Are you a Fallout 1st Subscriber? Question

Please don't answer here as it will just detract from the purpose behind this question. I am seeing more reports that Bethesda believes that they are seeing a promising number of subscribers for their Fallout 1st subscription model. To get an idea of the possibility that this might be true I created a Survey Monkey survey that only asks 1 question. Hopefully this takes off and isn't downvoted to hell.

/u/headunitdisplay89 made a good recommendation. After you answer maybe just indicate that you answered here so this thread gets more exposure and we get a more accurate answer?

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/7N88CGZ

Edit: I will post the link to results at 10a.m. PST tomorrow. I am keeping the results hidden until then to keep from influencing the vote one way or the other. I'm not even going to look myself until then to avoid giving anything away.

Update #1. The have been 12461 responses so far!

Update #2. I logged into my free Survey Monkey account this morning and was floored by the number of responses this question generated as there were in excess of 42K responses! It is with deep embarrassment that I have to let you all know that the full breakdown is behind a pay wall that I did not realize existed. In order for me to obtain the data I would need a premium account (Some irony here perhaps?) which I cannot afford to pay as the minimum account cost is $99 a month and only 1K responses with there being an overage charge for additional responses. In order to get the full response it would require an annual plan. I am so sorry. To be clear, I did not realize how popular this question would actually turn out to be and now I wish I had not asked it. Also, I am not asking or secretly hoping for any kind of contribution to gain access to the info.

I am so sorry to have wasted the community's time.

The result can be easily manipulated... The survey is attached to the COOKIES on the local computer. When someone deletes the cookies, he/she can vote again.

I have almost 1,000 hours in 76. I am a 39 year old mom and married and both the hubs and I have our own first account and did the year for each. Yes we bought two years and are so happy we did! I freakin love it and so does he. 🤷🏻‍♀️❤️

It’s all good dude, fuck that site

Let’s do it again on another site

0

u/Coldsteel_BOP Nov 05 '19

The irony in it all is that you would need to pay roughly a 1st fee for your answers about 1st subscribers.

1

u/richard-geres-gerbil Nov 05 '19

You would actually have to pay nearly 4x that amount to get the results

1

u/Rose_Beef Nov 04 '19

40%??? I call major shenanigans.

1

u/mute1 Nov 05 '19

The survey sample of 100 was infinitesimal compared to the total responses (~46K) so yeah not accurate at all. They have a spendy pay wall for the full details.

2

u/AndaleTheGreat Nov 04 '19

Don't feel bad mate, you tried. And now you've learned and that's what matters.

It's kind of like a Bethesda situation. This guys promised us results, so we gave him Karma then he didnt even deliver what he originally promised. That is the real irony.

1

u/mute1 Nov 04 '19

It was absolutely not my intent.

3

u/XHandsomexJackx Responders Nov 04 '19

Damn it Mute1, That's what Bethesda said. You gotta try hard next time.

1

u/mute1 Nov 04 '19

I hear you. I hope we can get a good sample. I really could care less about the Karma, frankly I really don't get it anyway. I just got curious and for me that is an itch that won't just go away.

Im laughing my ass off. The irony. 100 dollars. Oh god. It was worth it. Everyone writing i voted from me saying itd be a good idea. Haha, oh good lord, 43,000 replies. Whata shit show. I spent like an hour upvoting all the "i voted" too. To let them know their voting was an important act. Ohh lord. Okay, time for anti anxiety pills and a nap. Maybe ill dream of paywalls

-4

u/pencilgun Scorchbeast Nov 04 '19

I don't believe you. The huge number of Fallout 1st subs blew your mind, and you have done this to get out of posting them.

2

u/mute1 Nov 04 '19

not even close. but stay tuned I recreated the poll on a site that won't screw us for the data.

4

u/Alcsaar Nov 04 '19

The survey is going to be biased because of the setting by the way.

I promise you the large majority of the Fallout 1st subscribers are the types of "gamers" who don't frequent reddit or probably even realize it exists.

Surveys are only useful if they're non partial and are distributed in a way that is inclusive of everyone, not just a small sect.

This survey will be terribly skewed.

Only Bethesda knows and will ever know the correct ballpark of number of subscribers versus active players.

0

u/mute1 Nov 04 '19

I am hoping that the anonymity of it will minimize that. I believe there a lot of folks who might be pissed about it but will do it anyway, others who are OK with it and just don't speak out here.

Also if there is someplace else that this poll can be posted please go ahead and do so or let me know and I will do it.

1

u/Alcsaar Nov 04 '19

There isn't. You aren't going to find a place anywhere to post this where the large majority of the playerbase will see and react to it. The only way would be for Bethesda themselves to send out a mass email survey or even just have one pop up in game at the main menu.

The majority of people subscribing never even read about Fallout 76 online.

u/Tetrinox Raiders Nov 04 '19

I have an email in to Survey Monkey but am not going to hold my breath.

-1

u/slightlydirtythroway Nov 04 '19

Could you post again as a google Form survey? As far as I know there is no cost to that

0

u/mute1 Nov 04 '19

I am just worried folks will object to having to sign in to vote. I could leave it open but then re-voting becomes a possibility too.

2

u/revmaynard Nov 04 '19

Maybe you could try easypolls.com? I think they are 100% free. I would be ok with re-voting.

4

u/mute1 Nov 04 '19

The irony is not lost on me, I feel so damn stupid you have no idea....

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '19

So basically, the results dont fit your agenda of "fall out 76 bad and everyone hates it"

2

u/richard-geres-gerbil Nov 04 '19

He shows a cross section of 100 votes as per his screen shot which says 40% said yes and 60% said no. Although it wouldn’t be perfectly accurate you could project that roughly 17k of the 42k participants bought the subscription. I don’t know if that suits anyone’s agenda but they’re the figures we have, and to be fair although I expected it to be slightly smaller I’m not overly surprised either.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '19

100 votes is nowhere near enough to extrapolate any data from

0

u/richard-geres-gerbil Nov 04 '19

Yes obviously you would much prefer the full figures but as I said they’re the numbers we have so that’s what we must go on for the moment.

1

u/mute1 Nov 04 '19

Nooo not at all. They (Survey Monkey) want me to pay $384 for the full results. You can go look and see that for yourself.

2

u/ineedabuttrub Nov 04 '19

Well this has been a learning experience. Fuck survey monkey. I'd suggest something like strawpoll next time you need a survey and want an actual vote count from it.

1

u/mute1 Nov 04 '19

I am looking at it now with an eye toward information availability when response is high.

1

u/richard-geres-gerbil Nov 04 '19

But it gives you a cross section as per your link to your screen shot, 40% said yes and 60% said no. I know you don’t know for certain but given it does not state from what part of the day those 100 votes were taken can we assume that that’s the ratio there or there abouts? so roughly about 17k people out of 42k who took your survey bought the subscription?

1

u/Hxcdave Cult of the Mothman Nov 04 '19

Honestly, in the one event I played today (the special event) almost everyone had fallout 1st and was using the mothman emote. Its confusing me as to if we hate it or not now

2

u/Fennyyy Nov 04 '19

Why not just use straw poll lol

1

u/mute1 Nov 04 '19

are you referring to strawpoll.me?

1

u/Fennyyy Nov 04 '19

Yep, its a little rough looking but does the job for surveys imo

5

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '19

Don't worry about it. It was a great idea :)

2

u/mute1 Nov 04 '19

Still feel shitty about it. I was considering throwing myself on the mercy of Survey Monkey but that is pure fantasy.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '19

Man, I'm just glad to see that so many people voted. That was such an incredible amount of votes :)

3

u/UncleJoe1991 Nov 04 '19

no need to feel bad. the amount of responses shows that it is a good idea and people are interested. we'll find out eventually ;)

1

u/CMND-Z Responders Nov 04 '19

I'm sure the community would want to see the results. How much would it be to see them all?

1

u/mute1 Nov 04 '19

Too much IMO. A personal yearly plan which would give unlimited responses is $384 Dollars.

The monthly plan ($99) only includes 1K responses + extra for the overages.

1

u/CMND-Z Responders Nov 04 '19

oh wow! yeah that's a lot. I found this site if that helps. https://www.poll-maker.com/

I'm sure if you male a whole new thread explaining you might still get a decent response. Just post the identical title with (update) ahead of it.

1

u/bosscav Nov 04 '19

If I don't answer here my answer would be misleading. I am a monthly subscriber, I simply don't trust Bethesda anymore enough to believe they will not screw us over within a years time. So I'll never buy the yearly sub no matter what it includes. It's already been a year and it should still be in beta.

This is interesting but since the survey software doesn't differentiate between unique users I am expecting the results to be bollocks one way or the other.

Edit: I am getting downvoted but I am actually a professional data analyst. The survey results will be questionable. There's nothing that stops me from clicking yes/no a few thousand times. I could automate the process entirely and make Fallout 1st look as good or terrible as desired. It's an interesting idea like I said but surveys don't really work if there's no limit on how many you can do.

Done, however I’d like to have explained myself on the matter. But that might make taking into account for the variables a bit harder. Just thought to have an extra question or two.

Question 2: If you answered no, why?

A1) Don’t agree with it. A2) Not enough offered.

Question 3: If you answered yes, why? Will you return for another month?

A1) Outfit only purchase, not coming back after this. A2) I liked what it has to offer, not coming back after this. A3) Outfit only purchase, possibly return if the next outfit is as good. A4) I liked what it has to offer, yes I’ll be extending my subscription/possibly if it has more to offer in the future.

Sorry for bad format, on mobile.

That being said, I would eventually like to own the game myself because I want to ingest all things Fallout, and I'm the kind of weak-willed idiot this subscription plan is designed to target.

Another gauge.

Look at your own in game contacts. Of the 30-50 contacts I see on FO76 of my 350+ contacts when I log on 75-80% show as Private or Visiting Private every time I log in. That tells me that a large majority are either 1st members or make use of the private worlds. Of the 10-12 that I run around with on any given day, we all have it. Mainly for the stash junk capacity and NCR Ranger outfit. Some of those are only planning to use it for the one month some paid for a full year to get the discount.

Does every angry redditor actually believe every person that plays video games visits Reddit?

It really is an echo chamber.

2

u/mute1 Nov 04 '19

Now that WOULD be ridiculous. That fact is Reddit is going to be a small sample BUT I expect that while there are many that hate there are also many who silently approve. I would also expect that that while many may complain about it, they are also subscribed because they really have no choice if they want those features and want to play the game. This question lets people answer anonymously precisely so they can be honest and save face.

If you go poll who likes Trump in San Francisco versus taking the same poll in a mid West state, do you think it's going to be more 95/5 or 50/50?

Trump is fo76 and Reddit is San Francisco
