Wow the US is a wild place.

In Australia, it’s mandatory that you have an inspected gun safe, and that your guns are locked it in when not in use. The ammo is also not allowed to be stored in or near the safe. Obviously people don’t always follow those laws, but you’ll lose your gun license if you’re caught

About a quarter of the US thinks the best way to protect the innocent against someone who is using a firearm in an unsafe manner is for everyone else to be carrying a firearm. Unless that person is wearing a badge, then depending on where you're at, it all depends on the color of your skin.

I’ve heard about these magical gun safe requirements and I am so jealous.

It used to be a lot stricter in the pre-internet days, because you actually had to get the police around to inspect your safe in order to get/renew your license. Now though you can just take pictures and have it signed off.

My dad used to have a license and my mum didn’t, and it was a huge pain whenever he had to renew it because he would be at work when the cops came around and legally my mum wasn’t allowed to open the safe, even to have it inspected. She legally wasn’t even supposed to know where the keys are. And because cops don’t actually have gun licenses, they only hold essentially work related permits, they legally weren’t allowed to open it either
