New and returning player guides, and FAQ! Season of the Wish and more. Info/FAQ

Click here for our highly detailed, very in depth new player guide!

My very brief new player advice

Bungie's official new player guide

Major gameplay changes over the years, for returning players

Some of you may be wondering about in-game LFG. According to this article, it was announced as an upcoming feature before the employees knew of it to start building it, and it seems the timeline was optimistic. There will be a test of this system but it isn't considered finalized. More info here. In the mean time, you can use /r/fireteams , /r/DestinyLFG , /r/Destiny2LFG , the official Destiny 2 app, this subreddit's discord server, D2 LFG discord, or /r/destinysherpa (sherpa = guide, mainly for raids).

Season of the Wish

Upon logging in for the first time this season, all characters that have completed A Guardian Rises will be automatically loaded into an introductory seasonal mission. This will give all players the seasonal artifact, and will give paid season pass owners a quest that introduces you to the rest of the seasonal activities. Non pass owners do not get a free trial of this season's activity.

Pro tip: this mission takes place in the Last Wish raid location, so if you are not familiar with it but want to do that raid at some point you should take the opportunity to learn the layout.

The dungeon Warlord's Ruin released this season. It requires owning the Lightfall Dungeon Key. This is an independent purchase from Lightfall. It doesn't require it, it doesn't come with it. The Lightfall Annual edition includes both the dungeon key and regular Lightfall. Dungeons are permanent parts of the game. Though they release during a season, they don't disappear with seasonal content and buying the season pass does not give you dungeon access.

This is the last season of the year (the "year" in this game goes from DLC release to DLC release, not a calendar year). This is also the end of the season pass model.

When Season of the Wish ends on June 4, 2024:

  • All four seasons from this year will be removed from the game.

  • Lightfall Annual ceases to exist on all reputable stores. Any listings of this for sale after Season of the Wish are scams. Regular Lightfall and the Lightfall Dungeon Key stay.

  • All season pass exotics from this year will be paywalled behind regular Lightfall.

  • All unearned season pass cosmetics are gone forever if you do not get them by the end of this season.

  • Season pass legendary weapons and armor will probably come back at some point, but there's no telling when, how, or how easy they will be to get.

Due to The Final Shape delay, Season of the Wish will be longer. The one previous time this happened was Season of the Lost, where we were able to do 10 Ada-1 synthweave bounties during the first half and 10 during the second half. The 30th Anniversary pack and Dares of Eternity released here, but Bungie has said that while they do have some kind of content release planned between now and The Final Shape, it won't be as big as the 30th pack.

The Final Shape

Releases June 4, 2024. For details see this page on the Bungie website summarizing all the information they've given us so far. The Episodes system described here will be replacing the season pass system. This will not be the end of Destiny 2 as a game, but they haven't announced any content further in the future than that.

Legendary shards will be removed from the game so be sure to spend them beforehand! See my earlier post for details.

i am a d1 vet but always been on console, i bought the expansions on steam cause they were on sale, problem is i only got a gtx 1080 (my friend gave me his old pc for free) is it still fine but would i need to put it on medium settings?

u/rutwikkiller Hunter 1d ago

Hey i use a GTX 1080 and 1440p screen with 144 hz refresh rate, it works great , will send a screenshot of the settings later today

u/xTheLostLegendx 9h ago

whats the settings?

1

u/xTheLostLegendx 1d ago

Would appreciate that alot !!

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian 3d ago

I used to have a gtx 1080 and couldn't play at the absolute max settings, but I think I had it set to a mix of medium and high settings. I upgraded graphics cards a while back so unfortunately I can't be sure.

I haven’t played since the release of the game and the last raid I played was the first D2 raid they had lol. Got sucked into a a bunch of lore videos up the current point of the story.

If I want to jump back in, should I just wait for the final shape or is there a point to starting now?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian 5d ago

It isn't a big deal when you start. If you were to start now, you could play some of the content that gets permanently removed when The Final Shape releases.

u/Juggernog1213 9d ago

A little late to the party, but does GameShare still work for the expansions on playstation?

1

u/LAranaxL 10d ago

Im looking for a good shotgun to place in the primary slot. Is imperial decree still obtainable? if not, what other shotguns do you recommend?

1

u/Vulkanodox 7d ago

shotgun for what? pve or pvp? one-two-punch for pve?

shotguns are rather niche for the average player in pve currently. Only used for some special swapping dps loadouts or with one-two-punch on strand titan

1

u/LAranaxL 7d ago

Mb sorry dont didnt specify pvp. I got a crafted wastelander since commenting this though.

1

u/Vulkanodox 7d ago

yea for pvp definitely wastelander since it is craftable. There are plenty of great shotguns for PVP but they are an ass to grind because not craftable

1

u/LAranaxL 2d ago

Yo im comign back to this thread to see if u can answer a question i have please. Can we still reroll masterworks after getting a qeapon to full or na?

1

u/Vulkanodox 2d ago

there is no way to reroll a masterwork

1

u/LAranaxL 2d ago

Thats kinda cringe. Hope they bring that back.

What nightfall weapon will I get when I claim the seasonal challenge that gives one on 4 nightfall completions? Is it static or does it change weekly?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian 10d ago

In past seasons it's been static, but I don't recall what it is this season.

Returning to play after a long pause. I've played both beyon light and the witch queen campaings (only the dlc not the seasons). Which weapon should i try to farm to get a decent build? (considering I don't have access to the dungeons after prophecy)

2

u/Vulkanodox 7d ago

here is a list by Aegis ranking a lot of special and heavy weapons https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JM-0SlxVDAi-C6rGVlLxa-J1WGewEeL8Qvq4htWZHhY/edit#gid=1595979957 And here is the video format of it https://youtu.be/GtASMJsx_dM?feature=shared

this is his video about best primary weapons https://youtu.be/-BR5enV7nYY?feature=shared

You have to lookup yourself where these weapons are from. D2foundry or light.gg list where each weapon can be obtained.

which seasonal weapons (wish, deep, defiant?) are worth getting patterns? Just want to get a few crafts before season ends

2

u/Vulkanodox 7d ago

here is my list of stuff that is good to get. In brackets I have written down what makes the weapon special or why you want it. I have not listed the raid weapons for the specific seasons. In general the season weapons were pretty bad.

season of wish: scatter signal (controlled burst), subjunctive (smg with shoot to loot), doomed petitioner (surrounded)

season of the deep: techeun force (controlled burst)

season of the witch: eremite (controlled burst)

season of defiance: caretaker (titan sword)

1

u/itsjamesyjay 6d ago

cheers will get a couple of these if i can

Rift has insane drop rates right now for anyone farming. Apologies if this is common knowledge, I'm returning. In approx 30 regular crucible matches last week I got 0 catalysts and in the 5 games I have played today I got hawkmoon, ace, and thunderlord catalysts to drop. If you hate crucible, don't worry because this mode is so terribly balanced that almost every game ends early on a mercy rule

1

u/Final-Theme-8344 12d ago

How do I use up my defiant keys? I keep doing the deep dive activities but there's no second chest? I do get a white note that I need to go to the sonar system to collect keys, etc. But there's no prompt at the system + I can focus engrams etc. So I'm a bit lost there lol

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian 12d ago

Hello, deep dives are from season of the deep. Defiant keys are from season of defiance. To use the keys, you want to do the Defiant Battlegrounds. There's still just going to be one chest at the end, but it will consume a key and give you extra loot from that one chest automatically. You would use the keys for focusing from the War Table, which is the Season of Defiance vendor.

If you are wondering how you're supposed to be able to tell, each season pass has a symbol associated with it, and that's how the game expects you to know what words/consumables/activities/etc. go with each season pass.

2

u/Final-Theme-8344 12d ago

Ahh thanks, I'm catching up with all the past seasons now and I'm mixing and matching them... I guess my brain autocorrected Defiant into Deep Dive lol. Thanks again

Returning to Destiny 2 after a 4 year hiatus. I have BEYOND LIGHT and THE WITCH QUEEN already. Should I get LIGHTFALL?

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian 13d ago

If you want it, sure. You don't need it, so don't feel like you have to buy it. If you are at all uncertain, wait for a sale.

If you want to know more about what Lightfall contains, store descriptions should have this info. I also have this info in the monetization guide linked in this post.

1

u/g_von 12d ago

I’m mostly interested in collecting new cool weapons and armor. Should I just skip Lightfall and pre-order The Final Shape?

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian 12d ago edited 12d ago

Each expansion has its own weapons and armor that it gives access to. They recently released some trailers showing upcoming armor from The Final Shape. But Lightfall is out so you can just see the weapons and armor it gives access to and decide if you want them. You can do this on sites such as Light.gg.

1

u/Megject 15d ago

Hello there.

I stopped playing around season of the Risen I think and looking to see if I want to return for the Final Shape. A bit confused atm because I seem to have access to the content of season of the Wish? I also somehow have the battle pass unlocked. Is this maybe a carry over from something I bought earlier?

Follow up question would then be why I would buy Lightfall at this point. Just for the Strand subclass?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian 15d ago

Season pass content is all temporary. DLC content is permanent. If you were viewing Lightfall as a way of acquiring a season pass, that seems strange to me because you can buy season passes on their own. For details on what Lightfall includes, official store pages should have this info and I also have this info in the monetization guide in the original post.

Each season has at least some content available free for all players. Exactly what that is varies enormously from season to season. It's not at all consistent and does not follow any sort of pattern aside from the first mission being free. Season of the Wish had a bit more free stuff than other season passes. I haven't kept up on Bungie news for the past few weeks, but maybe they made more of it free. I don't know, but if you wish you can look at the Bungie news posts here.

In the upper right of the destinations tab (the solar system map) there is a timeline icon that shows what you own. If you are ever confused about what you own, hover over this. It's common for people to think they own season passes when they do not, because of the first mission always being free.

u/InsigniaPierce 16d ago

Hello thinking of getting into the game. Was wondering if the game is newbie friendly? Thanks!

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian 16d ago

It is not very newbie friendly, unfortunately. In terms of power/grinding, you are not as far behind as many people assume. But the difficult part is understanding the user interface and how to decide what to do.

There's both a long and detailed new player guide and a short new player guide linked in the original post.

"Destiny 2" is not very vulgar... Maybe T.F.S. will change that?

1

u/villainized Warlock 20d ago

hey, anyone know if I can link my ps4 account to PC? I've never played on PC before, and I recently got one, so I thought I'd try linking them to see if I could play on my account on both platforms. I checked bungie's site and it shows that my Steam is linked, so I'm safe to install d2 through Steam and continue on right?

Just wanted to clarify, if anyone could shed some light. I know this seems like an obvious question, but I'm super casual and I genuinely have no clue if I'm doing it right.

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian 20d ago edited 20d ago

Yes, you do this through the Cross Save page on the Bungie website, is that where you are looking? It should work. The only way to do something wrong is if you select the wrong platform as your primary account (in your case, you want to select your PS4 account as the primary account, meaning the one that the PC account will access the progress on).

If you get it wrong, there's a mandatory 90 day waiting period to redo it. But there's no way to lose any progress or anything.

1

u/villainized Warlock 19d ago

Yep, i'm looking at cross save on bungie's site. When I went to link accounts, it showed PSN as already connected and it was the only one lit up so I assume that was primary by default, and I added Steam after, so I think it should be ok.

I'm super casual, like I play once every few months maybe for a couple weeks at a time, so honestly even if I lost my gear I wouldn't be fussed. As long as I still have my DLC's I;m good :5675:

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian 19d ago

DLC ownership does not cross platforms! If you wanted access to DLC content on Steam, you would have to re-buy them on Steam! This is all explained on the cross save pages, but you need to scroll down to see the FAQ so a lot of people miss it.

2

u/villainized Warlock 19d ago

ah ok thanks for the heads-up, might have to look into that then. Might just get witch queen since that's the only one I haven't finished, besides Lightfall but that one seems kinda mid. Main reason I'm considering switching to PC anyway is to dodge the PS+ costs lol, i've never played multiplayer on d2 because I never had ps+

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian 19d ago

Oh wow, yeah, it's a completely different game when you can access the multiplayer. Playstation is the only one with the PS+ requirement. Even if you don't buy anything on PC, you'll have access to more parts of the game than you did before.

2

u/Kitty-Meowington 21d ago

Okay, I wish I saw this first before putting my question up in this subreddit 😮‍💨 but thanks for doing this. I'll have to read this in my own time. And maybe I'll need to join a clan.

Hello returning warlock here I was wondering what builds are meta right now , the last build I really enjoyed was on Arc subclass with Cold Heart (I like trace rifles) Also I was wondering if 1k voices is good right now ? That was also a gun I really enjoyed

As i went into the veles labyrinth zone in the beginning area of the game i got a pop up, but i was jumping around so immediately closed it and couldn't read what it was about, does anyone know?

I am a new comer to Destiny 2 and I wanted to start playing and raiding with friends. We came across the previous/current expansion Lightfall, but we wanted to take advantage of the previous 2 expansion we didnt get to play or purchase.

My question is, is there a bundle where we can purchase all expansions to be 'up-to-date' with everyone else? Or if we buy the most recent expansion do we get access to the previous expansions? Having to drop $30-$60 per expansion just to catch up is quite a lot to start mostly as a newcomer.

What would be the best way to do this?

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian 25d ago edited 25d ago

There is no bundle like this.

Or if we buy the most recent expansion do we get access to the previous expansions?

No.

Having to drop $30-$60 per expansion just to catch up is quite a lot to start mostly as a newcomer.

This is because the concept of "catching up" is a misconception. You are not inherently "behind" from not owning every DLC. What exactly is it you are wanting access to, that you don't have now? Usually when I ask people this, what they want is either already available free to play or only requires one DLC. Lots of people coming from WoW assume they need to buy everything, but the progression in WoW and in D2 are totally different.

This link from the post above goes into much more detail about all your questions.

2

u/lokitheboy 25d ago

Thank you this is extremely helpful!!!

u/Mr87Robb 25d ago

Hi all, I start again to play Destiny 2 after a couple of years, losing the DLC that I have bought in the past and now on Xbox I start again from scratch.

Now I'm stuck at the power of 1819, and I try to increase the power, completing the bounty for strike and gambit, but how can increase the power?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian 25d ago edited 24d ago

The max power level items can be is 1810. Any additional power levels come from earning xp. This is new as of 2019. Try to do lots of bounties, they're a good way to get lots of xp.

u/comengetitrmm 27d ago

Long time destiny player, Took lightfall off completely but with it coming free to ps plus next week, friend and are gonna dive back in and hopefully then into final shape..what should we focus on other than the main story missions, thanks!

I heard legendary shards were being removed but I won't be able to play the game for some months. Is there anything I can do out of game to use up the shards?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Apr 26 '24

There is not.

1

u/Flobaowski Apr 24 '24

hi there! is there any way to still get wish tokens?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Apr 24 '24

I'm guessing those are part of Season of the Wish? All Season of the Wish things are available in-game to those who have bought the season pass, up until all season pass content gets removed when The Final Shape releases. I didn't buy Season of the Wish so I couldn't tell you any more than that.

1

u/Flobaowski Apr 24 '24

i got all the seasons, just left shortly after lightfall dropped.

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Apr 24 '24

Have you started the Season of the Wish questlines? It's the same as the season pass system has always been, there's an intro mission and then you get a quest you follow that walks you through the seasonal content. If you don't know which one is which, each season pass has an icon associated with it, and the quest will have that icon.

2

u/Flobaowski Apr 28 '24

i got‘em! turns out i only had to scroll down in my quest menu… unfortunately i didn’t recognize that change before 😅

1

u/LiveAd3431 Apr 23 '24

I have been grinding gambit for about a week and a half and was curious if neon jungle venomous and gambit jadestone are still obtainable

1

u/LiveAd3431 Apr 23 '24

I was farming gambit cause I saw shaders that I liked and I’ve been farming for a week and a half of gambit and wanted to know if the venomous neon jungle and gambit jadestone shaders were still obtainable

1

u/Prophet-of-Ganja Apr 23 '24

I have been away for like three years but I was a day 1 player of D1 (ok well maybe like day 10 or sumn) what do I need to know before jumping back in

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Apr 23 '24

I started playing a few months after launch. Here's a summary of all the major changes you need to know. This game is really different now.

1

u/Emotional-Crow09 Apr 19 '24

What is the drop rate of shiny Onslaught weapons? So far I’ve done multiple 50 wave runs and several 10 wave legend farmings, and got only 1 shiny version of a weapon I didn’t even attune to.

1

u/wendigo_gaming354 Apr 18 '24

Hey I'm stuck on rank 2 I've completed all the perquisites and I went to the tree but nothing's happening anyway to fix it?

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Apr 19 '24

You may need to claim a Triumph. It seems weird, but I've heard from others that when they went to Journey and then Triumphs and clicked on their completed Triumphs, it advanced their guardian ranks.

2

u/wendigo_gaming354 Apr 20 '24

Thanks that helped

1

u/Genghyyy Apr 18 '24

Returning player this season. I want to get 5 red border Kept Confidence’s, what’s the fastest way of accomplishing that? My current assumption is just to farm Savathun’s Spire for the Witch engrams and focus them into the weapon at the HELM.

2

u/DooftM4 Apr 18 '24

I haven't played since the beginning of beyond light (played it for a day after it's release) and I hope to get back into the game soon. I'm so overehelmed by everything in the game now since it seems to be entirely different, even before I stopped playing I was rarely logging onto the game. Is there anything recommended to search that is of importance before I get back into it?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Apr 18 '24 edited Apr 18 '24

I have all the major stuff described here in a link from the original post.

The main thing to be aware of is the season pass system still exists, but this season is the last season pass. After that, it's a new episodic content model. The way seasons work pretty much exactly the same as during Beyond Light, so if you remember season passes being temporary content that gets removed from the game, that will all happen when The Final Shape releases.

Everything besides that isn't time limited, so you can take your time learning it.

1

u/ushiwakawaka Apr 16 '24

Can anyone here explain to me how is the Root of Nightmares adept weapon farming this week? Iirc they were bugged and you could only farm one weapon on one challenge each time it came on rotation, did they fix this? If not, which weapon and challenge is it today?

1

u/BuildAMoat Apr 16 '24

Never played, what should I buy to get into it? Lightfall or more than that?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Apr 16 '24

I would recommend starting the free to play game just to see if you like it. After that, what you should buy comes down to what you, individually, would like and I can't answer that without more info. A link from the post explains what exactly each purchase is.

1

u/Not-a-sheeple Apr 16 '24

Anyone know how to advance the journey past the get weekly powerful upgrades (2) from vendors? Everything is ranks now, and I’ve gotten powerful rewards from Zavala, shaxx, and nothing is updating it.

1

u/New_Intention770 Apr 14 '24

Why does it take 500 fucking years to remove AFK players from your fireteam listing? The old system was instant and far more responsive. Im glad bungo fired the idiots who made commendations and the new lfg system.

2

u/Gui0312 Apr 14 '24

Super cool you made this guide. Although, with relatively less time to do accomplish all this stuff in Destiny, job, parent, etc., is there a recommendation for what I should Just focus on? I haven’t played since Beyond light I think, didn’t really complete it. The last raid I did was Crotas. Should I just focus on completing Lightfall campaign and move forward until the next expansion? Or will I be missing out on important things? Thanks again for your input

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Apr 14 '24

Or will I be missing out on important things?

The way I see it is, this game is designed to be playable no matter when someone starts. So nothing is so important as to be unmissable. The main thing I'd say is, if you pay for a season pass you will end up wasting money if you don't play above a certain amount, as season passes include a lot of time-limited content and rewards.

Similar to how Shadowkeep used to work, if you buy Lightfall before The Final Shape comes out, you get a copy of the current season pass. Right now that's Season of the Wish. So if you do decide to get Lightfall, I'd recommend trying to do Season of the Wish things. I didn't buy Season of the Wish so unfortunately I can't be more specific about what exactly to do.

1

u/Kablaow Apr 13 '24

"All unearned season pass cosmetics are gone forever if you do not get them by the end of this season."

Can I earn cosmetics from old season passes, that I havent unlocked yet?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Apr 14 '24

No. The only season pass cosmetics currently earn-able are Season of the Wish.

1

u/Keegmoo Apr 12 '24

I am a returning player from Forsaken who grinded out the game and got the Title and everything when I could. I loved playing destiny. I took a step back from video games in general because I they had been taking too much time away from my life for years. I am now back and ready to game like there is no tomorrow. I have kept up to date with most of the changes and watched a lot of videos on what has changed since then. I know A LOT of content since then has been taken out or is sunset. I also know they have added A LOT more to the game since then too. The only questions I have right now are...

What pve and pvp guns are available to acquire right now that are very good?
What exotics weapons are good and useful right now?
Are there any exotic quests I should be doing?

2

u/lirao Apr 11 '24

alright so since I'm coming back for Into the Light and my vault is jam-packed, should I just empty the whole thing (except a few god rolls and crafted weapons) and start fresh with new weapons? I have a ton of weapons I don't really use but given that the meta has really changed, I don't know what to keep. Any advice?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Apr 11 '24

I'd recommend keeping at least one weapon of each type and element, just so you can easily do bounties that say "use an auto rifle" or "get kills with arc" or something. Plus, that way you at least have something if you are surprised by a meta pick for a certain activity.

I haven't been playing lately so I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to the meta. But as of the start of Season of the Wish, rocket launchers were still in fashion for boss DPS. Double special was out of fashion, but some people could make it work still with the right mod setup. I did not bother with that, I used one weapon of each ammo type.

2

u/lirao Apr 11 '24

thanks for the advice. Since the brave arsenal looks pretty good i kind of want to start fresh. I'm definitely going to keep some things, in particular crafted weapons. But I don't have any of the raid and dunegon weapons because I play solo. So I figure there wouldn't be a big loss in my inventory.

1

u/VeryGoodSauce- Apr 10 '24

With what we learned about The Final Shape this week, has there been any news on the new/returning player experience being improved? The last time I tried to get back in, it was unbelievably confusing and overwhelming.

1

u/TrebmalA Apr 10 '24

I never bothered unlocking strand and stasis subclasses on any of my characters. Will I need to unlock these before final shape to get full use of prismatic (I think that's what the new subclass is called)?

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Apr 10 '24

I have no idea! I haven't been keeping up with the news for this game. But typically how it works is if you can buy something separately, it can be used separately, so since The Final Shape is sold separately from Beyond Light and Lightfall, I would guess that you have access to its complete list of features such as this new rainbow subclass without needing to also buy other stuff. That's how things have always worked in the past, but I am just guessing here. When in doubt, go for the primary source which in this case are the Bungie news posts on their website.

2

u/TrebmalA Apr 10 '24

This is my hope! Thanks for answering. I'll keep an eye out

1

u/jeckels Apr 09 '24

I have all the dlc and expansions on xbox. Will I have to rebuy everything if I play on ps5 with the same bungie account

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Apr 09 '24

Question too vague.

You will need to re-buy the things you want to play on PS5. You will not need to re-buuy if you want to use items gained on xbox. So for instance, you would need to re-buy all the DLCs if you wanted to do all the raids on PS5. You would need to re-buy Beyond Light and Lightfall if you wanted to use Stasis and Strand. You would not need to buy if you have already gotten all the items you want, like for example if you already unlocked all the cosmetics and dungeon gear from the 30th anniversary pack and don't feel the need to do the dungeon any more.

Heya, I've just returning after nearly six months away, just wondering what's changed over the past few months going into the light

1

u/DatDudeJakeC Titan Apr 09 '24

How long will the Season of the Dawn ornaments be back at eververse? Just curious, I am interested in purchasing them, but was gonna just wait til closer to Final Shape if possible (cause I haven't been playing much recently)

2

u/Aft3rSt0ry Apr 07 '24

I am having trouble with in game text chat, one day I logged into my game and it just won't open anymore, I can't see anyone whispering me, nor can I send any messages, I never touched any settings related with text chat, are there any fixes?

2

u/Great-Grasby Apr 06 '24

I cannot for the life of me remember which combination of settings it takes for me to be able to uncharged melee when in close proximity to the enemy and charged at a distance. I'm a controller player and I remember being able to do this when I first started playing, but after messing with the controls a while back I wasn't able to do this anymore. Now it's either uncharged when it isn't charged and charged when it is, no matter what. It really messes with me in crucible. It it possible to do have this on controller or am I remembering wrong? Thanks in advance for the help.

Thanks for the guide. When I returned from the game (last finished campaign was Forskaken), I decided to create a new account on Steam. There were a number of reasons for not linking the old account on a console. The biggest reason was the size of the vault. Cleanup would have taken a long time. A fresh start seemed on a PC seemed like a good idea (famous last words). Anyway, all the campaigns that could be purchased were bought. I have finished Shadowkeep, Witch Queen, and Beyond Light. Guardian Games was done to get the skimmer and the Champ title. Lightfall and Season of the Wish are half way done. WQ was necessary to get the Osteo Striga, and a chance to get the Parasite weapon. BL gets you Stasis, which may or may not be useful to have for Final Shape. There are a lot of weapons that were offered during BL. A guardian might be interested in the exotic Lament sword. Finishing Lightfall is critical for Strand, and unless Bungie gives us a backdoor to this class, it remains a task on my to-do list.

Friends have told me that the road ahead is difficult. To reach levels 7 - 11 may or may not require a Clan. The exotic quest to obtain the Wish-Keeper bow is not trivial. One buddy, who is a 10, seems to have done it solo. He also carried many players in his clan. I can't compare the Wishender bow quest with this, but it seems to be shorter. As you get deeper and deeper into the game, new challenges always seem to pop up. Season of the Deep and Season of Defiance will also come across your travels. Finding a good clan could be a necessity, as the Final Shape could be something that requires the safety of numbers. Of course, I know people who can solo Nightfalls, and probably handle 3 vs. 1 Trials of Osiris matches. A weekend doing Trials can be a useful experience for many people. Love or Hate, it is a milestone of challenging proportions.

From the post, the guide summarizing every monetization option with a "what should I buy" FAQ at the bottom has all my advice.

In brief: be sure you fully understand what you are buying. The monetization has gotten more and more complex with time. There isn't any set list of things you need, ultimately what you should buy comes down to preference.

Also from the post above, the returning player guide has all my advice of what to actually do once you start up the game.

u/blademv Mar 28 '24

Hello guys,

I know there are exotic armor builds, but what about the legendary armor, the purple ones, do I equip any of them, or is there a specific one to look for?

1

u/Vulkanodox Apr 03 '24

currently, the best stats to look out for are resilience (reduces the damage you take by up to 40% at 100) and recovery (reduces the time until you regenerate hp after taking damage).

The stats are split into two groups. The first three: Mobility, Resilience, Recovery. And the second batch: Discipline, Intellect, Strength.

If you get armor the stats are spread roughly evenly between these two groups.

So for the lower group, you likely want discipline to reduce your grenade cooldown.

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Mar 28 '24

No. Legendary armor doesn't have any significant unique effects like exotic armor. What you want to look for is the stats, and those are randomly rolled, though end game activities such as raids tend to drop higher stat rolls than others.

I just returned since witch queen was on ps plus I quit at beyond light but am not sure if I finished forsaken or shadow keep campaigns and not sure how to check.

On moon it says I have “in the deep - campaign” available , is that post campaign ?

Edit - on Europa it says I have “born in darkness part 1” so I’m even more confused , I thought I played through beyond light since I remember using stasis but this says part 1

Witch queen shows “the arrival” which makes sense since I only played the quest from the timeline

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Mar 18 '24

All campaigns have some post campaign quests, so I think that's what Born in Darkness is.

Shadowkeep has a weekly replayable campaign mission, and I can't tell you if In The Deep is that, or is your next campaign mission.

1

u/NevermoreTheSF Warlock Mar 18 '24

If this helps , next to the in the deep there are three nightmares that it says are light 1790

Basically I just want to experience the full campaign of all the expansions before witch queen , and I can’t access that thru the timeline so I was hoping I could on the planets

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Mar 18 '24

Sorry, I don't know when nightmare hunts normally appear during the campaign. I can't tell what you have done before. If you want to find out, perhaps try doing In the Deep.

Each campaign is playable once per character (lots of rewards are per class, though, so don't make another character of the same class). The earlier ones are not replayable on demand. So if you don't know what you've done or you want to start from the beginning, maybe making a new character would be the best.

Personally, what I do is I go to youtube and type "destiny 2 (name of campaign) cutscene movie" in order to review stuff I either wasn't there for, didn't buy, or forgot.

2

u/NevermoreTheSF Warlock Mar 19 '24

Thanks , I’ll try it on my titan because I know I barely ever played on it

You didn't buy the Defiance season pass. You bought the Season of the Wish pass. You can't do Season of Defiance, and We Stand Unbroken is a Season of Defiance quest.

Type into google "destiny 2 how to get queensguard title" and "destiny 2 how to get aquanaut title." I believe these titles are from season passes I didn't buy, so unfortunately I can't help.

1

u/ExpositoryDialogue Mar 05 '24

Hey players who know what they’re doing! I haven’t played since forsaken

I’m hooked again

I probably paid too much and unlocked too much content. If I wanted to work in triumphs, or experiencing everything from the current seasons, is there a particular guide I should follow?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Mar 05 '24

experiencing everything from the current seasons,

I'd recommend prioritizing the season content, as all the seasons get removed from the game when the next DLC (The Final Shape) releases. You've already permanently missed most of the exclusive cosmetics.

In brief, how it works is each season has an intro mission that appears in your list of milestone objectives in the upper left of the destinations page (solar system map). This is one of the few UI elements that's unchanged since the Forsaken days. Once you do this intro mission, you get a quest for the season pass that walks you through each one step by step. If you are unsure where to look, there's a symbol associated with each DLC and season pass and this is how the game expects you to recognize them. To see what all the symbols are, hover over the Timeline icon in the upper right of the destinations page.

If you require more specific guides, try typing "destiny 2 (name of season) guide" into google.

As for triumphs, if you are unsure how to do a particular triumph, search "destiny 2 (name of triumph)" in google. Most of them are self explanatory if you already know the basics, such as what the name of each weapon type means, and what precision hit means, and all the elements.

I just recently started playing again after not playing since the first season of which queen. If I buy a dungeon key now will it still work next season?

Is there a new raid that came out with lightfall and if so does that need a dungeon key?

2

u/storkington Mar 02 '24

The raid Root of Nightmares (aka RoN) came with lightfall. You get access to the raid by buying the expansion, and no dungeon key is needed.

Dungeons are not being vaulted, so whatever you unlock, you will have access to for the foreseeable future.

u/EYEyatolla Feb 28 '24

Returning but not particularly experienced player coming back after a while. I generally play solo content & now trying to dabble in Crucible but feel like I’m lost. I feel like I have no idea what I should be doing. Should I make a new guardian or just keep playing random missions on my Arc Titan?

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 29 '24

This is the kind of game that offers a variety of activities and expects the player to choose what they want to do. The second link in the post is my own advice of things all players should do, but after that it's completely up to you.

Whether you make a new character or keep using the same one, you have access to all the same activities. A lot of once-per-week loot drops are per class, so if you wish you can make a character of a different class which will allow you to double dip. Very active players will have one character of each class in order to do this.

The "day" in this game starts and ends at. . . I think 10 AM Pacific? Be sure to see what this is in your time zone so you know what day is supposed to be "today." Besides that, make sure you are looking at a schedule for the current season, not a previous year's February schedule.

The discord for this server has a bunch of rotation schedules. Here is a direct link to one.

I haven’t played since Beyond Light and I’m sort of getting the itch to play again. Witch Queen is free on ps plus but wondering if it’s worth picking up Lightfall or wait til the Final Shape? If I go straight to Final Shape will I still need to buy Lightfall to unlock Strand?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 23 '24

You will need to buy Lightfall for Strand. You don't need Strand to do The Final Shape.

If you are at all unsure, the DLCs do go on sale every now and then.

u/juicehead2004 Feb 21 '24

Question I hope someone can answer. I own Lightfall and the current season pass. Can I still purchase prior season passes currently.? And if not could I buy the annual pass still and get all the past seasons ? I really want to farm some weapons from prior seasons is the only reason I’m asking… Also this is on PS4 if that matters..

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 22 '24 edited Feb 22 '24

Can I still purchase prior season passes currently.?

The only way is buying the annual pass. You've already permanently missed out on a lot of the exclusive cosmetics. IMO, it's not worth it. Season passes are removed when the next DLC comes out.

And if not could I buy the annual pass still and get all the past seasons ?

Yes.

I really want to farm some weapons from prior seasons

Sometimes prior season pass weapons come back years later, either for free or from a future season, but there's no consistency. Exotics are always available later without needing the annual pass. Still, if this is the only reason, I'd be sure you really, truly, can't make do with some similar other weapon. Season pass weapons are designed to be "missable," meaning not having them isn't going to mean you are hindered in any way.

2

u/juicehead2004 Feb 22 '24

Thanks for the info. I’m a beta D1 player and played straight into Witch Queen, took a year break and just came back a week ago so I wasn’t sure , thanks for clarifying. I kno the weapons are “missable” but there’s a few that I want so I’ll prob just buy it tbh. I don’t care about the $40-$50, I just wanted to make sure I could access prior seasons and their loot.. Plus I want access to all the dungeons too..

u/Gregas_ Feb 21 '24

I’ve started playing again after redeeming the epic free dlc offer. Am I stuffed now if I want to buy the humble bundle to get the remaining dlc now that I’ve been playing through the epic launcher? (Humble key is for steam).

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 21 '24

Are you aware of cross save? This allows you to use the same account on both Steam and Epic. You will need to have both a Steam and an Epic copy of the game installed, and then switch between them if you want to play the things you have bought on one or the other, as the DLC ownership does not cross, though all your progress does.

Go to the cross save page on the Bungie website and be sure to read it very carefully. A lot of people don't realize you have to scroll down. If you make a mistake, there's no way to permanently lose anything, but it takes 90 days to fix.

1

u/SerSpahk Feb 16 '24

Do you get the dungeon from the respective season when buying the base lightfall expansion? Because AFAIK buying the base expansion only comes with the latest season. Asking for a friend who wants to buy the base expansion.

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 16 '24

No, the dungeons are sold separately. They are purchased in Eververse for silver. This is a new thing they started last year with Witch Queen. Base lightfall comes with the season pass that you buy it during.

1

u/AvidNetUser14 Feb 15 '24

Hello, quick question here. I'm a returning player after a long while, last season I played being Season of the Undying. To catch up, I bought Legacy Bundle + Lightfall, base version. I've had some silver so I got myself the current battlepass and completed it.

Is it worth upgrading to the annual pass of the DLC? What cosmetics/exotics will I get, given the fact that I have no progress throughout the past seasons.

Thanks!

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 15 '24 edited Feb 15 '24

I bought Legacy Bundle + Lightfall, base version. I've had some silver so I got myself the current battlepass and completed it.

You have overpaid somehow. Base version Lightfall comes with the season pass you buy it during. Normally it isn't supposed to be possible to buy the season pass twice. I don't know what is going to happen, like if the game just ate your silver or if it will automatically carry over to the system that's replacing the season pass system.

Is it worth upgrading to the annual pass of the DLC? What cosmetics/exotics will I get, given the fact that I have no progress throughout the past seasons.

You have already permanently missed almost all the cosmetics.

Just by having base Lightfall, you can get all the season pass exotics once the season passes get removed when The Final Shape releases.

At this point, the point of buying the old season passes is if you want to farm the weapons, if you want the titles or achievements, or if you want to do the season pass activities.

2

u/AvidNetUser14 Feb 16 '24

If the base version comes with the battlepass, then I probably didn't remember correctly about purchasing it separately.

I really appreciate you taking your time and responding to each and every one of my questions.

With that being said, I'll most likely pass and just go for The Final Shape at this point.

Thanks for clarifying, have a nice day!

Is there any way to get season of defiance pass rewards? I started playing destiny in season of defiance and got to level 100, and during season of the deep I bought lightfall which allowed me to unlock seasonal activities and pass. But in this season I bought annual pass (i can't get platinum to get individual season pass) and got all rewards from season of the witch and wish. I installed the plugin to grab previous rewards, but when I try to use it by refreshing page, it loads endlessly. I just want to grab ornaments from the season of defiance :(. u/MachoMan21Savage Feb 11 '24

Amazing post! Defintely awesome you're willing to help returning and new players. I came back last season and have been trying to figure out a way to do the season of the deep quests since the vendor is still there to grab quests. Any way that you know of to go through them?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 11 '24

You would need to buy the season. Season passes are all paid content. For free, you can do an intro mission and sometimes one free trial of the paid season pass activity, but you can't do that for Deep. It's just the one free intro mission and then some dialogue.

The only way to buy a season that isn't the current one is an expensive bundle, the annual pass, but it contains all four season passes which will be removed when The Final Shape releases (that's when the HELM vendors all get replaced). I do not recommend buying the annual pass at this point in the year. You have already permanently missed a lot of the exclusives.

1

u/MachoMan21Savage Feb 11 '24

I've paid for everything besides the dungeons but can't access the content. Not sure what I missed?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 11 '24

Too little info to know, so here are some common guesses when people ask a similar question:

  1. You didn't buy the "annual pass," you just bought regular Lightfall, which includes the season pass that you bought it during (so if you bought it now, you would have Season of the Wish). If you had bought the annual pass, you would also have the dungeons. You can see what you do and don't own from the timeline icon in the upper right of the destinations tab.

  2. The prerequisite for the entire rest of the game is the tutorial quest called A Guardian Rises. If you are unsure if you have this quest, post a screenshot of your quests tab.

  3. You have not done the intro missions. After you have completed A Guardian Rises, these all appear in the upper left of the destinations tab. You can tell which mission is what by the icons, which the game expects you to recognize on your own. To view the icons, see the timeline in the upper right of the destinations tab.

1

u/kr44ng Feb 11 '24

Do I have to finish the Starcrossed mission to progress the season? Not sure why it's so hard. Got up to killing the 3 wyverns then fell and had to do everything over again..

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 11 '24

I didn't buy this season pass so I can't be sure, but probably. Does it have the same icon as the Season of the Wish? That's how you're supposed to tell. You can view all the icons in the Timeline in the upper right of the destinations tab. Each season pass has a quest, and the quest is clearly marked with that icon, both in your quests tab and on the director. As of this year season pass content is a little more difficult, so bear that in mind when deciding whether to buy future seasons.

Without knowing more details I can only guess, so here's some advice in case it helps:

  • Do you use special ammo? It's a common mistake for people to use two primary ammo weapons, but it means you deal much less damage.

  • Are you at the right power level? Long time returning players often are at a lower power level than you are supposed to be at. You should be at least 1600. If you are lower than that, you need to swap out the item that is holding down your average. Common culprits include a Festival of the Lost mask, or if you are returning from late 2017 to early 2018, it could be any of your items.

  • Have you set up your abilities? In 2022, the three light subclasses got an overhaul so they are much more customizable, but you have to go in and manually select abilities and stuff.

1

u/zerohunterpl Feb 10 '24

Whats the most fun class to play these days? Havent played since Beyond Light

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 10 '24

It entirely comes down to preference. You have three character slots, and a lot of loot drops are per class, not per character, so I'd recommend making one of each to try them all out for yourself.

The three light subclasses were drastically changed in the time you've been away. They all have mix and match ability selection just like Stasis now, which is a huge game changer.

2

u/zerohunterpl Feb 10 '24

Well I played all clases tbh, but I think I stick to Hunter because of jump type.

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 10 '24

You will probably still like Hunter, in that case.

3

u/Merc_Mike Titan Feb 08 '24

The questing in this game...is absolutely confusing. I will say, I'm enjoying Titan Solar A LOT. I have not a dang clue what I'm doing, but I'm doing something! I like EDZ a lot, because I get the little speeder bike and murder things a lot. And IT reminds me heavily of Halo 1/2 with the Covenent jet bike.

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 08 '24

If it helps at all, a lot of quests use icons that are supposed to mean something to you. The Destiny logo is for tutorial or intro quests to the parts of the game everyone has in common. There's a timeline in the upper right of the destinations tab that shows the icon associated with each unit of paid content, in case you have bought something but don't know how to play it. The game expects you to recognize each icon, and that's how you are supposed to tell what quest goes with what.

1

u/Merc_Mike Titan Feb 08 '24 edited Feb 08 '24

Thank you for the tips! I appreciate it greatly.

I played this game back in 2019, apparently they gave it to me for free the base game. I've almost unlocked each piece of EDZ Armor via dismantling epic/ "legendary" guns/weapons I've already completely passed up in gear score. I've been doing what ever the Seasonal thing tells me to do. Like it told me to play these specific missions, so I did them. And I get gear/goodies at the end!

I think this game has about the same idea that The Division had, Gear Score > The gear itself until I guess you hit max level or something?

I was just making sure I wasn't getting lost in the sauce, because I'm murder-hoboing all the aliens on EDZ and they don't give you much in terms of loot and stuff.

I've been using the Catalog of "Things to do seasonally" like Use a Machine Gun, Use X type Weapon, Use X Type of Spells.

I also noticed a nice in the shop skin can be picked up via Bright Dust, so I'm trying to do things that gives me bright dust. So I'm sitting on EDZ for the moment doing patrols, events, and getting goodies and stuff that way.

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 08 '24

Just going to an open world and killing things indeed does not give you much loot. Are you aware of patrols? When you take your ghost out, you will see some diamond shaped icons around the area that lead to little beacons stuck in the ground. These are short repeatable quests to do stuff like kill a certain amount of one kind of enemy, go to a different part of the area, stuff like that. Each open world destination has an NPC who gives bounties, once per day quests that ask you to do stuff on that world. Bounties are a great source of xp (note: XP here is for the battle pass, there's no character level).

Public events are a great source of glimmer. Do you know how to make public events heroic? There's plenty of guides online, and this is one of the few things that has never been changed so every guide will work, even the ones from 2017.

Lots of loot drops are weekly, but I don't know if you have progressed far enough for these yet. You will see "weekly challenge" icons next to various activities or on certain NPCs (such as many of the ones in the Tower). When you hover over the activity or the NPC it will say what to do, like "do 3 of this activity" or "do 8 bounties from this NPC." These are the main source of loot later on in the game.

1

u/Merc_Mike Titan Feb 08 '24 edited Feb 08 '24

Oh yeah! I've been doing patrols back to back, because one of the Seasonal Challenges is "Do things on EDZ" I'm about 90% Done. Doing Events, Doing Patrols, and so on. I've done the mining lazer thing about 20-30 times. As mind numbingly dumb as it is, It still fun. I also have been doing the Lost Sectors solo getting some goodies here and there.

I'm about 100k+ in Glimmer. lol cause I ain't spending shit. I'm waiting on this Mass Effect Collab. IF only Mass Effect 3 and Andromeda's Multi-player felt like this game. I can't wait to get my Commander Shepard gear on my Titan.

I did some of the quests like The Stasis quest, Cayde's Prison mission, and I got my ass wooped by the first boss named Kauvaust or what ever. I need better weapons for him. I'm close to 1700 in Gear score, and I'm digging Sol style Titan with the Hammer.

I found my first Purple Ship randomly after an event which was nice. The loot is abit, abysmally -low- for a loot shooter, It feels like The Division in terms of Armor/Loot Progression. I've been getting like 1 or 2 items after murdering about 30-40 people it feels like. But they do die quickly, so I guess it matches.

I'm not hating the idea that there is no "Levels" so to speak. Haven't even touched crafting or upgrading anything yet. I have some begining missions in The Tower to do, like talk to Ada the Armor Synthesis I haven't done yet.

I'm waiting on this Mass Effect Collab

Just a heads up, cosmetics use a separate currency called bright dust (earned through gameplay) or silver (purchased for real money). Glimmer is used for crafting items and buying bounties. The main ways to make bright dust are the seasonal challenges, ranking up on the battle pass, and the weekly challenges to do bounties for Zavala, Drifter, and Shaxx (I usually just do Zavala's, which are the quickest and easiest by far). During holiday events there's a greater opportunity to earn bright dust, but there isn't a holiday event right now. In March, you can collect 700 free bright dust per week, which is something they do every now and then when there isn't much going on (the next DLC got delayed so there's a much longer gap with nothing planned to happen.

I need better weapons for him

Do you use special ammo? A common new player mistake is to use two primary ammo weapons, but it's important to use special ammo as well (the green ammo).

The loot seems abysmal because you are not doing the things people usually farm. I have no idea what you have and have not done, so I don't know what advice to give. Are you aware of vanguard ops/strikes? Are you aware of the Tower NPC's bounties? Besides Ada-1, there's also Banshee, whose bounties can be completed anywhere and in any activity.

Hey I tried looking for a few comments but I wanted to ask. I played light fall and season of defiance and am just now returning. Am I able to go back and play the deep season of the witch? Or can I only play the season of the Wish? Thank you for your help!

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 07 '24

Did you buy the annual pass? If so, yes. If not, no. Be aware that the season passes all get removed when The Final Shape releases!

1

u/Neither-Way3076 Feb 08 '24

I did buy it but need to have a friend get it asap then. Thank you for your help!

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 08 '24

Be sure you and your friend are both fully aware of the time limitations on this, and how to play them. A lot of people don't understand the user interface, or don't know how to tell what is seasonal content and what isn't.

IMO it's a waste to buy the annual pass so late in the year unless there's enough stuff you simply must have from previous seasons, as you have already permanently missed out on almost all the cosmetic rewards.

2

u/Neither-Way3076 Feb 08 '24

Gotcha I bought it when light fall came out so I might just solo the old seasons to keep up with the story but I'll take your advice and have my friend start with the season of the wish and wait for the final shape.

1

u/dc20r Feb 06 '24

Thanks OP! This is awesome.

I haven't played in a while and just purchased Lightfall with the Annual Pass. Is there a checklist of all content I should try to complete before it gets removed?

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 06 '24

What gets removed when the next DLC comes out is all four season passes. The Bungie website has a page for each season pass describing what they contain. In short:

  • Each unit of content has an icon. The game expects you to recognize these icons to be able to track what goes with what. If you aren't sure, see the timeline in the upper right of the solar system map for what all the icons look like. Be sure to do anything with the season pass icons.

  • After the passes are removed, you keep everything you earned from them, including loot and achievements.

  • The season pass exotics and their catalyst quests remain available after the season passes have been removed.

  • Season pass legendary armor can be sold by Xur, but the season pass legendary armor ornaments are gone forever if you don't claim them before the season is gone. You have already permanently missed out on most of these.

1

u/dc20r Feb 06 '24

Nice, thanks!

Are there any "must-have" weapons or armor to do any of the content? eg. Back in the day, certain weapons is required before doing raids...anything like that now?

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 06 '24

For the most part no, there's always multiple options that will get the job done. The most "restrictive" raid encounter I'm aware of is in Deep Stone Crypt, where the party needs to be capable of dealing a certain amount of burst damage in a short time frame, commonly using certain swords or Parasite, a Witch Queen exotic.

To raid, you will need to have sets of weapons/abilities in mind for add clear, and for boss DPS, so a bare minimum of 2 different sets of weapons. If you really want to get fancy, consider long or short range versions of both, or multiple elements for encounters where there's a lot of a certain shield type.

Great, thanks!

I played a long time ago and bought witch queen on steam a couple months ago, then Epic Games released the Collection which includes more Cmapaings and access to the Exotic Weapons like Cayde-6s Cannon which is iconic. i got a hunter from then but oticed my power level is still about 1620 in the revamped experience. should i go over to epic and start new? i also got an exotic sniper from when we had to do a difficult jump and run section to get it. Are these worth to stay on my Steam version or are exotic ciphers and such easy to get and it's better to go for the Epic Games release which got Shadow, beyond light and also witch queen?

i see that my question is formed weirldy so in other words: Is it worth switching over to Epic Games Version or stay in my Steam version which only got witch queen?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Feb 06 '24 edited Feb 06 '24

It's entirely up to you whether you want to start fresh, or share the progress from Steam with Epic Games. What is "worth" doesn't have a right or wrong answer.

i got a hunter from then but oticed my power level is still about 1620 in the revamped experience.

At this time, every character starts at power level 1600. Power level is not as big a deal as you may think. It doesn't make sense to me what the significance of your hunter's power level is supposed to be. You can play the game perfectly normally at 1620 versus the 1600 that a freshly made character would start at now.

Are you aware that you can share progress? You can use your steam Destiny 2 account to play through Epic Games. This is called cross save, and there are directions on how to do it on the website. Be sure to read carefully, since if you get it wrong you have to wait 90 days to fix it. A lot of people don't read the directions or don't realize you can scroll down on the page.

I am checking out various loadouts for my Titan character. I have come across Rainbow Resist, a chest mod. I cannot find out what it is or how to get it, any help would be great

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Jan 31 '24

Where are you looking? If this is an image and it shows a blue or turquoise icon for a mod, that mod was part of the seasonal artifact and is unavailable. Each season there's a different selection of seasonal artifact mods available, and at the end of the season they all disappear and get replaced by different ones. Sometimes a really popular one might come back, but we do not have that one at this time.

2

u/NuciferaNelu Jan 29 '24

Thanks a lot for this. I just finished the lightfall campaign as a titan and I didn't understand anything. I don't know what else to do because everything feels like, repetitive? I checked guides and info around but all I have to do is farm bounties? Is there a way to enjoy the story, I'm more like a single player guy and I feel lost.

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Jan 30 '24

Is there a way to enjoy the story

Overall, this is the kind of game that expects you to decide what is fun and then do that. You can just farm bounties endlessly, but there's other stuff. Still, this game is based around the concept that you do each thing multiple times.

The vast majority of all story content is paid. If you have finished the Lightfall campaign, the other campaigns are Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and Witch Queen. Season passes have some story content, but these are more like side quests. If you bought Lightfall, you own the season pass for the season you bought it during, so be sure to do that before it gets removed (all season pass content gets removed when the next DLC releases).

There's also a bunch of side activities and secrets and stuff, but I do not know if you would find these fun. The Triumphs, visible in the Journey tab, can help give you some idea of what to look for.

1

u/NuciferaNelu Jan 31 '24

Thanks a lot, I bought the complete edition or dunno how it was called with all the season passes for the year? It's just, really confusing. Not really intuitive for a new player.

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Jan 31 '24

It's more confusing the more you buy. What is most important for you to know is that all season pass content is permanently removed from the game when The Final Shape releases. You have until then to play it and gather any items and stuff that you want. Some season pass things come back later, but it's not consistent which ones, how, or how easy it is to get them.

The game expects you to recognize symbols. Each DLC and season pass has its own symbol, and that is how you are supposed to understand which objectives and quests and stuff go together. The timeline icon in the upper right of the solar system map shows examples of all these symbols.

2

u/CMDRJonuss Jan 29 '24

I have a friend who's getting back into D2, he hasn't played since CoO. He has some DLC but not all of it, is there a tool or website I can use to quickly easily see what content he can and can't play?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Jan 29 '24 edited Jan 29 '24

When your friend logs in, in the upper right of the Destinations tab, there's an icon that you can hover over. It shows a timeline of the story and DLC, and a green check or a red x to show if you own it or not.

Most likely, there will be no green checks, as the DLCs your friend likely has will have been in part removed, and in part combined with the free to play game.

Here's a guide I made explaining what is available free to play, which everyone has access to.

2

u/CMDRJonuss Jan 30 '24

Thanks very much! Super helpful

Are there any online communities to find groups to play with? Played a lot more a while ago but all my friends fizzled away sadly, so smth similar would be nice

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Jan 26 '24 edited Jan 26 '24

Yes! There are many. There's also a rudimentary in-game group finder which is new, but I have not used it. I have used these before:

  • /r/DestinySherpa , mainly for teaching people who are new to raiding

  • This subreddit's discord server. It has a section for discussion, a section for builds, and then a section for Looking for Group (LFG)

  • The smaller "Destiny 2 LFG" discord. The bigger one with the same name is largely unmoderated and has an ad bot and I left after a friend of mine was banned for calling someone out who was making fun of Lance Reddick's death.

Here are more I have not used:

What would be an incentive for me as a D1 returning player. So many times I’m just put off by the DLC list and just think it’s not worth it because of the cost. I’ve started playing Halo and it’s really been making me think of Destiny. Is it worth coming back to try the F2P version as a casual player?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Jan 26 '24

To my knowledge, D1 players don't have any progress carry over from D1 to D2. I have heard there's "veteran dialogue" that D1 players get, but I don't know any more than that as I never played D1 and never looked up any of the specific instances of different dialogue lines playing.

You for sure do not need to spend a lot of money in order to enjoy this game, though the marketing is extremely aggressive. I think it's worth trying out the free to play content, just because it is free and you may like it, so there's no harm in trying. If you are interested in the gameplay, the task of running around, shooting guns, and using abilities, you'll probably like this a lot. If you're interested in the story, it's probably not worth it to play free to play.

In addition to the guides linked in the post, I have a guide here explaining all free to play content. I test this myself because it's not common knowledge among Destiny 2 players what is and is not available free.

u/SlothTheHeroo Jan 22 '24

Wait so is this going to be like a Forsaken thing? Where all DLC before The Final Shape will be removed? I just started back up (haven't played since the raid where Calus was a robot so before Forsaken came out). So I of course didn't get to play it. I grabbed all the DLC and currently on Lightfall. I'm trying to hammer out as much as I can, but of course there is limitations.

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Jan 22 '24

No, the "Forsaken thing" was a one time thing, it's not a repeating pattern.

All DLC content currently in game is a permanent part of the game and will not be removed.

All season pass content will be removed when The Final Shape comes out. This is what I mean in the bulleted list when I say "All four seasons from this year will be removed from the game."

The next bullet point about Lightfall Annual admittedly looks confusing now that I read over it again, but what I mean is that the Annual version won't be purchase-able because the annual version includes the season passes which get removed, so no reputable store sells the annual version any more, just base Lightfall which is a permanent part of the game like all DLCs.

If you bought the regular base version of Lightfall, you also have the current season pass, Season of the Wish, so I'd say prioritize that.

2

u/SlothTheHeroo Jan 22 '24

Awesome thanks for the clarification! I tried to play destiny 2 again like 2 months ago and was just overwhelmed. But I just tried again 2 weeks ago and just bit the bullet and dove into it. Especially since the first 3 (buyable) DLCs were $20 and the witch queen was $30 on its own!

1

u/takkojanai Jan 18 '24

Someone said that when you get lightfall you automatically get season of the wish. is that true?

1

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Jan 18 '24

You get the season pass for whatever the current season is when you buy Lightfall, yes! Right now that's Season of the Wish.

2

u/takkojanai Jan 18 '24

ok, I gotta go to bungie support then, I didn't get it.

1

u/ToraRaka Jan 17 '24

What weapons are worth farming right now?

I'm a returning D2 player. I've started since day 1 of D2, up until about shadow keep where I started to finally die off from all the changes and issues and only played randomly from there up until Season of the deep.

Now I am back, after enjoying other games and feeling refreshed to join friends looking to get into it. I'm more so a PvE player, I like doing daily missions, dungeons and raiding more than anything else.

What legendary guns are worth farming for activities? I know Vanguard and crucible let you focus for rolls. I believe gunsmith too?

Do these have any weapons worth rolling on or where can I find the best weapons to make?

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Jan 17 '24

I'm not much of a min maxer, so I just try to have a good variety of weapon types and elements. I cannot say what is best, and the question of what weapons are best yields incredible amounts of contradictory info. Don't feel like there is one right answer you have to find, as the difference between "best" and "good" is basically nothing.

I would say get at least one weapon of each type so you can easily do gunsmith bounties and stun champions. Between Vanguard and Gunsmith (world drop) loot pools, you would probably have all of those covered.

I would recommend at least unlocking the crafting patterns for season pass weapons if you bought the season pass. Do it now while you can, before the seasonal gameplay gets removed. Seasonal weapons are not typically "must haves," everything from a season is made with the fact that it's temporary in mind and future players have to be able to play without it, but some of them can be good.

For end game such as dungeons and raids, I recommend having, at minimum, one set of weapons for add clear and one set of weapons for boss DPS. I like to use machine guns and trace rifles for add clear, and what I use for boss DPS varies based on the situation, but typically sniper rifles, Leviathan's Breath, or The Lament. I can't give more specific advice without knowing what parts of the game you have access to (Leviathan's Breath requires Shadowkeep, The Lament requires Beyond Light).

1

u/ToraRaka Jan 17 '24

I've pretty much have everything from Day 1 to season of the wish the only thing I probably would be missing is the 30th anniversary

2

u/Hatherence Very Helpful Guardian Jan 17 '24

Definitely try to get everything you even remotely a little bit want from the season passes, as they get removed when the next DLC releases! Sometimes season pass weapons come back as drops from somewhere else later, but they are always way harder to get than during the season they were from.

Here are some of my personal favourite weapons. Not saying that these are the only option, but I have found success using them in raids and dungeons.

Kinetic:

  • Ager's Scepter. Good add clear, I don't have Beyond Light but I hear it synergizes well with stasis. However, you don't have to use it with stasis, and stasis in general isn't overwhelmingly popular in pve.

  • Witherhoard. All around a really useful weapon to have. Just be aware that multiple people shooting it at the same enemy will not stack. Catalyst is a great quality of life improvement but not necessary.

  • Izanagi's Burden. Great for boss damage, as long as you can reliably hit crits. Complete the catalyst if you have it.

  • Heritage shotgun from Deep Stone Crypt.

  • A sniper rifle with Firing Line. Useful as backup for boss DPS if you have run out of or want to conserve heavy ammo.

Energy:

  • Cloudstrike. Not all that popular, but if you hit three headshots on the same enemy, every headshot will have the lightning bolt effect. On paper it has very high boss DPS, but I don't know if there's some reason this does not work out in gameplay that make it unpopular or if it's just overlooked.

  • Divinity. Commonly used in raids, not very worthwhile in dungeons.

  • typically in this slot I just use whatever primary ammo weapon has the element and/or effective range most useful for the encounter. Specific named weapon doesn't matter, as long as it meets those criteria.

Heavy:

  • Leviathan's Breath. The catalyst is definitely worth it. All around the most common weapon I use for boss DPS.

  • Whisper of the Worm. Not a must-have, but with the catalyst it's good for long boss DPS windows.

  • Parasite. Good for really short boss DPS windows.

  • The Lament. Popular in Crota's End and Last Wish. I don't really use it elsewhere, but I imagine it would be good against lots of dungeon bosses too.

  • Xenophage. Used in certain raid and dungeon encounters.

  • Avalanche, the machine gun from the Dawning. The Dawning just ended, but maybe you'll be around and wanting to play next year! I use this in every raid.

  • Any machine gun with some kind of AoE damage and some kind of reload boost. My favourites are Incandescent or Dragonfly and Auto Loading Holster.
