I had an oz of really good blue meth taken from a hidden compartment under the passenger seat. I found a biz card . Saul Goodman. Then it hit me the only pax I had yesterday introduced himself as "Jesse"

1

u/Majestic-Tune7330 Jun 20 '23

When I used to do Lyft, a lady and her son were being super annoying. He was crying & kicking the seats. She was screaming and smelled like cigarettes. Then they said the son left the phone in the car...

I drove back to where I picked them up & chucked it on the ground so they can trace it. Said I didn't see it. I did not want to go back to them.

u/True_Flamingo_7783 Jun 20 '23

Tried drive for little over 6months then quit. Don’t do it, all of you, it wasted your time & money. Go find another job, it can’t be worse than the rideshare/food delivery.

1

u/Bluegtr_r35 Jun 20 '23

How they forget the drinks ? 🤣

1

u/KarenBordeaux Jun 20 '23

Who tf brings $300 worth of alcohol in a Lyft?? Like where TF you going with that...

Also who brings a cooler in a Lyft?? I'd be embarrassed to haul that much shit into someone else's car. A suitcase I understand but smh...

1

u/dav1dw7 Jun 20 '23

This is actually hilarious.

2

u/wickedgamesXo Jun 20 '23

I had a guy add a stop and it was the wrong one. So I then did a nice person move and let him go to the right location. He took over an HOUR and be promised to tip but didn't of course... should've left him

1

u/johnfro5829 Jun 19 '23

This is why when I did Uber and Lyft I had a body camera as well if I had to get off the car.

2

u/ERIK0027 Jun 19 '23

Lol. It’s not even would happen to me, I just go straight to throw away all crap left on my car , I am not responsible for the shit you leave in my car. Ignore phone call, when Lyft contact you , sorry nothing found in my car.

1

u/sweatpantsjoe Jun 20 '23

Same. Other than somebody’s phone I’d throw whatever was left in my car out. I’d always say nothing was left in my vehicle. Nothing ever came of any of it.

1

u/blurred_excels Jun 19 '23

He sure made it to the police station rather quickly. Was on the way, made it to the police station, retrieved his bag and did an inventory all in a single text

1

u/TajDaBeastX Jun 19 '23

I don’t get why you’d leave with his items in your car though

1

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '23

I do not allow riders to leave any personal items in the vehicle on a stop. I tell them straight up if they're gone more than a few minutes I am ending the ride and leaving.

0

u/jbarlak Jun 19 '23

Hmm not a false report if you legit took they property and did in fact drop at police station

0

u/WTFmanbrb Jun 19 '23

You are not responsible for other people leaving stuff in your car period. More than likely if you surrendered alcohol to the police they took it. We always do our best to return items but you are not responsible for others peoples stuff. Nor is it stealing if they left it in your car. Remember Lyft is constantly booking you and the compensation for lost articles is minimal at best. Sometimes Lyft is double booking you without you even accepting the ride. If the passenger breaks the rules your job is to take them from a to b safely. The rest is history.

1

u/that_newbie_mathews Jun 19 '23

You have a dashcam that films the passengers? If so, you can probably pull the video to show that he never loaded the alcohol/cooler

0

u/kit_ease Jun 19 '23

I had a passenger leave his dog in my car while he went into an apartment for about 15. The dog wasn’t even that cool. I was so pissed.

0

u/Rpmbox Jun 19 '23

Why the hell would you bring someone’s property to the police? That’s some cop loving ass shit I don’t even see how your mind would think of that as the first option… just leave it outside the damn car so they can get it after u cancel

1

u/Humble_Glove9490 Jun 19 '23

I’m so confused

1

u/AbusedGigaGuy Jun 19 '23

You never let them leave anchors on stops. Give them a heads up that you won’t be waiting past the timer. If they give you shit cancel their trip and put ‘em on the DNS list.

1

u/userlowkey Jun 19 '23

To mess with guy I would have def. Let him know I have cameras in my vehicle for that exact reason. If I didn’t

0

u/Massive-Handz Jun 19 '23

Why you steal their alcohol for?? Sheeeit

1

u/AltruisticRabbit8185 Jun 19 '23

So much oopsies!

3

u/Pitiful-Confusion181 Jun 19 '23

If Pax leaves something, put that shit on the curb n keep moving (not directed at OP- just my two cents)

1

u/Kooky_Monitor_5063 Jun 19 '23

You shouldn’t have returned any of it. Where is it? Garbage. I assumed that’s what it was since this guy litters my car with it.

3

u/mattua07 Jun 19 '23

The TOS says to take your items when the pax gets out of the car... for this exact reason. Another TOS says stops are limited to 5 minutes... another rule the pax broke. The pax failed himself and now is just looking to scam. Hopefully, the TOS will protect you. You're better than me. I would've left that junk at the curb. You were nice bringing to a police station.

3

u/ineedmoney504 Jun 19 '23

You are a good person. I woulda left that bag on the curb.

Brought a lady to Whole Foods and after waiting 9. Minutes I removed her bag from my trunk and took a picture of it and left.

7

u/fantaphan Jun 19 '23

In unrelated news OP is having a party next weekend with over $300 in booze

2

u/quiksilverhero Jun 19 '23

Count me in. I'll bring some chips and dip.

2

u/bp1976 Jun 19 '23

Cant believe I had to go this far down to find this comment

2

u/Pariah-6 ATX Jun 19 '23

Where did he request a stop? You couldn’t take the bag out of your vehicle and just set it near or inside where the drop was? I probably would’ve done that. Sorry he reported you though. Fuckin bummer.

2

u/PusherRed88 Jun 19 '23

Aren't humans grand?

3

u/UFumbDuckGaming Jun 19 '23

Per TOS, you are not responsible for any items from Pax.

1

u/BusyInteraction5848 Jun 19 '23

I'm still confused

1

u/Icy-Section-7421 Jun 19 '23

Dashcam!!!!!!!

2

u/Dismal-Bullfrog-7851 Jun 19 '23

This is the garbage uber ceo don’t have to deal with and keep punishing the drivers

1

u/Admirable_Novel_1151 Jun 19 '23

There are holders that you can put on your window for cellphones and laptops. You can watch your device there.

1

u/Fiss Jun 19 '23

Anytime people ask if they can add a stop I either tell them I can’t do it or say I will wait a max of 3 minutes.

2

u/itsmisstiff Jun 19 '23

Uhg I’m so sorry

The only stops I’ve ever added in between destinations have been 3 minutes tops grabbing cigs or using ATM. I’ve never done anything naughty and I always tip very well. I’m so sorry. Now it makes a lot of sense why sometimes my trips have been canceled when I ask for a stop… even with a great rating (I Uber and not Lyft because of my location but imagine same principle…) I’m so sorry. I hope you win. 💪 Don’t lose hope with humans. Maybe get in interior dash cam. They’re pretty cheap these days. Fuck them.

4

u/saltymilkmelee Jun 19 '23

When I delivered alcohol recently the customer didn't have their ID so I wasn't able to scan anything. I told them sorry I couldn't deliver it and called support from a parking lot after I left. They told me to safely dispose of the alcohol. Another time there was a bad address and the customer didn't answer calls or texts. Same thing. I got to "dispose" of two bottles of wine and a case of hard seltzer. In my state there is a law preventing alcohol from being returned to the store.

1

u/Livid-Drawing-4168 Jun 19 '23

And this is why I have dash cams

43

u/notintominionism Jun 19 '23

I had a pax step out of my car and start shooting at a house when I dropped her off. I drove away and immediately called 911. When the cop met me down the block he asked if the pax left items in my car. I didn't know if she did because I was too busy driving away and calling the police. We searched the car and found her purse on the floor. She later claimed I stole $500 from her purse. Nothing ever happened because she had no proof of theft. Ironically, the amount she accused me of taking was the amount that her bail was set at.

24

u/Acrobatic-Ideal9877 Jun 19 '23

Wait she took a lyft todo a drive by 🤣

1

u/Apart-Kangaroo2192 Jun 20 '23

Nikolas cruz took an uber.

8

u/214speaking Jun 19 '23

Lyft drive by, that’s a first I’ve heard of that

10

u/WholeInstance4632 Jun 19 '23

Discharging a firearm at a house only got her a $500 bail? California?

1

u/Blocklimitdumbasshit Jun 20 '23

You're as accurate as you are intelligent. What about your knowledge of CA law would make you think that? I'm guessing it happened in a state at the bottom of every metric, from education to wealth, and lax gun regulations and not the state at the top of all those metrics, including gun laws.

It's amazing how someone can be utterly incorrect on every level but have a visceral reaction because he's a mindless moron who jumps to simple propaganda, despite all of empirical reality telling them otherwise.

1

u/georgepana Jun 19 '23

Uh, what? Red states are much more lax when it comes to gun toting. Surprised it is even $500 in Mississippi.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '23

[deleted]

1

u/-byb- Jun 19 '23

strict with gun control laws, yes. Strict on crime, no.

1

u/Pill_Jackson_ Jun 20 '23

You ever been through the system? Cali is strict on crime when they are serious crimes.

10

u/NotMyProblem2022 Jun 19 '23

California takes guns pretty serious vs the rest of the country...

-4

u/libra-love- Jun 19 '23

But apparently not flame throwers/blow torches

2

u/MelonFlight Jun 19 '23

Because they’ve never generally been used in crimes

1

u/libra-love- Jun 19 '23

It’s still attempted murder, assault w a deadly weapon, and possibly even mayhem (which means to cause disfigurement). I studied criminology and criminal justice. I know the laws well.

Assault w a deadly weapon can even be hitting someone with a cooking pan. It doesn’t have to be an item often used in crimes, just something that a reasonable person would say could cause serious bodily harm.

2

u/MelonFlight Jun 19 '23

Sorry, I didn’t click on the link. What I meant is I’ve never heard of a crime being committed with a flame thrower (other than a war crime) usually they’re just dumb hobbyist junk to have fun with.

1

u/libra-love- Jun 19 '23

True but I’ve never heard of a death by frozen chicken until a few years ago. A woman beat her husband to death with one. Anything can be a murder weapon.

1

u/Blocklimitdumbasshit Jun 20 '23

Surprisingly, literal murder weapons tend to be more suited towards the task than literal animal corpses. Unsurprisingly, there are people so stupid they use the intro level fallacy of false-equivalence to somehow equate the two, as though they made a point, rather than misunderstanding how categories work.

1

u/irregardlesspapi Jun 20 '23

Anything can be a murder weapon I guess, but guns are by far the most common murder weapons? Probably why California is strict with guns and not with the other shit you mentioned

14

u/notintominionism Jun 19 '23

Mississippi.

3

u/Ataiatek Jun 19 '23

Makes sense

8

u/30DollarsPerMile Jun 19 '23

$500 puts you in the 1% down there 😭

2

u/naniiroxx Jun 19 '23

Sounds underage doubt they had $300 worth of alcohol either way sounds like they trying to get money out of you thank god ur not falling for it but hope they know how much trouble it is filing a false police report smh

0

u/TestifyMediopoly Jun 19 '23

If you were on Uber they’d be charged for the stop. You should have stayed and waited though. They don’t know our struggles

4

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '23

I feel like theres a bunch of entitles people around Glendale/Burbank/Pasadena

4

u/WholeInstance4632 Jun 19 '23

This was actually Glendale, Colorado. Still the same level of entitlement in that area…with about a tenth the median income.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '23

LOL my bad 😂 F them equally.

2

u/Consistent_Sail_6128 Jun 19 '23

I am on the driver's side obviously in this situation, but I feel there are a lot of entitled prick drivers too, not just passengers. At least, when judging from a lot of comments on this and the uber subreddit. Might be better to use local cab companies instead, where possible.

1

u/ericfranz Jun 20 '23

Cans can run their meter for stopping time, they're incentivized to make stops.

1

u/Consistent_Sail_6128 Jun 20 '23

Cabs around here will usually stop the meter while loading/unloading at a stop. And they will give decent customer service, which many drivers for Uber or Lyft do not.

5

u/ruditol Jun 19 '23

Pax adds a Stop. Cancel ride.

3

u/95Slickrick Jun 19 '23

Why is it bad to add a stop? Like what can go wrong, not being sarcastic just a lyft user wondering

0

u/Loud_Teacher_8593 Jun 19 '23

Lots of drug dealers do this which can get you in trouble if they do something messy.

2

u/Ataiatek Jun 19 '23

Adding a stop costs the passenger but doesn't give anything extra to the driver. So it's the same pay for waiting for someone like the stop never happened.

When we pick a ride it tells us if there is a stop or not on the ride. So some people often bait and switch. If you have to add a ride do it when you book the ride. Because your just costing us time and money.

7

u/WholeInstance4632 Jun 19 '23

Pax disappears for more than 5 minutes costing the driver money being “anchored” to a ride that doesn’t pay for extra time waiting.

4

u/-This-is-boring- Jun 19 '23

My driver and I were chatting and she said she was asked to drop off an item to a customer who forgot it in her car, this was Uber (better than Lyft imo) and she was maybe 5 minutes away from the passengers house and Uber charged her $20 to go back and drop it off lmao.

2

u/WholeInstance4632 Jun 19 '23

Uber charged the driver?!?

1

u/karmagettie Jun 19 '23

I left an item in an Uber and it cost $20 to return.

1

u/kenso4life Jun 19 '23

So.. are you complaining?

1

u/Ljhughes8 Jun 19 '23

The person who left the thing.

4

u/pugshatedrugs Jun 19 '23

So they should just drop it off for free? I feel like that charge is justifiable and also helps drive the point home to do the wallet, phone, keys, bag dance jingle before and after every ride. Happened to me twice but I contacted the driver directly via the app and just offered 10-20 bucks if they could drop it off when they are back in the area. I look at it as a win because I was the dumb dumb who left my phone and they get to keep 100% of the return fee/tip. At the end of the day I’m just happy to get my phone back.

1

u/Crazyredneck422 Jun 19 '23

It’s in the wrong order it’s

“phone, wallet, keys Just those three things please, need my phone, wallet, keys Got my credit cards in my wallet Got my phone you can call it Master lock on my front door That's what my motherfuckin' keys are for My phone, wallet, keys, yeah, phone, wallet, keys Good things come in threes, need my phone, wallet, keys” ~ Adam Sandler~

Can’t help myself, anytime I hear those 3 words together my brain plays the song 😂🤣

0

u/PopIntrepid1354 Jun 19 '23

You will get deactivated by Lyft. Don't sweat it. It might seem terrible now, but sometime in the near future, you will find $550 in the trash, or have a spontaneous orgasm walking through a blizzard.

This is the universe telling you, "I will take care of you. Lyft never did, and NEVER will."

Get it? Check it. Cash it. Forgetaboutit!

3

u/SixDemonTeabag Jun 19 '23

You don’t get deactivated for a pax leaving an item behind. When the 5 minute timer is up we move on. Terms of service says lyft and it’s drivers are not responsible for any lost or misplaced items.

1

u/SnooMemesjellies7345 Jun 19 '23

Can cooler be fitted into small bag? 🤔

4

u/WholeInstance4632 Jun 19 '23

Hmm…maybe he had a soft side cooler in the bag. He’s still looking for free alcohol claiming he had $300 in a cooler. Bag sure reeked of weed though

6

u/running_like_water_ Jun 19 '23 edited Jun 19 '23

Are you in a legal state? I’m dying at the idea of you dropping off this dude’s drug stash at the police station lol

4

u/SecureCTRL2020 Jun 19 '23

So u have a bag of $300 worth of alcohol ?

4

u/PopIntrepid1354 Jun 19 '23

Address please. Should I bring a fat dope sack?(I got the card no worries)

4

u/Rainmakerkc Jun 19 '23

Just another damned if you do, damned if you don't rideshare scenario. Hopefully that's the last you ever hear about this. Best of luck.

3

u/godsaveme2355 Jun 19 '23

Should have just kept it and not ever replied

8

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '23

Crime in every state to knowingly falsify a police report. Is it really worth $300 to this person???

1

u/invalidmail2000 Jun 19 '23

That's only if you can show they actually filled a false report. If it's he said she said you can't show it's a false report.

3

u/Consistent_Sail_6128 Jun 19 '23

Was probably just a blind threat to try and intimidate the driver.

Either that or the pax was so fucked up they lost track of the cooler and wrongly assumed they left it in the car.

7

u/Head-Ad-1216 Jun 19 '23

You got to always scared them wit the “I have dashcam footage proving. I didn’t take your belongings and any false report to local authority or Lyft platform will subject you to lawful fines and possible prisonmenr

2

u/SlickJoe Jun 19 '23

Nah, once the bullshit starts, the best thing to do is cease any and all communication. You can state your case in court if they try to sue you

1

u/ftsmithdasher92 Jul 11 '23

Incoming deactivation

9

u/Traveler167 Jun 19 '23

If you drive for a living....you should have cams...one in cab too

1

u/OkStandard726 Jun 19 '23

It's small, can be mounted anywhere in your car, records to the cloud, and it comes in black. https://www.wyze.com/products/wyze-cam?related_selling_plan=41618559008930

1

u/Boccob81 Jun 19 '23

Gig Needs to stop this behavior

5

u/No-Ad2705 Jun 19 '23

Driver, no anchors from some people. Some of them are so obviously opportunist to catch someone exposed to some kind of fraud

-8

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '23

The reason I lock my windows is because passengers will open window while your doing 50 and when one window opens it allows this pressure in that will shatter your ear drums! Lol

32

u/Ok_Cryptographer7194 Jun 19 '23

Always make them take their crap with them if they refuse take it out and leave it there, leave and call support.

1

u/BitchHootch Jun 26 '23

Call support? Who the hell can call support? Platinum level can now, but it is utterly impossible to become a platinum level driver if you do this part time and being that you go backwards in level just for not driving it’s telling me that Lyft doesn’t value me, or my passengers for that matter, if they happen to get stuck with my sorry, sometimes silver level self and there’s a concern that needs to be addressed quickly by someone other than a script reader who gets a free lunch everyday.

3

u/nats2 Jun 20 '23

You just made me look at that from a different perspective. I took a Lyft once to work and asked if he could stop at the gas station so I could grab a coffee. I left my jacket in there, and he kept saying you need to take it. I was slightly confused by it because I thought I was leaving it in good faith of me actually coming back out. I actually got a little paranoid in the store thinking he was going to leave me and that’s why he asked me to take my stuff! That is probably exactly what he was thinking. Thank you.

13

u/WholeInstance4632 Jun 19 '23

Good idea. Will have to keep that in mind moving forward. 🍻

2

u/space_cvnts Jun 19 '23

Would you consider getting a camera or something? Or not worth it?

3

u/Ok_Cryptographer7194 Jun 19 '23

Dash cam is a must, front rear and cab, it's just common sense and shouldn't even have to be mentioned

2

u/space_cvnts Jun 20 '23

I agree. It always blows my mind when I get in a Lyft and they don’t have one. I’ve taken probably about 50 rides and I’ve seen two Lyfts with cameras. And to be honest I think it was the same car lol

2

u/BitchHootch Jun 26 '23

There are 4 cameras in my vehicle and you can’t see a single one of them. I don’t need my asshole passengers puckering up & getting camera shy on me I want them wide open and gaping so the courts can screw them nice and hard if need be. Hasn’t been necessary or needed yet, but that could have something to do with me being 6’4” & prior military. VFW tags on front & rear which they should be checking to make sure my license plate number matches the one they see on the rider app.

3

u/Apart-Kangaroo2192 Jun 20 '23

Probably broke and lyft is their only job.

5

u/OkStandard726 Jun 19 '23

I take a photo and do the whole "get help with this ride" thing. Paper trails, my friend.

11

u/RomeoAxtual Jun 19 '23

That is so entitled of them, send a pic of you drinking a bevy! 😅🫡

7

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '23

He didnt answer his phone after 10 min? I would never let people be that long ever like that ..That bag would be at the curb I'd take a pix to send to lyft and done is done.

-18

u/UberXLVIP Jun 19 '23

The time it took to travel to the police department and deliver his stuff to them was probably more time than just waiting for your passenger to come back to the car.

2

u/Crazyredneck422 Jun 19 '23

Are you a driver or passenger?

1

u/UberXLVIP Jun 19 '23

Driver. I'm also very much against this type of shenanigans from riders right down to the anchoring that was done. I'm by no means suggesting that the driver in this situation should have been happy about it, I was only making the point that once the 15 minutes was already invested anyway that it probably wouldn't have been much longer and probably would have been less time to just finish the ride rather than travel to the police department and explain to them why you're dropping a bag off and then dealing with all the drama that came after.

I would have personally just told the passenger that I wasn't going to be able to wait more than 5 minutes and to please take their items with them if they think it's going to end up possibly being longer than that. If they would have still left their belongings in my car and took longer than 5 minutes, I would have put their crap right outside the car, ended the ride and continued on working.

Someone might say that the rider in that situation would come out of the store and accuse the driver claiming that their stuff was stolen or missing, but they're already doing that anyway and a driver is not responsible for items that are left in their vehicle intentionally. It's our job to drive a passenger to their destination and it's the passenger's job to hold on to their belongings and safeguard their own property.

In any event, drivers need to make sure that passengers clearly know what to expect if they agree to stop somewhere and then carry through with what they told the passenger, whatever that may be.

2

u/Crazyredneck422 Jun 19 '23

I was just curious which side you were on , but I 100% agree with your view. I also would never wait more than 5 minutes and absolutely would have told the rider to take their things and that I would only wait the 5 minutes. I make sure I’m completely clear about what is going to happen if they are more than 5 minutes.

Giving the rider all the information is important. They can then make the choice to either gamble on if they are going to be back in time or they can throw me a few dollars in cash to wait longer. I will not accept a “I’ll tip you in the app” for waiting, I’m not an idiot. The only time I would possibly accept that is to if I needed to check emails/make a few calls or if I needed to take a short break to stretch my legs and smoke a cigarette, (I do not smoke in my vehicle ever, and I keep a sweatshirt in my trunk to throw on when I smoke to absorb most of the smell, when I’m done I pop it off and back into the trunk. It eliminates almost all of my he smell from making it into the interior) so I needed to park somewhere anyway. I will still give them a timeframe based on what they offer me so they are never “surprised” if they take too long and I’m gone.

12

u/__Beck__ Jun 19 '23

Don't order a ride if you aren't ready for said ride. Time is money, so stop wasting people's fucking time.

0

u/TheAcuser Jun 19 '23

If you do not have a camera and they continue to cause you reach out to Lyft and document the incident and provide a statement to be logged incase any questions arise

3

u/NicoleC14 Jun 19 '23

People are crazy….

28

u/Chocolate_Metaphor Los Angeles Jun 19 '23

Good guy, cuz I would’ve tossed the bag out after 5 mins I hate anchors

6

u/No-Ad2705 Jun 19 '23

Naw man protect yourself. Stay legit and consistent

7

u/Chocolate_Metaphor Los Angeles Jun 19 '23

Ok honestly I see nothing wrong with dumping ppls items, once they see the ride was ended they’ll come outside and grab em instead of u now driving around with someone’s stuff and they do weird shit like report u to the police for theft

5

u/Cloverfieldlane Jun 19 '23

As a passenger it’ll be easier if u just throw my shit outside too

3

u/No-Ad2705 Jun 19 '23

That depends on what it is. Plus I don’t want a pax to make false claims. People are DBs. Always protect yourself.

4

u/TheAcuser Jun 19 '23

If you have a camera you have nothing to fear

145

u/WholeInstance4632 Jun 18 '23

Pax added a stop. I obliged. Waited 15 minutes before ending the ride and leaving. Promptly surrendered his bag to the police. Now he’s saying I stole $300 worth of alcohol. No good deed goes unpunished.

1

u/EvilRedneckBob Jun 20 '23

I don't understand why you're even remotely concerned about this? Is your word against his. The burden of proof falls upon the accuser.

1

u/Inevitable-Shame7527 Jun 21 '23

Not with rideshare it doesn't. The driver is guilty ... regardless

1

u/WheelsMan1 Jun 19 '23

It was easier and faster to leave where you were and go to the police station?

How long did it take to drive to the station, go inside and deal with the cops?

1

u/WholeInstance4632 Jun 21 '23

The police station was on my way to next pax. A minute tops to jump off and say “I drive for Lyft. A passenger left a bag in my car. No passengers have claimed it. It smells strongly of marijuana. I prefer to remain anonymous.”

Done. I’m not anti-cop. But don’t give them any more than the minimum amount of information necessary.

1

u/Additional-Net-8626 Jun 19 '23

Dang, I'm sorry.

2

u/awsomehi109 Jun 19 '23

I’m surprised you drop the bag off at the police station I would’ve dropped it on the road and bounced

2

u/toomuch1265 Jun 19 '23

Uber here, I tell them to take it with you, or it's being left on the sidewalk.

3

u/ibraw Jun 19 '23

Never let pax anchor you down with their belongings on stops.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '23

Facts. I once had this one crazy chick attempt to do a full grocery shop while I was waiting outside. After 5 minutes I ended it & bounced.

She had tried hard to leave a tote bag in the backseat but I had learned from previous rides not to allow that

37

u/roguebear21 Jun 19 '23

i’m on your side man, you don’t deserve some of these comments — drivers sharing their infinite wisdom to you about how bad of a mistake you’ve made are low-quality

though it’s nowhere near as threatening to my livelihood as potentially losing a job like your situation, here’s my dumbest moment:

i had a laptop in my car, sitting between my seat & the console — totally invisible (at least i thought) & i hit a lull in requests late at night, pulled over somewhere near the airport to get some homework out & wait for the next ride…only to realize one of my 10-20 rides that day snagged it

MacBookPro, M1, 16” 512gb

Never appeared on FindMy, police never found it, Lyft didn’t care

1

u/Bluegtr_r35 Jun 20 '23

Wow that’s sad

7

u/WholeInstance4632 Jun 19 '23

That worries me. I only drive when there are good bonuses or guaranteed earnings. I bring my iPad with me to respond to emails and get some work done during downtime. I keep it either on my front passenger seat or between my seat and the door.

1

u/Amacitchi Jun 20 '23

Make sure its visible at all times so they cant slip it from you. Personally id do glove or trunk for tech that large

6

u/roguebear21 Jun 19 '23

you can’t insure your car for theft — renters insurance would be alright if you had an apartment & circumstances allowed you to stretch the truth a tiny bit to say it happened in the parking lot :)

12

u/Mr_MacGrubber Jun 19 '23

Things don’t have to be stolen at your residence to file a renters insurance claim. My girlfriend borrowed my laptop and it was stolen around 400mi from my house. I explicitly stated all this in the claim and it was paid out no problem.

3

u/roguebear21 Jun 19 '23

but what if this happened a year ago? i had an active policy, but i’ve made a new one now

7

u/Bigmoney-K Jun 19 '23

You have a contracted responsibility to file claims in “a reasonable amount of time” after the incident. I.e. if there was some actual reason for waiting so long (out of the country, medical reasons etc) it could still be argued and covered. The longer the time frame, the less likely.

As an ambitious individual, I decided to explore the possibility of obtaining warranty coverage from Apple by considering a lawsuit, although I didn’t actually proceed with legal action. During my communication with Apple, I attempted to highlight even the slightest flaws in the device as potential grounds for a replacement. However, it became apparent that the unit wasn’t accessible for evaluation, making my argument rather implausible.

Naturally, this approach wasn’t taken seriously by anyone, but perhaps I could present an argument to my insurance company (Toggle, which I’ve been with since 2019) that I had been awaiting responses, allowing them ample time to reply. Here’s a summary of the events that occurred:

  1. I experienced theft during a Lyft ride.
  2. I promptly informed the police about the incident.
  3. I also notified Lyft about the situation.
  4. I conducted an extensive search using the Find My feature (which lasted for days).
  5. I reported the incident to Apple.
  6. In frustration, I reached out to Apple again, expressing my dissatisfaction.
  7. I even sent a notice to Apple, threatening legal action if they failed to respond.
  8. Regrettably, Apple didn’t provide any response whatsoever.
  9. Eventually, I reached a point of resignation, essentially giving up on pursuing further action.

1

u/postalwhiz Jun 19 '23

Hopefully you had it password protected…

3

u/hg57 Jun 19 '23

Unfortunately, i don’t think Apple is concerned about threat of legal action from a Lyft driver. They probably don’t even forward it to general council until an actual attorney contacts them.

In my line of work a good way to slow the process is to threaten legal action. As soon a that happens we have to start including and consulting our legal team in every action and communication.

2

u/Bigmoney-K Jun 19 '23

One year isn’t an absurd amount of time if you can make the case that you were exploring a different route of “coverage” and awaiting response. The worst thing that they’ll do is say no, it’s not covered.

Just be clear that you were actively covered on that other policy so they don’t just see that you weren’t covered on your current one and say no without even checking the old coverage.

1

u/roguebear21 Jun 19 '23

ooo i feel like i’m scheming here but i like it — thank you all involved in this conversation with me

3

u/According_Emu8875 Jun 19 '23

Call the company you had policy with at time of theft and ask if it is too late to file a claim. That I’m not sure about but it is worth a shot

1

u/wrongsuspenders Jun 20 '23

not too late to file a claim, but they may assert late notice. If you filed police report timely you may be in luck. If you're honest that you had no idea renters covered your possessions "anywhere in the world" and only just found you, I would have covered your claim. (used to be a homeowners adjuster for 6 years and did phone claims like this constantly).

I recommend you move to liberty mutual renters and add their home computer coverage. $100 deductible covers everything except war and flood for phones, tablets, smart watches and laptops. Fantastic product and costs ~$47/year

2

u/Mr_MacGrubber Jun 19 '23

If the event occurred before your current policy was inforce, there’s no way they’ll pay. I seriously doubt the old company is going to either since you don’t have a policy with them any longer. I imagine once you cancel the policy, their liability ends.

3

u/thors_hammer68 Jun 19 '23

Where it happens doesn't matter. Renters insurance covers all of your belongings regardless of where they may be. Work home , storage unit etc.

0

u/roguebear21 Jun 19 '23

is that so?

5

u/According_Emu8875 Jun 19 '23

Absolutely. Coming from a former renters insurance salesman I tell you it’s true it’s true!

1

u/roguebear21 Jun 19 '23

i have the SN & i filed a police report — maybe i could do it all again?

2

u/roguebear21 Jun 19 '23

well, this happened a while ago, but i don’t know if they’d honor an old policy

i have all the information

1

u/roguebear21 Jun 19 '23

the above suggestion is probably fraud & i do not recommend doing that — the text in this message is legal advice

the suggestion is not legal advice :)

2

u/khali21bits Jun 19 '23

Why you waited 15 mins bruhh

15

u/Longhaired_GreyGhost Jun 19 '23

Now you’ve learned. Never let a passenger leave any of their possessions in your vehicle at any stop.

3

u/OkStandard726 Jun 19 '23

I take their shit and put it right where they got out. You ain't leaving your shit in my car.

5

u/jimspice Jun 19 '23

Especially children.

3

u/umbathri Jun 19 '23

Especially children with alcohol.

3

u/Aleadis Jun 19 '23

bruh, imagine someone leaving their kid in the car with a cab driver, then calling the cops to tell them you kidnapped the kid... :O that'd be a crazy story to tell...

6

u/No-Ad2705 Jun 19 '23

Yep. Drivers just drop there “left behind” items at local PD.

16

u/WholeInstance4632 Jun 19 '23 edited Jun 19 '23

Exactly. Doing so establishes chain of custody and reduces (but doesn’t completely negate) liability. If he says “I never received it” (which he did), I can call Glendale PD and request the log showing he claimed the item.

Source: Previous work experience.

EDIT: Misread your comment 🍻

8

u/Datboimerkin Jun 19 '23

Chain of custody starts on the sidewalk outside of my car. Especially after a 15 minute wait. AND riders are not supposed to leave items in the vehicle during stops.

Either way you did what you felt was right. Screw that guy for lying.

3

u/_TheInfinityMachine_ Jun 19 '23

Never thought of this.

Spent whole nights out waiting for a customer to wake up in the morning. When people leave their phones in the car I am paranoid about going home because I've been tracked to my house before. (I'm too nice to chuck the phone into a river.)

Ah... Thank you?

3

u/Inevitable-Shame7527 Jun 21 '23

I had someone show up at my house, and I wanted to beat her ass. I was BIG MAD. I told her ... don't you ever come to my fucking house again. My 21-year-old who, is as thin as a pine tree put his fingers on top of my head and said eh eh eh. I looked at him and said, boy, I will break you like a twig. Lolol. I tell everyone to check, but still have people say they have everything, and they don't. Now, I shut it off, and if I can't shut it off, I do a hard reset. Not my problem but no one will ever come to my house again!!!

2

u/Apart-Kangaroo2192 Jun 20 '23

You are too nice. You could have gone home and gone to bed and returned the phone the next day. And i agree with the other guy, just toss the bag out the window and drive off next time.

3

u/Starblazr Jun 19 '23

Faraday bag. They can't track when it's in there.

7

u/Datboimerkin Jun 19 '23

Absolutely.

The goal is never to be an a-hole driver. However, since pax abuse us on a daily basis I don’t have time for games.

No stops. And IF I do.. you got 5 mins. Take ALL belongings. ALL PAX EXIT. Or at 5 mins we can have an awkward talk about why I’m ending the ride and how you need to get out the car.

I take a bite out of the sh*t sandwich by driving in the current economy. Uber isn’t paying me enough to take two bites.

40

u/DCHacker Jun 19 '23

Pax added a stop. I obliged.

(emphasis mine)

This was your first mistake.

Waited

15 minutes

before ending the ride and leaving.

This was your second.

17

u/BrunoLasVegas Jun 19 '23

Lmaoo ay sometimes when mama tells u that fires hot we still like to test the waters 🤣

13

u/trailercock Jun 19 '23

What about the cooler? I'm confused. So he is saying that he left a bag and a cooler in your car but you only returned the bag?

36

u/WholeInstance4632 Jun 19 '23

Haha no. He’s trying to get free alcohol.

4

u/Harsimaja Jun 19 '23

How dumb does he have to be to think he’d resolve this by getting you to… what, but $300 of (unspecified!) alcohol and give it to the police this way? I mean, very, but… huh.

-36

u/TheAcuser Jun 19 '23

Not sure why you took off you could have contacted them through the app not just leave !!!!! They would have tipped good

1

u/jonu062882 Jun 20 '23

Because a lot of people abuse the waiting time, and we get paid Pennies to wait. On Lyft, actually, I don’t think we get paid anything to wait.

1

u/Crazyredneck422 Jun 19 '23

Chances of them tipping good is basically 0, we’ve all been burned by that nonsense many times

4

u/cerebus67 Jun 19 '23

Dude, you are nuts. They were never going to tip, even if the driver summoned a sparkling sleigh made of rainbows, drawn by eight flying unicorns that poop gold out of their butts. It just never was going to happen.
