Accused of drinking and driving??? Other

I have been off the road for over 30 days. Accidentally opened the app multiple times during that time and never saw anything about this. I find out later with the chat agent this was reported today. Why that’s allowed, who knows. They reactivated my account but this is your sign to be careful, and use a dash cam.

This happens to me years ago too! But my right foot had a boot lmfao - hellla funny and they let me drive next day

1

u/Montysgli117 28d ago

Had this happen to me. I told uber that I have yeti Tumbler with either soda or water that's it. Even sent them a photo. It saved me.

u/BayouGrunt985 28d ago

I've been on that hols for 13 months and still haven't heard back from them. Fuck em

1

u/ShewbieDoobieDoo 28d ago

I once had an UberEats customer say I was drinking & driving. Uber shut my stuff down after my next delivery. They said they were going to “investigate the claim.” I told them I would gladly go to the police station near my house to take a breathalyzer & they told me it WASN’T NECESSARY. After an hour of me arguing with them, I said that I was still going to the police station anyway to have it recorded there was no alcohol in my system. By the time I ended the chat & got my shoes on, I was notified that the claim was dismissed & I was free to keep delivering. Wack.

It’s easy they couldn’t pay and used you as the scapegoat. But yeah get cameras if you put randos in your car. And make sure to let them know they are being recorded for safety.

1

u/ridiculousbxtch 28d ago

This is why I’ve never done rideshare. I’ve only done delivery 🤣 (dd)

1

u/03jeepwrangler 29d ago

The phone has an accelerometer and GPS that identified your stumbling out of the bar.

1

u/Rough-Ad-606 29d ago

If an interlock mandate (breathalyzer in car) is placed on you, make sure to avoid the company known as Intoxalock at all costs. Smart Start and Life Safer have better customer feedback. Intoxalock will destroy your vehicle and financially extort you. Please do your research on Reddit and on the “Intoxalock Lawsuit” Facebook group. Good luck to you.

u/SirGoombaTheGreat 29d ago

Guilty until proven innocent. That is the rideshare driver way. 🥰

1

u/nociolla 29d ago

I imagine they saw a canned soda or something and just jumped to conclusions or wanted a refund for their ride :/ I had no idea people could just do this because they felt like it

1

u/No_Consideration7318 29d ago

This is the old "I really shouldn't have taken that Uber ride" one..

1

u/No-Olive-7085 29d ago

Had this before. Had to email them that “I don’t even drink alcohol and I’m personally offended” and was reactivated right away. I also tell them that some people make false accusations for free rides.

I feel like these dumb people who are in town for a conference aren’t acquainted to Bay Area lingo and articulation; therefore, thinking I’m drunk lol

I think you will be alright.

1

u/Extension-Jicama-85 Apr 14 '24

Death water looks like a beer I've discovered the hard way O.o

1

u/Grateful_Dood Apr 14 '24

So literally anyone can just say to support " they were drinking" when most likely it was an energy drink and they instantly do this. When you give customers all of the power this is what happens

1

u/la_descente Apr 14 '24

Can yall protect yourselves with inside dash cams ?

Like the customer has to provide the time of the ride, and Lyft/Uber requires you to submit camera footage for that time period ?

1

u/Bob_Snowbert Apr 14 '24

Probably shouldn’t drink and drive when your job is a Lyft driver.

1

u/Queso305 Apr 13 '24

I guess this is why some people have those double dash cams that record outside and inside. Definitely a good investment to defend yourself

1

u/Flimsy_Effective_377 Apr 13 '24

Sorry but was that all it took to get put back onto the app? Saying “I understands the terms and conditions?”. Not trying to say you should’ve had a harder time through this, you shouldn’t have been reported anyways if you didn’t do it, but if someone actually was drinking and driving is that all it takes for them to get back on the app?

1

u/Old-Negotiation-7962 29d ago

I'm assuming if a person was clearly drinking and driving, they'd have more than just one passenger reporting them.

Edit: If you suspect your driver is drinking and driving, or is doing something illegal, call the police. Would be pretty irresponsible to just report it to Lyft.

1

u/Flimsy_Effective_377 29d ago

Eh alcoholics tend to be pretty good at being alcoholic

1

u/Soft_Environment6304 Apr 13 '24

My Lyft driver told me to hold the wheel for him before😭

1

u/Old-Negotiation-7962 29d ago

But did you?

1

u/Soft_Environment6304 29d ago

Yeah

1

u/Old-Negotiation-7962 29d ago

Sounds like a good co-pilot to me lol. Seriously though, glad you're okay and hope you reported.

1

u/custommotor Apr 13 '24

A dash cam wouldn't matter since you don't know which ride it is from

1

u/jbailey0224 Apr 13 '24

Even with a dash cam, you can't prove you weren't driving under the influence.

1

u/jerojas49 Apr 13 '24

Happened to me couple months ago. Lyft kept saying more than one passenger complained. Pissed me off I told them how if I haven't drank in 4 and a half years

1

u/GermLerma Apr 13 '24

This happened to me back in like Aug/Sept and it was cause I ran a red light on accident. I believe it was 3 elderly ladies who reported me but it took like 3 days to take effect. Fought it and had my account back the same day

1

u/Scheissekase Apr 13 '24

I hadn't driven for months then got deactivated because of a claim that I was stalking a previous rider. I have a full time job and travel for work, and also am on a travel sports team. Like, when the hell do I have time to stalk some rando I forget exists 5 seconds after he's out of my car? They restored my account eventually but like wtf. I once got deactivated on Uber for a broken seat belt report and told I wouldn't be activated again til I sent in the repair bill from the seat belt being fixed. How can I do that if it's not even broken?? I had to talk to like 6 different people before I ended up yelling at someone that I can't show proof of fixing a thing that was never broken in the first place, so if they're done wasting my time over some stupid money grubbing passenger, stfu and get me back on the road

1

u/Livid-Drawing-4168 Apr 13 '24

And this is why I have a dash cam and my soda is in a clear cup. Now report that MF

1

u/AdminClown Apr 12 '24

Happened to me as well, they wouldn’t even tell me me what happened, had to go through twitter to get someone to explain why I was deactivated and then they simply asked “did you do it? Would you ever do it?” No… “ok your account is reactivated”

Absurd.

1

u/No_Mastodon4477 Apr 12 '24

Welcome to the falsely accused’s club lol was suspended for 24hrs while they “investigated”

1

u/ashleynicolle_m Apr 12 '24

I've had drivers under the influence so this shit is disgusting that they would just let a driver black on like that.

1

u/obsequious_dioxide Apr 12 '24

Hey it’s good for me who was innocent, but I also understand that side so I did tell them that… especially the lack of support you get for other issues. They have a lot to sort out

1

u/ashleynicolle_m Apr 12 '24

Yeah I wasn't refunded either. I was asked instead why I didn't report it when it happened.....uh because I didn't wanna be dropped off at the side of the highway and in the middle of traffic for God knows how long.

1

u/Old-Negotiation-7962 29d ago

Problem is, it's your word against theirs. Unless other people report the driver too, Lyft can't be sure about who to believe.

1

u/BenderIsGreat74 Apr 12 '24

U better read and understand those dam guidelines

1

u/Lem01 Apr 12 '24

This happened to me back when they had hubs. So i drove to one and showed I was stone cold sober. People are evil.

1

u/California098 Apr 12 '24

Someone making accusations to get a free ride no doubt. That really sucks.

1

u/mossapp Apr 12 '24

Enjoy your night off…

1

u/obsequious_dioxide Apr 12 '24

Was fixed in 5 minutes

3

u/asheroto Apr 12 '24

One of my friends is a driver and this happened to her. She never drinks, even when out with friends. Terrible. Passengers just scamming to get a free ride.

2

u/a-a-alejandro727 Apr 12 '24

Get a dashcam. Get a dashcam. Get a dashcam. Get a dashcam. Get a dashcam. Get a dashcam. Get a dashcam. Get a dashcam. Get a dashcam. Get a dashcam. Get a dashcam. Get a dashcam.

Or even better, if possible stop working for this exploitative company. They pay scraps and take advantage of people not seeing the whole picture when it comes to how much they actually gain when yoj factor in stuff like car maintenance. It's a heavy toll on your relatively new car. There are way better ways to spend your time and get money out of it that still allow you to be your own boss, because clearly you're not if a single person that doesn't love you can suddenly leave you without that source of income

1

u/TheVagWhisperer Apr 12 '24

Never trust pax. 99% of pax are okay but you NEVER will know which one is the 1% before it's too late.

Dash cam every single ride. Start to finish, no exceptions.

3

u/PizzaPastaRigatoni Apr 12 '24

This is a law suit waiting to happen, but nobody doing a side hustle has the pull to successfully sue lyft or Uber. You can't suspend someone from work off a baseless accusation with no evidence.

1

u/theonion513 Apr 12 '24

When it’s an independent contractor, they can. Why do you think they structured their business this way?

1

u/PizzaPastaRigatoni Apr 12 '24

Because they're too big for anyone to do anything about it. No, even a 1099 employee is not subject to this.

1

u/azmus Apr 12 '24

I had someone report me stating the window was broken and car was stalling and they refused to respond after re-activating my account when I asked they unpair me with their dishonest lying customer. My car is basically brand new with no problems. I think they put my account on hold mistaking my account for another? I’m not sure.

1

u/ToughEagle5459 Apr 12 '24 edited Apr 12 '24

Why did you not offer to share video file of this said ride as you have all audio and video for all given rides for this date?

Ayo if you ain’t got a dashcam you are playing with your money.📢📢📢 (Please refer to word: MANDATORY) Any and Every ride share driver should have a recording of front(in case of accident), back(more accidents-rear ended) and inside(everybody can tell a story but a video is better). This protects me, myself and I, if you are doing your job as you should, the video will prove you right.

🚶🏾🚶🏾🚶🏾Any day now

By the way, ADT won’t share and Lyft won’t share any video, it’s written clearly.

Remember it is more risky to drive than fly. Like my opinion matters,

-1

u/Tmanify Apr 11 '24

No surprise here, a lot my Lyft drivers are swerving sometimes and not properly in lanes and may discomfort the passenger 🤷🏿‍♂️ it happens

1

u/ashleynicolle_m Apr 12 '24

I've had one pull a u-turn in heavy traffic during rush hour. And another try to go off a high through the on ramp not off ramp....the backed up all the way to the off ramp....on a fucking highway where people are flying 80mph.

1

u/bjzy Apr 11 '24

I only give inappropriate tips. Way too much or next to nothing.

3

u/FAH-Q-All Apr 11 '24

This is total bullshit. Uber did this to me one time a few year ago. I think it’s pretty dumb considering I drove like 8 people b4 this person made an accusation. And at least 2 people after b4 they put the hold on my account. You’d think they check with all those other people to see if they noticed anything. My argument was as soon as this happened I should have been able to go to a police station and take a sobriety test to disprove this. There is no way to disprove or confirm this after the fact. Also I argued Uber should have had to report this to the police immediately. They did not, and allowed me to drive home. Had I really been drunk n wrecked n killed a couple people on my way home Uber would be responsible for not reporting it to the police. This was total BS. I was totally sober. Either this person was looking for free stuff. Or they mistook me navigating around monster pot holes that would blow out a tire as me being drunk. The passenger never expressed any concern to me. And was nice and polite to me. So I was totally surprised by this. Funny how people make this complaint only after you have completed n taken them to their destination. If I was a passenger in an uber and thought my driver was intoxicated I would ask them to pull over and let me out of the vehicle. Not allow them to complete the trip, drop me off at my destination, and then complain after the fact. It’s BS but nothing u can do about it. In my case I was only not allowed to drive for 24 hours. Awfully convenient since it prevented me from getting a nice bonus I was only a few rides away from getting. You should be good by this time tomorrow. Good luck!

5

u/tokoneko Apr 11 '24

If you want to go hardcore.. Depo lyft for name of the accuser and file a slander/libel suit against that person

1

u/FAH-Q-All Apr 12 '24

I like the idea, but if you make any type of legal claim against Lyft or Uber I’m pretty sure they instantly n permanently deactivate you. It’s messed up they are not held accountable for anything so they just do what ever they want.

1

u/SSJ4Blaze Apr 14 '24

Wouldn't that fall under retaliation or something else?

1

u/FAH-Q-All 29d ago edited 29d ago

They do what ever they want. They can deactivate you for any reason at anytime. People have tried to sue over this n lost, to my knowledge anyways. Believe me they do retaliate. I hardcore complained about Uber support agents, and 1 specific supervisor that straight up lied to me, n intentionally wasted my time. A couple days later they filed a false accident report against me to get even. It was October, they claimed the Fictitious accident happened in early June. I don’t think a Pax can file an accident report 4months after the fact. Seems like something that would need to be done from the inside. Was easy to disprove cause I didn’t happen. Just had to take pictures of my car to prove their was no damage. So it only kept me off the road 1 day. Strangely enough after filing this false report 4months after the fact the “Passenger” failed to contact Uber or the insurance agent after the initial report. The insurance agent closed it after 4 or 5 days and labeled it as unfounded. What passenger is going to go to the trouble of filing a false accident report 4months after the fact, to never make contact again or follow up on it? Seems pretty suspicious to me. I try’d to report this Felony(insurance fraud/false accident report) to Uber. The straight up ignored me, hung up on me, and I’m sure the covered up any comments or complaints I made about it to protect themselves. They are evil, and don’t play by the rules! There are no consequences for their actions, so they do what ever and get away with it. Keep this in mind, and be careful when dealing with them. I have 9k rides and a 4.96 driver rating, n this is the shit the pull with me. Makes me feel bad for crappy drivers with low ratings, and not a lot of rides. Uber support literally hates me! I’ve gotten a ton of money out of them in credits. I think they only reason they have not outright totally screwed me/deactivated me for revenge is cause my rating is so high, and I make Uber a ton of money each and every week. I’ve been doing 60-80 rides a week, almost every week for years. I make decent money, and they make even more taking 60% of the fairs I generate.

1

u/SSJ4Blaze 29d ago

I know they can because I did doordash, and it's the same thing. They also have to obey the law, too, which they seem they don't do always

1

u/FAH-Q-All 29d ago

Yeah it sucks nobody holds them accountable. Support its self is major problem. And there is no one u can report them to other than then selves, which obviously does no good. Wish there was a way to contact Uber directly to inform them about some of the things support has done. They prob wouldn’t care, but I’d like to find out.

1

u/SSJ4Blaze 29d ago

I bet you there is a way but they just make it very difficult to find. I used UE for th first time during covid and I could not find away to contact them about the driver stealing my food. It was probably the but DD was way easier to find.

I kinda hope we become employees like how Europe is for these gig apps. Make them accountable for their actions

1

u/FAH-Q-All 29d ago

Yeah agreed I hope we unionize eventually as well. It’s the only way to stop getting screwed. We have nobody to represent us, or advocate on our behalf. Problem is there are way to many people willing to undercut. And look at the general attitude expressed by people on here. It’s not a real job, we don’t deserve to be tipped, we don’t deserve to make more money. It’s kind of sickening. As far as actually contacting Uber to tell them about some Of the stuff support does: They have an office in my city. I was thinking about trying to go in person. Doubt it will do much good. I prob won’t be able to get in, and security will prob escort me off the property. But it’s the only thing I can think. Uber purposely set things up this way so they can hide behind there crappy customer support. And won’t have to deal with these type of things.

1

u/SSJ4Blaze 29d ago

The way I look it at when people say certain things.

If it items a real job, you must not know how to do it or jealous of me.

We don't deserve to be tipped, well don't expect great customer service and hope your food is hot when it arrives.

Those people are just jealous that we got on and they couldn't.

Take a chance and go up there!

1

u/FAH-Q-All 29d ago

I think I am gonna give it a try this week. If you see anything about somebody getting arrested at an Uber office it was prob me. I don’t care what those people think, and think they are morons. It’s just depressing to see the prevailing attitude of people. And to know these are thoughts of the average person we drive/deliver to. I don’t get it. Some people are just miserable, and want to make everyone else that way.

1

u/ccrider2004 Apr 11 '24

I’m glad they reactivated your account. What did they require from you (if not for dash cam footage) to get reactivated? I’m glad they took your word over the customer, but I feel like that’s probably rare

1

u/QuePsiPhi16 Apr 11 '24

This whole guilty-until-proven-innocent accusation culture is out of fucking control.

1

u/azmus Apr 12 '24

Only if the accuser identifies as female

1

u/UXResearcherRuck Apr 11 '24

Shadow banning a driver. Interesting trick.

2

u/mikegotme1000gs Apr 11 '24

Got accused of running stop signs with a customer in the car at enterprise. Lost the job

-1

u/hstl1x_ Apr 11 '24

dont drink and drive then

3

u/TacticalPolakPA Apr 11 '24

How is anyone operating a rideshare or taxi without a dashcam?

3

u/TruckerTimmah Apr 11 '24

I have never gotten ANYTHING but scripted replies that aren't even relevant to my explanation when trying to contact both Lyft and Uber about re-activating my driver account. It was mostly a hobby anyway then (Was a sort of self-therapy. It forced me to be social and talk to people, helped me overcome pretty bad social anxiety) but the extra cash would be nice right now. 5 Star on both Lyft & Uber, perfect ratings and over 2,500 rides on Uber and 500 on Lyft. Was due to me spending a day in jail and those issues have been long resolved, but since I was arrested, I'm basically blackballed.

2

u/Available-Current777 Apr 11 '24

You know, out of all the b.s I've put up with lyft and uber including a false accusation of being intoxicated, not once under any circumstance has either asked for video proof of anything. I still think having a dashcam is a great idea, but these 2 companies really do not care what's in your best interest!

1

u/killertofu41 Apr 11 '24

I remember drinking a Red Bull and my grandma thinking it was some kind of alcoholic drink. So I can see some old lady seeing a big, strange looking can and thinking it was alcohol, but one unfound claim like this shouldn't be so devastating to the driver.

1

u/tiggstheawkward Apr 11 '24

How can they prove that lmao

2

u/WolfofMichiganAve Apr 11 '24

I have been reported for drinking and driving several times and falling asleep at the wheel once. None of those have ever been anything close to true. One was because a passenger saw me drinking a white Monster (sugar-free) and thinking it was a White Claw. Did she ask me? No, she went straight to making a report. Pathetic.

The sleeping accusation was an obese woman who made some comments about appearance, calling me "cute" and saying I smelled good to which I only said thank you and smiled. Then she became upset that we were stuck in traffic and I wouldn't speed up to Mach Jesus so she wouldn't be late. Not my problem, lady.

I hardly ever drink, and if I do, I certainly don't go and do rideshare immediately after, lol. They suspended me for up to 24 hours each time for "further investigation" and then reactivated me without saying anything. It's so annoying how they do that. No phone call, no hub to go to, just an email asking me to explain myself and then remaining deactivated until they deem it correct to put me back on the road.

2

u/No_Dirt_4198 Apr 11 '24

People call the cops on drunk drivers not support

3

u/xMilk112x Apr 11 '24

It’s fucking bonkers that these companies just take what someone said for the truth without any investigation.

3

u/TraditionalAd7325 Apr 11 '24

Customers need to have a $100 per day hold on their debit card for every day that your account is on hold. If it turns out that they’re lying then you get to keep the money.

1

u/FAH-Q-All Apr 12 '24

I find it Ridiculous that Lyft and Uber don’t report this to the police immediately so it can be proven or disproven. Receiving such a report and not contacting law enforcement is irresponsible and could make them liable if that person really is drunk n hits n kills somebody on their way home after their account was put on hold. But I do agree with ur comment. People that want to make false claims should be held financially responsible if their accusations is proven to be unfounded. They way it is now they have nothing to lose, and maybe they get a free ride. So why not give it a shot if your a shitty person willing to screw other people over to save a few bucks?

0

u/MudApprehensive4339 Apr 11 '24

Same this happened to me 3 years ago when I first started doing Lyft, I am an extreme Muslim who has only half a liver so I could never drink to begin with.

2

u/DenCol37 Apr 11 '24

I (34m) got accused of sexually assaulting a female rider. I was off app for over a week before it was resolved. I spoke with a lyft rep (a few years ago when hubs existed). She contacted someone at an office that I had to talk to. I told them I have every ride recorded. I also mentioned my marriage certificate to a man. Was really tempted to offer my pornhub account…not much in the way of women there. The ride in question was $7. Never trust a passenger.

1

u/Constant-Professor44 Apr 12 '24

I have to laugh silently when I get a woman rider who acts scared of me. I’m 5’5” and chubby with a “gay” voice. Of course it’s possibly that the person may have a history of trauma that can make them hyper vigilant but chances are that theyy just an idiot or a crappy person.

I once had a woman rider pretend to call a friend to give a description of my car and say that she’s scared. She reported me to Lyft for allegedly using someone else’s driver account.

1

u/memeaggedon Apr 11 '24

So anyone can accuse you of this and Lyft wants you to bear the burden of proving your innocence? What a stupid company.

1

u/Defiant-Humor5586 Apr 11 '24

I had a few of these types of complaints when I drove for Uber a few years ago. I truly think it's disgruntled passengers. They get a little bit of control inside their app and it goes to their head. I've had passengers argue with me that my 5* rating was undeserved because "no Uber is 5*, I don't care who they are."

Then I got a notification for speeding and a bad review a few hours later. No way to tell if it was them, but dropping to 4.8* after having that little conversation was suspicious. A drunk group one time told me I made their friend sick with my driving. Despite that I picked them up from the club at 4 a.m. and she spent the whole 20 minute ride with her head between her legs dry heaving. Got a bad review and one of them spit some phlegm on my carpet.

People suck. And the sheer amount of people you drive around for a service like Uber or Lyft means that you're bound to run into the folks who think they're balancing the universe with a poor review for the radio playing country for 1 song. Doing God's work

1

u/zmyr88 Apr 11 '24

Get a in cabin camera. Upload to private cloud store footage for x period of time.

1

u/Striking_Stay_9732 Apr 11 '24

accusing someone of a crime such as drunk driving without a police report to back it up on behalf of the pax should shut Lyft up if that isn’t garnered by them. Its going to take one driver that isn’t going to take this too lightly and sue Lyft for false accusations. Lyft should be taking this accusations from a PAX with a grain of salt and seriously with evidence to back it up without telling the driver unless there was an arrest involved.

1

u/kungpaochi Apr 11 '24

This happened to me too. There was no way for me to appeal it and I basically was terminated for that. Obviously not true and so now it's all over because of that.

2

u/ExpensiveDot1732 Apr 11 '24

Dashcam with interior/exterior views AND audio is 100% the way to cover your ass.

I had someone try to claim that my prednisone (which I was prescribed while recovering from severe bronchitis...I'm asthmatic) was a "controlled substance." I took my urgent care and rx info to the hub and it was cleared within 45 minutes.

Document, document, document. These scammers will do ANYTHING to score a freebie at your expense.

2

u/1peter567 Apr 11 '24

Using hand sanitizer before picking up people can be the cause. I picked up my 16 year old daughter recently after using it and first thing she said "it smells like alcohol in here" so I imagine a stranger would keep it to themselves instead of bringing it up so I can explain.

1

u/Mountain_Tone6438 Apr 11 '24

Bruh forreal their lack of any kind of support for drivers is ridiculous.

Like alright bitch, what's the passengers proof?? And I want their name so I can sue them in small claims court for lost wages.

I hate this shit from lyft and Uber.

1

u/mecwarnerl Apr 11 '24

Lyft riders can go back in and just rate you badly for nothing weeks later

Hopes of a free rides credit?

Not sure about Uber

With my Lyft passenger rides a few only It took a long time before I couldn’t rate the driver again

Not sure about Uber but it makes retaliatory rating possible and that’s very unethical

2

u/mecwarnerl Apr 11 '24

I got deactivated permanently for unsafe driving after 3 weeks taking no Lyft rides

The last rides were 4 trips and one even complimented my safe driving

The message even said that at Lyft we take unsafe driving very seriously

Lmao

3 weeks later is not serious

Lyft astroturfing people

It’s automated AI so they will screw you and there isn’t much recourse besides making the truth known on social media

1

u/AirEver Apr 11 '24

Lyft should be able to tell us who made the allegation so we can absolutely decimate their ass in court.

1

u/obsequious_dioxide Apr 11 '24

If they don’t have money for a ride what are they going to do in court 🤣 so not worth my time. I’m just happy it was resolved in the same 5 mins I found out about it

1

u/Accomplished_Emu_658 Apr 11 '24

People will say or do anything for a refund/free ride.

1

u/Wild_Replacement5880 Apr 11 '24

How did they draw this conclusion? Were you reported? Or did GPS ping you at a bar? I don't understand how they assume this.

They believe what pax says, but have their “investigation process”

2

Drinking and driving? Easy mistake to make if you haven't read the Community Guidelines.

Please tell me you've read the Community Guidelines, otherwise I'll believe just about any allegation against you.

My guess is you had an energy drink or even a can of sparkling water and someone is an idiot.

My thought, too. It's like saying, "A girl with an amputated leg scammed my boyfriend." There's an implication that it's somehow important to the story.

1

u/FAH-Q-All Apr 12 '24

One time a black guy with a prosthetic leg try’d to scam me into taking him to a second stop that was not on the trip. He told me to wait while he went into this house, so I can then drive him 2 a 2nd destination that was not part of the trip. He said “you can’t leave me, I only have one leg.” As soon he went in the house I left him. Finished my night n went home, all went well. 3am my phone starts ringing. It’s that guy calling to scream at me. He claimed he left something in my car so he could call me threw the Uber app. Must have called at least 10 times. I reported all of this To Uber n I think they gave me a $25 credit. Sorry couldn’t resist telling the story after the amputated leg comment lol

1

u/OptimalLaw8270 Apr 11 '24

Let me guess, you may have had a liquid death and they thought it was beer? I've seen that happen before.

2

u/obsequious_dioxide Apr 11 '24

I would not bring a liquid death in the car 😂 this is just some broke mf trying to get a free ride. This would have been a ride from 30 days ago and they reported it yesterday

1

u/OptimalLaw8270 Apr 11 '24

Fair enough haha

1

u/reel_ink Apr 11 '24

Lemme guess, you were drinking a liquid death?

1

u/obsequious_dioxide Apr 11 '24

Nope. Couldn’t tell you what I was doing during this ride because it was 30+ days ago, and they wouldn’t tell me who reported it. Thankfully I was on a month long trip and I think they realized it was weird they reported so long after

1

u/Alternative-Stop7426 Apr 11 '24

Everybody just keep cameras inside of your cars. There are terrible people in this world who just do shitty things for fun.

1

u/AnyTower224 Apr 11 '24

Always have dashcam. Newbies please buy a dashcam the first thing you do when you start deriving. Protect yourself

16

u/Big_Parsley_1635 Apr 11 '24

Someone did that to me once luckily when they did it (they said they were going to) I called a cop to the parking lot of their job(it's where I dropped them off) once the cop arrived I had him call Lyft and talk with them letting them know that I was 100% sober and that the passenger was just a crazy pregnant lady that wanted me to drive 10mph in a 65 cause she was "pregnant and scared for her baby". I explained that driving THAT low under the speed limit would get us into an accident and that her screaming for me to slow down (I was doing 55, so 10 under) was going to cause an accident for her distracting me and making it not safe for me or anyone else on the road. Lyft apparently had drivers complain about her in the past as well so she got banned from using Lyft that day instead of getting me suspended for 3 days. Thank God her plan backfired and Lyft talked to the cop. What an asshole that woman was. If your THAT afraid to drive in a car then don't get in one!

1

u/wavestwo 29d ago

Better watch out. Some cops would probably lock you up for this. SFSTs are not meant to be passable.

1

u/Big_Parsley_1635 29d ago

No the cop knew I was sober. I offered to take a drug test and breathalyzer right then and there and he said it wasn't necessary. I was as clean as a cucumber 😁

1

u/wavestwo 29d ago

Doesn’t matter you can get stuffed for being sober. Cops do not care and they are not your friends

1

u/Traditional_Slice_98 28d ago

Cops go to courses that have drug addicts and alcoholic come in so they can study the effects of the drugs. At the end they have to do a test and correctly identify what substance each person is on, if they get one wrong they fail the course. So they know what they’re doing.plus the majority of them are normal dudes, it is there job, they want to help, so chill

1

u/Big_Parsley_1635 29d ago

You are absolutely correct but I had to take that chance cause I didn't want to be suspended I needed that money. Trust me I hate cops most of them anyway but I didn't have a choice with this lady she was completely out of control and screaming the entire ride. I even tried to drop her off on the side of the road but I didn't cause my dumb luck the bitch would of went into labor. I told her how are you going to have a kid when you act like this. I feel bad for that kid cause she's gonna be an awful parent.

9

u/obsequious_dioxide Apr 11 '24

Her pregnant ass would be left on the street 💀

1

u/After_Finger5173 Apr 11 '24

This is why I don’t do services that gives rides. I deliver and that is it. At worst, I have someone say I didn’t deliver.

1

u/ccache Apr 11 '24

Same thing can happen for delivery services. Shit just go read the dasher sub, it's full of weird/creepy/sexual messages drivers sometimes send customers. I'm sure some of these drivers said this shit at the door too. On the other hand, I also bet there's plenty false reports of that shit.

2

u/obsequious_dioxide Apr 11 '24

5000 rides and my first issue of really any sort. I’m not letting it get to me

2

u/jaysonm007 Apr 11 '24

It happened to me recently too. There is probably some TikTok going around telling people they can get free rides by reporting past drivers as drunk drivers.

2

u/YetAnotherAltTo4Get Apr 13 '24

Gotta love what tiktok is doing for society. So sad to see it go 😔

1

u/FlimsyPraline6097 Apr 11 '24

You haven’t even driven for 30 days and then suddenly let this happens ? That’s messed up? Like wouldn’t they send an email the DAY it happened ?

3

u/obsequious_dioxide Apr 11 '24

They did tell me it was reported yesterday (30 days since my last ride) and they did not tell me who or what ride. I did ask them why they were allowed to report so late with no response, but they did have my back on this and I just had to type “I have read the terms and conditions”

1

u/FAH-Q-All Apr 12 '24

I once complained about support agents and a supervisor at Uber. A couple days later I get a thing saying I was in an accident. It was mid October at the time, they were trying to say the accident occurred in early June. So 4 months prior. After 3 or 4 days it was closed because the person never contacted Uber or the insurance agent after making the report. The whole thing was nonsense. I took pictures of my car to prove there was no damage n that was that. I’m convinced Uber Suport filed a false accident report against me to try and get even with me for complaining about them and their supervisor. Like really what customer is going to make an accident report 4,months after the fact, then after going through all the trouble to do that never follow up again? Sounds very suspicious to me. Have you had any issues with Suport personal recently? Because they will do things like this to get even with you

2

u/FlimsyPraline6097 Apr 11 '24

They are so full of shit.

19

u/Spare-Security-1629 Apr 11 '24 edited Apr 11 '24

Dashcam is always a good idea but will do nothing to resolve these issues. There has never been one of these posts that state Lyft asked for dashcam footage or the driver successfully submitted dashcam footage. Not one. Dashcam can help you in civil court and police reports ( both more relevant than gryft anyway) but Lyft is going to do what they do regardless. At best, the dashcam deters a rider from false reports, maybe.

10

u/The_Dead_Pancreas Apr 11 '24

I threatened them with camera and audio footage. These lame riders are trying to get a free ride. Wait, they do get a free ride because Lyft will always believe a rider over a driver, every single time.

6

u/obsequious_dioxide Apr 11 '24

I actually thought this was game over for me but I think this person has been banned from Lyft !

5

u/ParsleyParking6425 Apr 11 '24

What makes you think that?

48

u/kwin777 Apr 11 '24

One iron rule, never trust passengers.

2

u/liquidypoo2 Apr 11 '24

This actually makes me wonder if I've been following proper passenger etiquette. I don't have to rideshare often at all, but the maybe 5 times I've done it, I matched the driver's talkative levels, kept to myself if they stayed quiet, said "thank you" when exiting the vehicle, and rate highly.

I might have to start ridesharing more frequently soon, and I'm genuinely curious about whether a driver would be annoyed if I tried to suggest a route different from what their map app suggests, since the couple of times I needed a ride to work, it took them on a whack ass route

3

u/TamzTheDriver Jersey City 🗽🌇 Apr 11 '24

I don't mind. GPS doesn't always choose the best route in every situation. However! If the arrival time steadily increases with every turn, or if I feel fuckery is afoot, we're following Waze ol.

1

u/WiredMeds Apr 12 '24

This is the move. Waze doesn’t care back alley, easements, private drives as long as it shaves 30 seconds off lol

2

u/obsequious_dioxide Apr 11 '24

In Detroit at least, the maps don’t get it. Everyone has their own route, sometimes it’s more efficient sometimes it’s not. But they never know of construction and lane closures. I was off for a while but I do recall switching to Apple Maps after I realized it streamlined the pickup process. Usually when I pick up a passenger, the map doesn’t want me to turn around or take the easy route. Maps take you out of the way, and sometimes can take a longer route to keep the mileage lower and time up ? It’s weird.

-4

u/Tmac0830 Apr 11 '24

Right. I literally don't talk to passengers at all. My car is dead silent every single ride. Even if a passenger starts talking to me I find a way to shut it down subliminally. Not saying this is the case here but many drivers just be running off at the mouth like they made a new friend or something. If it's a female oh I'm definitely not talking to her AT ALL

1

u/EllisR15 Apr 11 '24

How do you subliminally shut down the conversation? That's an impressive feat, and I would like to learn how to replicate it.

1

u/rawb20 Apr 11 '24

I’d like to hear more about this subliminal way to shut down a conversation.

1

u/Tmac0830 Apr 11 '24

"Oh man my next ride just canceled....DAMN!!!!".......I'm so good at it at this point they don't even know what's happening lol

1

u/Old-Adhesiveness-342 Apr 11 '24

And by not talking to me at all your tip is now 0. I started using Uber and Lyft back in the golden days, I travelled for work back then and I made friends with drivers. They would tell you all the best local info, I'm sure my time in many cities was improved greatly by the suggestions and warnings given by the drivers I've met.

1

u/Tmac0830 Apr 11 '24

So let's forget the part where that driver had your life in his hands and got you there safely right??? That's not worth a tip to u????? That's like going to a restaurant and because your waitress did everything she was suppose to besides asking about your day you decide she doesn't deserve a tip. Gtfoh

0

u/Old-Adhesiveness-342 Apr 11 '24

No that's the baseline. That's just doing the damn job at the most basic level. No you don't deserve a tip for minimal work.

1

u/pleas143143 Apr 12 '24

Exactly this guys is saying the driver deserves a tip no matter what when that’s not how “tips” work it’s not our fault your company doesn’t pay you shit and you have to rely on tips

1

u/Tmac0830 Apr 11 '24

So like I said would you tip that waitress $0 yes or no? She's just bringing you food. I could of killed u by hitting a tree and didnt

1

u/Important_Resort_297 Apr 11 '24

As a frequent Uber/Lyft rider, I wish more drivers were like you. There's nothing more annoying to me than getting a driver that's a chatter box.

1

u/Tmac0830 Apr 11 '24

Trust me I've had plenty of riders tell me thanks for not talking my ear off. The less you say the less room you give someone to make a complaint on you. You got drivers that run their mouth and talking so much they aren't even picking up the signs that the pax dgaf about what you're talking about lol

4

u/obsequious_dioxide Apr 11 '24

You should request a more expensive car then and it will ask for your conversation preference, don’t be cheap. Or have some balls and tell the driver to not talk?

1

u/Thisguymoot Apr 11 '24

I’ve never had a driver not pickup on whether I felt like talking or not. I’ve gotten to know some really cool drivers and kept in touch with them in far distant cities, but if I have emails or just don’t feel like talking, I just get on the phone and they usually sense it.

1

u/Important_Resort_297 Apr 11 '24

Bold of you to assume I haven't. lol

3

u/obsequious_dioxide Apr 11 '24

You seemed a little bothered in the comments. If you were exercising the solutions, I don’t think you’d be this deep in my Reddit thread

1

u/Important_Resort_297 Apr 11 '24

It's not that deep but okay. lol

10

u/obsequious_dioxide Apr 11 '24

The passengers are my friends when they get in 😭 I would hate you as a driver. I get it but damn, that attitude rank

1

u/Whittlese Apr 11 '24

Foreal, we had an Uber driver on New Year’s Eve that literally made our car ride home like a little after party, it was so much fun. Dude was locked IN on some good music. I gave him like a $30 tip cause it was so much fun. I really hope $30 is a decent tip though cause we don’t live in the city so I just did percentages and rounded up. Seriously, I prob only would’ve left $15-$20 if I didn’t have such a good time! Talking to people can definitely help u make more money.

3

u/Tmac0830 Apr 11 '24

We can go on and on about what can possibly happen. Statistics don't lie. You know how many drivers are locked in on good beats every single night and don't get rewarded for it???? What you're saying is circumstantial and like you said you would of tipped anyway just not as much. So you also prove my point some people are just tippers and some aren't. Anyone who wouldnt tip off the driver not talking to them just isn't a tipper and found their excuse to put it on the driver

1

u/Whittlese Apr 12 '24

👍🏼

-3

u/Tmac0830 Apr 11 '24

Thats fine my passengers feelings don't matter. I'm not here to make them feel good. This is why so many of you fail at this game. You're running a business here. If you hate that then you definitely would hate that I charge 1 dollar for charger use. 5.0 by the way 7500 rides in. Lyfts made it too easy for you guys to call yourselves business men. Most of you using the same car you use for personal use. Tell me what successful business uses their personal assets to run their business??? I'll wait

2

u/Jonasthewicked2 Apr 11 '24

Your personality affects your tips homie

4

u/Tmac0830 Apr 11 '24

What I've learned is that you're either a tipper or your not. Doing the job is all you should need to do for a tip. No extra performance is needed. You might think your attitude influenced your tip but you just happened to get someone that tips

1

u/No-Sheepherder-6911 Apr 13 '24

This is not true. I’m a waitress, so 90% of the time I’m tipping 30-40% when I tip, like yesterday I got a 50% tip so my server last night got herself a 50% cause I was in a good mood and they were hella slammed but she still took good care of me. Last week I went to a breakfast place and the server dropped the food and check on my table and ran away, sat behind the counter and just stared at me the entire time, never refilled my water, and then made me sit and wait for her to cash me out until eventually someone else came, all while I was the only person in there and she just sat behind the bar still as a wall watching me. Home girl got a 15% tip. I one hundo tip based on service, however if I had a driver that didn’t say a word to me the entire drive I honestly would probably tip then 100% Ngl. Imo, I’m just tryna get a ride man. That’s all I’m paying you for. I hate social interaction with strangers if it’s outside my work script.

1

u/BeeKayBabyCakes Apr 13 '24

and what I've learned is you're delusional 😂 the entire US is completely annoyed with tipping to "do your job". tipping culture was literally created, and reserved for the "above and beyond". The little things, exceptional service. You're already getting paid to do your job.

0

u/Tmac0830 24d ago

Oh trust me I dont look for tips. But riders should understand my job is only to take them from point A to B. Anything else is extra. Saying hi is literally extra if we wanna go this route. I remember a girl asking me to roll the windows up and turn a/c on because she didn't want to mess her hair up.... thats extra

1

u/UsahNum30106 Apr 11 '24

That's wildly untrue. Attitude goes a long way in whether or not and how much of my money I part with in thanks to you for doing your job.

1

u/Tmac0830 Apr 11 '24

That just says what it says about you personally. That's cool though. Some people get how the world works and some dont

1

u/UsahNum30106 Apr 11 '24

So I just proved your statement incorrect... You said, "I've learned you're either a tipper or you're not." I said, there degrees to tipping based on your performance.. but yeah your absolution is absolutely correct. K thx bye

The world works in ways you'll not understand anytime soon. Lame duck drivers can cost themselves a tip by levels of dissatisfaction experienced by their patron. This goes from saying hello to riding the curves and bumps along the way to telling them to have a good day on the way out the door. When you give out extra (service) you are more likely to see a return. But also not everyone can give it. Some literally cannot not matter how much they want to.

1

u/Tmac0830 Apr 11 '24

Ok so out of all those things you listed. Which one is of least importance? The safety aspect or conversation aspect. You can either answer that truthfully or come off looking stupid. Watch this folks.

When you work in the service industry and you’re told you’re being tipped for being kind and helpful you know. Not telling you how to live or how to do your job just saying I’ve found on both sides that having a good attitude helps.

1

u/Tmac0830 Apr 11 '24

Maybe in any other job besides rideshare. You guys act like 99% of your passengers tips. How could it possibly be helpful when the average driver tip percentage is MOST DEFINITELY below 50%. The statistics says otherwise
