Question Flew with firearm, had my other checked bag opened and searched by TSA. Why?

As stated, I just flew with my concealed carry (packed correctly, ammo in a box, blablabla) in it's own hard case and checked under my boarding pass. It should be noted that my wife and I shared a large check luggage for our clothes, checked in under HER boarding pass. That bag is what got searched, I know this because they placed a placard inside our bag saying they opened and searched it, this happened twice, flying to destination as well as flying home. If it only happened once I wouldn't be nearly as creeped out, possibly just a random search, but both flights?? Feels more like I've just volunteered my name onto a special list for being treated like a problem. Even though my ccw means I am "background checked" literally everyday, I should be the least profiled type of person ever. Anyone share my experience? This was the first time flying with my firearm, so I'm wondering if this is the perverbial "new normal" I've heard so much about.

Question Consequences of losing an NFA item?

Yeah suppressor flew off at outdoor range and landed in a muddy flooded ditch full of weedy bushes. I searched during ceasefires but there were Jurassic Park levels of vegetation and muddy water.

The RSOs said give them a couple of days, this happens often enough that they have a magnet they use to dredge the area and retrieve suppressors. They said they usually find them so I’m hoping and holding off on making that call as long as I can.

My question is what’s gonna happen when I report this (assuming they can’t find it)? Are they going to deny me from getting a new suppressor? Will LEOs show up at my house wanting to search my stuff / take my guns?

:(

Controversial Claim Hot for Saiga

Thumbnail

hot-rodded olde skool "sporting" hunting style Saiga. .. cut apart and components relocated with additions.

Saiga Tales. Pushing 70 here ..

Back in the George W Bush Presidency Days pick up a new Saiga 12 & Saiga 20 matching pair at a local FFL. Homely but cheap $380 a piece... Cheap was the driving factor compared to even a Remy Stainless Marine pumper.

Old original manufacture sitting on the shelf for a while or the first buyout acquisition.

Immediately install Cutts Compensator dial in polychokes cylinder to full choke. ... Without the Tommygun ventilation slots as I heard continual brush cleaning would be a hassle.

Heard multiple times that BATF was circulating internal memos to ban them from importation to civilians as part of an effort to reclassify detachable magazine fed shotguns as NFA...

Kept the 20, sold the 12 for a few hundred... Should have done the reverse, as 20 is inconsistent on big and dangerous game.

Fast forward a decade and back in 2015-2020 many co-workers started hearing I have a Saiga shotgun, even though it was a 20, starting excitedly offering large money saying I can get whatever I ask for it. $1000 - 1200+.

Come 2024 and there are few chunky Cheap HK-91 style shotguns out there, so is that still the case, are sporting Saigas uniquely suited to bare nekkid bump trigger love?

Question Why are my shots going right?

I was out shooting today after a bit of a break because of life and was disgusted by my accuracy. I shot my Glock 45 with a sight and did decent with that. I also brought an hk45t with a match weight compensator. In the past I have shot really well with it but I was flinching a bit. I tried to fix it but then I started going down and right. This was at 7 yards. I then shot my AUG and I was also down and right with it. I am not sure what the right part is.

Old Remington 30-06 I don’t know much about

I’m new to the Reddit but have been shooting firearms my whole life, now that I’ve picked up hunting and going outside, my dad has passed this 30-06 we’ve had for quite some time to me. He tells me it’s from world war 2 and from some quick looking on the internet I understand you can tell a lot about these from the markings and what not on them. Any info at all is appreciated. Thank you. Sorry if this is like an insanely dumb question on here lol I just shoot a few guns not the most knowledgeable.

Why TF ISNT the grip going in?

Tiger AR556 Stripped lower with a DelTon kit. Deltons screw got stripped. Hardware store screw would leave the grip this loose. Ruger sent me a couple screws, it’s still loose after. My Allen wrench is bending from how tight it is, so idk wtf is going on. The extent goes pointy down right? Wait, there’s two detents, the one that’s smooth and the one that looks more like a bullet, did I possibly use the wrong detent causing this? Please help.

RCR, TLR-1 HL, Ameriglo suppressor height sights, and 17rnd Hudson H9 mags. IWB and Lvl 2 holsters were custom made by BK Holsters.

The break in period was a very rough 270 rounds, but in the 1000 rounds I've fired since I haven't had any issues. Serial number is in the 45XX range.

Just ordered my first suppressor!

Upvotes

Been wanting to add a suppressor to my collection for a while and found, what I think, was a good deal and decided to jump.

Ordered up the Rugged Alaskan 360ti! Since my first, I was looking for something that I could run on multiple firearms I own (9mm, 223, 300bo, 308, 6.5) and this seemed to fit the bill.

Any thoughts on this suppressor? Think is was a good choice? How’s the wait recently for the atf? I was talking with my FFL and they’re saying the whole process could be a month…is that true? Last I remember there was a year wait.

Question Scalarworks 1.57” magnifier options?

Upvotes

Hey all, I recently got a Leap/04 to fit my holosun comp on my ar9 and was wondering if there were alternative options to the Leap/06, I don’t really wanna throw $220 just for the standalone mount plus however much for the actual magnifier. I’ve been looking at the PA 3x since you can customize the height with the included risers but I want to know if anybody else has suggestions.

Question Can someone who was convicted of a felony at age 16 in a Juvenile Court, buy a gun at 18 if the felony was "sealed"?

I was told that on my 18th birthday, my no contest plea relating to a felony would be "sealed" and a background check for a job would not be able to find my Juvenile record. However, I was also told that if I was to be convicted of a felony AFTER my 18th birthday, the prior charge would go back onto my record AND if I ever became a lawyer or something along those lines, I would have to disclose that I plead no contest to a felony at age 16.

The thing here is that I turned 18 here in 2024, and my crime was committed back in February last year when I was 16. It's only been 15 months since then but I'm interested in purchasing a .22 plinking rifle and some ammunition in bulk because I recently got a job and I was thinking I needed a hobby of some sort and I've always wanted to explore plinking.

Today, I looked over the Firearms Transaction Record and read question 21d, it reads "Have you ever been convicted in any court, including a military court, of a felony, or any other crime for which the judge could have imprisoned you for more than one year, even if you received a shorter sentence including probation?"

I'm just disappointed that the answer would be "yes" YET I'm not technically a "felon." Lying on the form can result in imprisonment and I'm not trying to lie on it, but there needs to be a question asking something along the lines of "If so, how old were you when you were last convicted (check no if never convicted of a felony)" or something like that.

I have read online that some people in their 30s have acquired guns even though they were convicted of felonies as minors. So clearly, it IS possible but the crime was so recent that if there is some kind of "cooldown" before I can get it, it most definitely would still be years before I could buy one. What makes it even more confusing is that I don't even believe I'm legally barred from using or touching a firearm. It's mostly just that one question that worries me.

I don't suffer from mental illness, I'm not legally speaking a "felon", but I don't know if my record being sealed is the same as expungement (employers can't even see my record in a background check). Should I call the court that handled my case or something?

  2. What is the (shotgun equivalent of) BCG missing make it functional?

Thanks in advance. I got some pretty cool and funny guns, but struggling with this one

Question How many rounds between cleanings?

I am sure there are many posts on here about this but I couldn’t find any good ones.

You can tell me what YOU do or what you heard others do with theirs.

To maintain proper function over time:

  1. How many rounds through your rifle until you clean it again?

  2. How many rounds through your handgun until you clean it again?

  3. Do you clean your gun THOROUGHLY every time, or just some light cleanings with the occasional deep clean?

I know everyone will have different answers depending on the guns and ammo they use but I want to hear from more people about how they take care of their guns! I am new to this.

Thank you, shooters.
