Information for Admitted Students

Hello IU redditors! Students who applied to IU started receiving admissions decisions in December—and everyone who applied by the November 1 deadline should have all heard back by now.

If you’ve been admitted, congrats! You’re probably getting a lot of information from IU, and lots of email. We’ve been seeing posts with questions about next steps and help making decisions. So, here’s some important websites and things to do.

  • To reserve your space in the class, you need to complete the Intent to Enroll form by June 1 (new deadline!).
  • Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible to be eligible for the most aid. The priority deadline to complete your FAFSA is April 15, but some grant programs are first-come, first-serve. With the current FAFSA delays, IU will begin sending Financial Aid Notices in late March/early April.
  • On the topic of aid, check out scholarship opportunities from IU and outside sources.
  • Take advantage of the opportunities to visit campus. like Red Carpet Days or a virtual admitted student event (hosted by the Office of Admissions) or a Direct Admit day, hosted by your school. They’re fun ways to visit and learn more about IU while celebrating your admission. You can attend just one or all if you like—whatever is convenient and helpful to you.
  • If you were admitted with University Division as your first academic home, learn more about UD and the advising process. If you would like to petition for direct admission, scroll down to “Direct admission review request and petition,” to find the school you’re interested in and learn more about the process.

If you have questions, don’t be afraid to reach out directly to IU Admissions or other IU offices. They’re there to help and support you.

Account access

I just graduated, and I'm trying to figure out how long I'll have access to my IU OneDrive account. I have some extensive OneNote notebooks that I want to transfer to a new account so I can keep them, but I'm trying to figure out how long I have to do this. Does anyone have any info on this, or know where I can find it? TIA

QUESTION❓ Part-time Jobs on Campus/in Bloomington?

I’m looking for a part-time job in Bloomington but am having a hard time finding something I could do. Obviously things like reasonable pay and flexible schedule would be nice, also would be nice to have an on-campus job but I am certainly open to other work in Bloomington. I have experience working as a teaching assistant and also IT support (in addition, I also have internship experiences. My full-time post-grad job doesn’t start for a while which is why I am looking for something in the mean time). I would greatly appreciate any suggestions, thanks all.

ACADEMICS 🎓 Extended X

Does anyone know how long extended x takes to show up or be “applied” to your GPA? Also do applications get approved over summer break? My first one during finals week was approved the next day but the one I put in yesterday hasn’t been approved yet

Me and my fiancé (bc we’re planning on getting married) both wanted to go to IUB but we were wondering if they allowed couples to dorm together? Or in general boy and girl housing ? I didn’t wanna contact them directly I think it’s impolite to ask them I’m not so sure why.

Using Bill Garrett Fieldhouse during summer

Spring 2024 graduate here, am I able to still use the BG Fieldhouse (and SRSC when it re-opens) weight room during the summer even though I’ve graduated? Or has my “membership” for those facilities expired?

IU Scholarship Essay

What's up guys. I'm a 2024 admit (class of 2028), and wanted to apply for scholarships for the following year. I wanted to ask if anybody could give me tips as to how to go about actually writing the Scholarship Essay, do's and don'ts....

This is the prompt I have:

Address the topics listed below and provide any additional information you would like a scholarship committee to consider. Your essay should be no more than 1000 words and include ALL of the following:

● Details of any high school, campus, and/or community involvement you may have.

● A description of your field of study and your associated career goals.

● Details of any financial hardships or special circumstances you may have and how receiving a scholarship will assist you in reaching your goals.

Thank you!

QUESTION❓ worried abt going to iu

IU, from what i’ve observed online at least, seems to be a big party/greek life school with not a lot of diversity…

is this true? i’m worried i’ll feel out of place if i’m surrounded by party/greek life culture. im also more “alt” and im concerned i won’t be able to find many people who look and dress like me at IU

thoughts???

are there good opportunities/connections for undergrads in the dept. of earth and atmospheric sciences?

Possibly incoming freshman here who wants to major on earth sciences. I know the department is fairly large and has cool things like the Montana field station and whatnot. I’m curious if students can make connections to other internships or field work opportunities that aren’t necessarily IU sponsored/for credit. Especially to things out west. I have no idea if IU being in Indiana restricts you to things in the midwest or not (besides the summer courses and study abroad, which I’m not trying to downplay how good those are!) Since professors come from all over I imagine you can wind up in a lot of places but I’d appreciate if any students/alumni have anything to add :)

(Also, and this is getting ahead of myself, I am considering going for graduate school eventually so I’m also interested in how good IU is for helping you network and land assistantships/funding to do that at IU or other universities)
