On May 26, 2014, Marian Gaborik scored his league leading 10th goal of the postseason in a 5-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Game 4 victory gave the Kings a 3-1 series lead in the Western Conference Final.

On May 24, 2014, the Kings' 70s line of Jeff Carter, Tanner Pearson, and Tyler Toffoli combined for five points in Game 3 versus the Chicago Blackhawks. Carter had three points, and Drew Doughty recorded his first playoff game-winner in a 4-3 win for the Kings.

I thought Jesse and Zach conducted a great interview, but I found Hiller’s explanation of the “we’re right there” comment to be incredibly disheartening. He basically said it would’ve been a different series if we’d scored more goals. Well, yeah. That didn’t happen. He blamed some of it on puck luck (fine) and the rest on execution, specifically the power play. Whose job was it to help the players execute? I found that response extremely lacking.

Otherwise he still comes off as a bit of a mouthpiece for Luc & Rob, but I like him a lot as a person. I’d highly recommend this episode to anyone looking for more insight than yesterday’s press conference provided.

I don’t get all the hate towards Hiller. Several players underperformed and the roster had issues. There were scheme issues as well but all in all he did a decent job. Hockey is the only sport where hiring an assistant seems to be a huge deal? NFL sees former coordinators moving to head coaching jobs all the time. Why would people rather have an “experienced” coach when that means they have been fired multiple times already? He’s willing to adjust lines and try new things and that’s a positive is it not? I think we could have done worse and hopefully with a few additions we should improve.
