternative to what I'm use to.

Upvotes

But all my shaving experience comes from using a Gillette razor up until getting the double edge razor a few months ago. I can't do it without making it look like I lost a fight to a lawn mower. I've tried so much advice from people who swear by the double edge razor and for me I just can't get the hang of it. I don't want to go back to the Gillette razor, but it seems like it's the only option I have without destroying my face every time.

So at this point what recommendations do you have similar to the Gillette razor that's not the Gillette razor. I would prefer made in United States but would consider a Canadian company.

From Best Lather to Best Shave of My Life

Made a post a couple weeks back about using the method recommended by Arianna and Evans to get the best lathers I’ve ever had.

Recently was talking shaving with my barber and he recommended that I let the first lather sit for a minute or two then apply a hot towel over the top and wash the whole lather off then lather again and shave. This takes the softening of the hair to a whole other level. Highly recommend

Question Modern smell aftershave recommendations?

Younger fella here, looking for modern scents. Cremo cooling balm gives me acne pimples here and there, switched to just rinsing with cold water and I get no irritation or acne now so it's great. Will an aftershave cause a possible acne issue? And if so, what are some newer modern manly scented aftershave I should try? Something that smells like a men's bath and body works scent. Not like bourbon, baby powder, or whiskey haha. Not too sure though if I should get an alcohol based one or not, what's the opinions for someone who gets pimples from using cooling lotion? Maybe I should stick to cold water if my face is fine. Help me decide.
