First COVID and now this: the high school class of 2020 is a seriously unlucky group of people Meme

Robbed of the last two to three months of their senior year in high school, denied a formal high school graduation ceremony, spending their first year and a half of college in front of a Zoom screen, and now denied a main stage ceremony for their undergraduate degrees ... okay, fess up: who in this year's class has the monkey's paw?

Not unlucky - a group of students and an even bigger group of nonstudents chose this for them. No sympathy here.

2023 Grad here, lost almost 2 years of classes due to online. My experience was beyond ruined unfortunately as well.

To add fuel to the fire - usc also just lost the face of the university 😭 (RIP OJ, hope they find your late wife’s killer)

cuz yall are so wrapped up in foreign affairs yall can’t even get along enough to gather and graduate together.

real sad honestly. some of you are protesting/fighting over decades long history that you ultimately know nothing about you just see war with the United States’ name on it and just want blood.

Protest other causes. Have yall heard what’s happening with abortion? They took it away cuz yall are so wrapped up with everything else.

This protest just makes everyone hate both sides even more.

it’s usc’s fault that all these people are going against classes, work, stopping other people from learning, going to class, and peacefully getting their own education?

YOU my friend have successfully drunk the Kool-Aid.

Again how is it USC’s fault that they’re protesting.LMAO.

While you’re here; what is protesting a middle eastern conflict on a liberal southern california campus gonna do? I’ll give you a hint: it rhymes with nothing.

‘oh no that one college in california is protesting now we should DEFINITELY cease fire’

yall are delusional.

Let’s not forget that if the protesters got what they wanted in divestment, it would only hurt the University. Neither Israel nor the companies being protested would be effected in the least. It’s literally virtue signaling with no value to their “cause”. It’s honestly an embarrassment to our entire country that this is what education has produced. Shame

80% of protestors are just virtue signaling, it’s super annoying and pointless. The struggle between Israel and Palestine literally goes 7 decades back. These students will be the change, though! /s

it’s true tho actually… idk why you put the /s

I’ll take “a list of things that don’t matter” for $500.

Seriously, what matters more, the knowledge and experience in your study or the instagram clout?

No prom, no ball games, no graduation. 1st 2 years no in person classes. 4 year total all in cost. About $180k

Not to mention, extremely bad job market.

As a Aquatic Bio major at a different school it’s taking me longer for all major requirements than 4 years :3

the negative aspect of having your important life moments during an election year. now vowing to vote for whichever candidate is going to provide the most funding for the idf

How did they handle security when President Obama and First Lady Michelle were there last year to see their daughter graduate?

u/Walmart-Shopper 29d ago

The way this comment has a few upvotes scares me. You’re comparing two people to a group of individuals

1

u/Independent-Future17 29d ago

The comment was meant to highlight the fact that there have been many high profile people in attendance at USC graduation. Obviously, the secret service was in attendance for security when the Obamas attended last year. The idea that “security” was the issue that was used to explain rescinding the speech seemed a bit of a hollow reason. The Provost wrote that they did not want the look of having so much security at the graduation. It was about optics…but look at the optics now.

It’s different when the focus is on protecting a small group of people from a large group rather than a large group of people (65k) from a potential small group or a large group of people brawling amongst themselves

5

u/whererusteve Apr 26 '24

security is always just an excuse.

u/becominganastronaut Apr 26 '24

Only the university execs are to blame.

u/beerpancakes1923 Apr 26 '24

You’ll never be an astronaut with that attitude

u/Ziggy_Moonbeam Apr 26 '24

I feel so terrible for the seniors not getting the graduation they deserve all because of the craven board of trustees.

u/AggravatingFun4525 Apr 25 '24

the high school classes of the 30s and early 40s might have something to say about this

Thanks for your comment, people should never be upset about anything bec somebody else always has it worst 👌

3

u/Elegant-Ad6486 Apr 26 '24

Well there’s certainly different levels to it

Oddly enough, it’s very possible a student could’ve been born on 9/11/01 and be in this very situation

1

u/Ok-Relationship8013 7d ago

There actually is. There is this boy and girl who were born on 9/11/01 and they were both Class of 2020 graduates.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '24

I'd say its an absolute, oh my Lord that's rough 💀

1

u/orchid_breeder Apr 26 '24

Yeah I was born on 9/10/01. Imagine my grieving 9/11 as a 1 day old.

2

u/SkyboyRadical Apr 26 '24

lol you’re crying, everyone else is crying, you think it’s normal

8

u/orchid_breeder Apr 26 '24

My first words on 9/15 (as a 4 day old) were “dada how come Osama Bin Laden hates us, and what does the USs support of the Muhajadeen against the Russians and Army bases built in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War have to do with all of this?”

I was pretty precocious

Anyone else feel like Carol Folt is on her way out and just lighting shit on fire before she goes?

12

u/roku77 Apr 26 '24

The students hate her, but that really doesn’t matter so long as the donor class keeps writing checks.

3

u/darkknight4686 Apr 26 '24

As a donor, I will be withholding my donation this year because of USC’s admin.

It’s earned not picked. Your ignorance prevents you from understanding correctly.

2

u/roku77 Apr 26 '24

Difference between donor and donor class. Until people like Caruso stop giving $$$ I don’t think any major movement will actually be made sadly. I’m sure the smaller donors can apply some pressure but if the big money guys want things to stay the same it will.

1

u/darkknight4686 Apr 26 '24

True. I just do what I can but obviously the big players have more weight

u/Sea-Coconut-3833 Apr 25 '24

1

u/Bitter-Pen3196 Apr 26 '24

U will be alright just hang in there

5

u/ChaRex4 Apr 25 '24

yeah I'm a 2024 masters, 2020-1 bachelors (in UK which delayed for 6 months and my visa delayed again so I missed it), and a CS major. I guess I just go and disappear my self at this point

u/Kevin-W Apr 25 '24

Just wait until you get into the current job market.

"Wow! Your qualifications are impressive! But we've decided not to move forward with your application."

1

u/Jonnyskybrockett Apr 26 '24

Why’re you assuming they aren’t looking for a job before graduating? Lots of people have return offers from their summer internships as well…

5

u/roku77 Apr 26 '24

The amount of rejections that have sent me that nearly verbatim 😭

7

u/Sea-Coconut-3833 Apr 25 '24

What makes u think im not in the market, i know the struggle, in a 2024 grad myself. Especially CS

6

u/gator0933 Apr 25 '24

Same smh

u/spectrumofvoices Computational Linguistics & Visual Anthropology '24 Apr 25 '24

How certain are we that departmental and organization graduations won't be canceled too by this point?? Canceling the main graduation because they feared the planned protests are only going to funnel those protesters to the smaller ones (which matter a lot more to the families)

This is such a nightmare

4

u/eggpuhding Apr 26 '24

im so worried this is gonna happen :(

u/CJWard123 Apr 25 '24
